The Czech-born ace collected a whopping £16.8 million in prize money during his illustrious 16-year professional career.

That included 270 weeks as world number 1, winning eight Grand Slams, 94 titles and the Davis Cup before coaching Andy Murray to his three major victories.

Lendl put his enchanting 445-acre Connecticut estate on the market in early 2021.

And the tennis Hall of Famer handed over the keys to the new owners last Thursday after a $12 million (£9.5 million) sale.

As reported by CT Insiderwhich breaks the record for the most expensive home sold in Litchfield County.

The external path was built in 1992 for Lendl and his wife Samantha, who have five daughters, by architect Allan Greenberg.

It has no fewer than 20 rooms, including ten bedrooms with 15 bathrooms and the master bedroom has not one but two walk-in closets.

There are also a host of fireplaces, a library, a chef's eat-in kitchen, a butler's pantry, a wine cellar and even a trophy room in the gigantic three-storey stone property at the end of a huge long driveway.

Outside, the standout features keep coming: the swimming pool, pond, newly constructed tennis court, sauna and gym with changing rooms – plus an office above the two garages that can accommodate eight vehicles.

To top it all off, there is even a stable on the property with six stables overlooking the Connecticut hills.

And it's so big that the parcel actually spreads across the border into both the Goshen and Cornwall regions of the state.

Real estate agent Elyse Harney Morris said: “The Lendls [were] looking for the ideal location with a mix of open land that they could immediately enjoy, and woodland. I think they did a really good job finding this.

“It was truly a place where you could live, work and play in a very private environment in Litchfield County.

“Something like that is once in a lifetime.”

Incredibly, it was Paire's first ATP Tour win in 18 months – achieved after two hours and 39 minutes on court.

Paire eventually won 2-6 7-6 6-3 in Montpellier at the Open Sud de France, causing further grief for Murray.

And the partisan 'home' tennis crowd had no shame in mocking the former world number one against underdog Paire.

The unsavory scenes came early in the first set when a Paire serve saved a break point thanks to a Hawkeye challenge.

That left Murray frustrated and he complained to the referee, leading to a hostile reception from the French fans.

However, three-time Grand Slam champion Murray immediately got the break and raced into a 3-0 lead before winning the opening set 6-2 in 38 minutes.

Paire, who reached a career-high No. 18 in 2016, responded by breaking Murray in the opening game of the second set.

And after the Brit withdrew to make it 4-4, it went to a tie-break.

Murray won three straight points from 5-1 down and saved a set point to cut the score to 6-5.

But he lost the next point on his serve and Paire took the tie-break 7-5 to level the match and make it a decider.

After both players lost their serves early in the third, Paire made the decisive break to lead 5–3 and served it out, sealing an impressive victory.

The disappointing result means world number 49 Murray has now lost his last five matches and recorded just one win in ten.

Murray, who has said this year could be his last on tour if he “doesn't enjoy it”, lost in the opening round to Grigor Dimitrov in Brisbane and fell to Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets at the Australian Open.

At the end of 2023, he ended the season with painful three-set marathon defeats against Alex De Minaur in Paris and Etcheverry in Basel.

There was a great result for Katie Boulter, however, as she defeated No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini 6-2 6-2 in her opening match at the Linz Open in Austria.

  • Fans have criticized the champion for disrespecting the Australian
  • He Called Jordan Thompson ‘The Opponent’

Spanish champion Rafael Nadal has been accused of disrespect after refusing to say his opponent’s name following his defeat by Aussie Jordan Thompson on Friday night.

Thompson saved three match points before turning the tables and beating the returning Rafael Nadal in a late-night Brisbane International quarter-final classic.

The Australian won 5-7 7-6 (8-6) 6-3 in a Friday night battle that lasted three hours and 25 minutes and ended just before midnight.

The 37-year-old Nadal has not played tennis for a year and is hoping for a new rise at the Australian Open, where he won against all odds in 2022.

He was modest in defeat, saying he had his chances but had to accept there would be stumbles on the comeback trail.

“I have to accept all this stuff after a year, you know,” he said.

‘That’s normal, that things happen.

‘Every day is a different story and it’s difficult after such a long time.’

However, it was what Nadal said next that angered Australian fans.

The victory over Nadal was the biggest of Thompson’s career and took him to the semi-finals of the Brisbane International.

“Today the opponent played well,” he said.

‘I still had to play ball. I didn’t play badly, but I was just one ball away.’

Furious fans took to social media to criticize Nadal for forgetting or ignoring Thompson’s name during his media conference.

“Your ‘opponent’ Nadal was Jordan Thompson, in case you forgot his name,” one fan wrote.

‘The opponent?! That’s low,” another added.

“Does he know Jordan Thompson’s name? It seems clear he doesn’t. Calls him “the opponent” several times. He should do better… someone who is wrapped up in himself makes a very small package.”

Thompson came back from the edge in the second set before controlling the third and sealing the match when Nadal overshot his backhand to end the longest rally of the match.

Nadal, who took an injury timeout to treat pain in the same hip that required career-saving surgery last year, walked to Thompson’s side of the net and hugged the Australian.

“He was one of my idols growing up,” Thompson said.

‘I loved Lleyton (Hewitt), loved Andy Murray, loved Rafa.

“It was special to share the field again and to take him down was a completely different feeling.”

The 29-year-old Sydney talent’s victory capped a top week for the Australian men following Alex de Minaur’s defeat of world champion Novak Djokovic in the United Cup on Wednesday.

‘Unreal. Aussies in Australia playing good tennis and bringing down good names must be good for the country,” Thompson said.

Thompson’s job is to back up second seed and former world number 3 Grigor Dimitrov on Saturday night for a spot in Sunday’s final against top-seeded Dane Holger Rune or in-form Russian Roman Safiullin.

Thompson is ranked 55th in the world and will return to the top 50 and could move into the top 40 if he wins the tournament.

Nick Kyrgios revealed on Saturday that he never read late cricket legend Shane Warne’s scathing open letter to him in 2015, during a particularly difficult time in his career.

The tennis champion, 28, appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored and told the host, although he never read the letter on Facebook, that he was sure Warne’s view of him would have changed later.

‘I’ve seen it, but not read it. I will never be the first to put someone down on social media,” Kyrgios began.

The Canberra-born star added that he believed Warne would be “proud” to see how far Kyrgios had progressed in the intervening years.

“When I look back on that letter and how far I’ve come, I can say he would certainly be proud. I’ve had a pretty successful career. I feel like I’ve won a lot more than I’ve lost.”

In 2015, Warne posted an open letter to Kyrgios on social media, calling out the then hot-headed tennis player for his fiery behavior off the court.

“Dear Nick, we all realize you’re only 20 and have a lot to learn buddy, but please don’t waste your talent,” Warne wrote.

“Everyone in the world, especially us Australians, wants to respect you. You have to respect the game of tennis and yourself. We all make mistakes.

Warne also added a sting to the second half of the message, perhaps intended as a wake-up call for Kyrgios.

“You’re testing our patience buddy, show us what you’re made of and how hungry you are to be the best in the world. It’s time to step up and start winning, no excuses,” he said.

‘We all make mistakes. It is the way we learn from them and the way we behave when we lose that is a testament to our true character. You’re testing our patience, buddy,” Warne added sternly.

Kyrgios, then 20, enjoyed a stellar performance at Wimbledon in 2015, where he defeated Spanish champion Rafael Nadal, but also courted controversy after beating Swiss player Stan Wawrinka with a crude personal attack at a Canadian tournament.

Later, at a press conference shortly after the Wawrinka slide – in which he told his opponent between points that a fellow player had ‘hit’ his girlfriend – he admitted that he still had a lot to learn.

The incident, for which Kyrgios later apologized, had earned him a 28-day ban and a $34,705 fine from the ATP in his second year as a professional.

Fortunately, Kyrgios has since managed to get both his professional and personal lives back on track and is rumored to be planning to have children with his beautiful girlfriend Costeen Hatzi.

Nick Kyrgios has revealed that fans have privately asked him for help and sent shocking images of their own battles with depression and suicide after the Australian began his own battle last year.

Kyrgios revealed the depths of his depression and self-harm in the Netflix documentary Break Point. Now he has revealed the flow-on effects that emerged from those confessions on Piers Morgan uncensored.

Morgan praised Kyrgios for his courage in taking his own struggles into the public arena. The Australian star then revealed the impact that had, with desperate fans turning to his Instagram inbox looking for help and advice to get through their struggles.

“When I watch those clips you just played, I feel very emotional, but at the same time, inside I feel a lot better than before,” he said.

“I helped so many people after I started talking about it and setting up social media, and of course the Netflix documentary brought out a lot more of it.

‘I have almost been a beacon for people who are having a hard time.

“If they feel like they’re overwhelmed and they go to you, you know, drink and drugs and stuff.”

Kyrgios said people could see how he overcame the darkest period of his life and felt like he was relatable, sending him their own stories and asking for help.

“They open up and they feel like I’m relatable,” he said.

“People come to me with real problems and they send me pictures in my Instagram DMs of them, you know, harming themselves and genuinely wanting to kill themselves.

‘I sometimes have conversations with these people, you know, I’ve called these people.

Kyrgios also publicly thanked Andy Murray after supporting the Australian tennis star during a dark period when he contemplated suicide.

In a heartbreaking interview, Kyrgios revealed he endured two years of ‘complete damage’, waking up hating himself with a ‘pain addiction’.

The tennis star burned things on his arm and cut himself ‘for fun’, but Murray saw the signs of self-harm.

After seeing injuries to his arm, Murray alerted Kyrgios’ manager John Morris and gave him advice.

“Andy was always a big supporter of mine. As soon as I went on tour he was kind of a work in progress and took me under his wing,” Kyrgios told Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“Then later in my career he realized that I don’t think I was coachable or that I was on my own path, but he was always someone who looked out for me.

‘He saw it [the self-harm] and he said, “What is that on your arm?” At that stage it was pretty bad.

‘Andy tried to give me clear advice about it. But I was so stuck in my ways at that moment that I didn’t listen. Of course I am very grateful. I thank him very much.’

Kyrgios has previously spoken openly about his depression, saying he had “suicidal thoughts” during the 2020 Australian Open.

Last year he described the conflict of “literally struggling to get out of bed” but then “playing in front of millions” during that dark time.

In Netflix’s docuseries Break Point, he shared that he wore a compression sleeve in 2019 to cover the scars on his arm.

He added: “I think it was all total damage for a year and a half to two years. It was pretty dark to be honest.

‘I won tournaments on the professional tour, drank every night, injured myself, burned things on my arm and cut myself for fun.

‘It became an addiction to pain. I hated myself. I hated waking up and being Nick Kyrgios.

Wimbledon spectators were feeling the heat this afternoon, with some collapsing as temperatures soared to 30C ahead of a scorching weekend.

Tennis fans were carried away by ambulance crews while others were spotted fanning themselves as the grass baked on the fifth day of the tennis tournament in south-west London.

Other spectators sat on the floor in shaded areas to avoid the sun before Andy Murray arrived on court to continue his Centre Court match against Stefanos Tsitsipas this afternoon.

Elsewhere across the country, people have been flocking to parks and beaches to soak up the warm weather with temperatures in some areas expected to enter into the high 20s.

People have been pictured enjoying barbeques in the hot sun at Lincoln’s Inn Fields and Wimbledon Common in London, while others relaxed on the beach in the hot weather in Ruislip Lido and Cleethorpes.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Harris warned of the high temperatures earlier on today, saying: ‘Temperatures will be on the rise from Friday, with a plume of continental air allowing temperatures to reach, and perhaps locally exceed 30C in parts of England on Friday and Saturday.

‘In addition, temperatures overnight will remain high, especially in towns and cities, which will make for an uncomfortably warm night for some.’

Soaring temperatures come off the back of rainfall earlier on in the week. All play stopped on outside courts on Wednesday after a grey afternoon of downpours.

The Referee’s Office announced 69 matches were cancelled over the afternoon. Returning spectators were told they would get another chance to watch them.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) confirmed that tickets bought for Courts Two and Three as well as grounds passes bought before 5pm would receive a full refund after the downpours disrupted the first three days of play.

The Met Office said it will be another warm day on Saturday, but warned there may be thunderstorms across some areas, especially in north and east.

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said in a forecast today that not everywhere will see thunderstorms but those places that do will experience intense and frequent lightning and hail.

However, temperatures in London and other areas in the east and south east of England are expected to hit between 26C and 27C.

Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA, said yesterday: ‘This weekend it’s important that everyone takes sensible precautions while enjoying the sun.

‘The forecasted high temperatures are expected to be short-lived but could primarily impact those over the age of 65 or those with pre-existing health conditions.

‘If you have friends, family or neighbours who are more vulnerable, it is important to check in on them and ensure they are aware of the forecasts and are following the necessary advice.’

Despite the baking temperatures, it was another busy day at Wimbledon as Katie Boulter watched her Aussie boyfriend Alex de Minaur lose at Wimbledon today ahead of a Fantastic Friday for British players.

McGivern said: ‘We’ve got the heat intensifying across eastern parts of England especially East Anglia where somewhere could get up to 30C to 32C depending on how much cloud we see moving in or depending on some shower developments in the afternoon.’

On Sunday the weather is expected to be ‘fresher’, with ‘a risk of heavy showers and perhaps the odd rumble of thunder’, according to the Met Office.

The British women’s number one was seen cheering from the stands on Court 18, where De Minaur was up against Italy’s Matteo Berrettini. He went on to lose in three sets after a hard-fought contest.

Boulter, 26, who dispatched Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova in the singles yesterday, is playing with her 24-year-old partner later this afternoon in the mixed doubles.

Belarussian player Aryna Sabalenka was also seen struggling with the heat, holding an ice pack over her head and hiding from the sun under a towel as the heat beat down onto the courts.

Meanwhile, Andy Murray will be looking to finish the job against Greek fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas after their dramatic match was adjourned late yesterday.

British number one Cameron Norrie is second on Court One while Liam Broady – who yesterday pulled off a dramatic upset by beating fourth seed Casper Ruud – is third on Court 2.

In the men’s doubles, British world number six Joe Salisbury and his American partner Rajeev Ram will do battle just after 4pm.

Murray was two sets to one up when play was halted at around 10.40pm yesterday, and all eyes will be on how the Brit pulls up after the injury scare he suffered in the penultimate point.

On set point, the 36-year-old went down screaming when trying to change direction before picking himself up and delivering an unreturnable serve that put him 2-1 up.

The match referee then decided it was too late to start a fourth set, meaning Murray and Tsitsipas must return on Friday afternoon to finish with the Scot leading 6-7 (3) 7-6 (2) 6-4.

Carlos Alcaraz, who felt sidelined when he could not play on Centre Court in front of Roger Federer on Tuesday, will open play today against Alexandre Muller before Murray returns to finish his match.

Then women’s top seed Iga Swiatek will play Petra Martic before the headline act between Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka closes a thrilling day’s action.

One of the big rivalries of the last 15 years is reignited on Centre Court as defending champion Djokovic faces Wawrinka in the third round.

The pair have fought it out on the biggest stage over the years with two of Wawrinka’s three grand slam titles coming after beating Djokovic in the final, most memorably in a stunning performance at the French Open in 2015.

But injury has taken its toll on the Swiss in recent years and he is no longer competing at the same level as Djokovic, who has almost got better with age.

Wawrinka has given himself ‘zero’ chance of winning Wimbledon but he will have plenty of support on Centre Court as he eyes a huge upset.

As Kim Murray cheered on her husband Andy on Center Court last night in a dramatic three-hour battle that has yet to be decided, many eyes were also on the glamorous mum as she stunned in a vibrantly patterned dress with signature honey locks.

Mum-of-four Kim, 35, introduced a new 1970s-inspired haircut at Wimbledon 2023 as she sat down to watch her husband, a two-time men’s champion, compete.

The painter, who has become known for her stunning locks, was animated as she watched her husband come back from a narrow first set defeat to draw with Stefanos Tsitsipas before the match was called off as it broke the 11pm curfew of reached the All England Club.

According to an expert, the haircut signals a new image for Andy’s childhood sweetheart as she ups the ante on style during SW19.

Fabian Martinez, a hair stylist and trichologist at The London Hair Clinic, has revealed how Kim got her stunning look – and why her new cut is the hot style of the summer.

Kim Murray, 35, looked sensational as she cheered on husband Andy on Center Court at Wimbledon last night, showing off her enviable locks

Watching her husband duke it out in court against Greece’s Tsitsipas, Kim looked sensational in a £695 pink floral Zimmerman dress paired with an Aspinal of London bag.

Speaking to FEMAIL, Fabian explained that Kim’s latest retro look is known as a “butterfly cut” with lots of layers — and much of the volume she achieves in her locks is due to having enviable genes.

“Kim has naturally thick hair,” Fabian said, adding that she probably lengthened her locks with a bouncy hair dryer.

“There are some lighter shades from the roots, which would suggest that she also has some extension to give extra thickness and volume to enhance the look.

The mother of four has introduced a “butterfly cut” at this year’s tournament, which is achieved by cutting many layers

‘The hair is blow-dried with volumizing products and with a large round brush to give root lift.

“This is called the brushing technique, where blow-drying is done from the root and the brush is let in while the hair cools before another section is done.”

Fabian described Kim’s new look, the butterfly haircut, as “a long bob where you bring all the hair forward and cut it in thick layers.”

He added, “This is very fashionable right now, especially on TikTok.

“The length is super flattering for most ages, especially Kim, but it’s also a style that suits most face shapes.” It’s a great cut for summer and low maintenance if you have thick hair.”

He described Kim’s look as “on trend” and said it was a “sophisticated and classy” style that complements her chic outfits.

“The length isn’t too long, which really shows off the layering of the butterfly, and while it’s clearly blow-dried, it also looks very natural and effortless,” said Fabian.

“Kim was 100% cutting edge on style, while other A-listers were still wearing super-long hair extensions that look a bit dated and overly groomed for Wimbledon.

“Kim is supportive of her husband and doesn’t want to look too distracting, but has perfectly captured the effortless and stylish Wimbledon glamour.”

Kim and Andy have been together since 2005 and first got together when she was 17 and he was 18.

They are now happily married with four children: Sophia, seven, Edie, five, Teddie, three, and a two-year-old thought to be named Lola.

Stafanos Tsitsipas’ girlfriend, Paula Badosa, was on Thursday night for her partner’s epic match with Andy Murray, but eagle-eyed fans caught her not being overly impressed with his father and coach Apostolos during the clash.

The Greek fifth seed was three sets in an undermining fight with Murray under the center court lights before play was paused before the 11pm curfew, with the former rivals returning to action for the fourth set on Friday.

Having lost the first set tie-break, the two-time former champion had fought back by taking the second and third sets to lead 2–1, recovering from a late injury just before the match was halted.

As her partner struggled to hold back Murray’s comeback attack, Badosa was seen angrily looking at the back of Apostolos’ head after the 55-year-old turned to check her out between points.

But instead of just glancing back at her boyfriend’s long-time coach, the Spanish star glared at him for a few seconds, seemingly unimpressed by Tsitsipas’ father.

Seeing the footage, one fan commented, “She’s known Stefanos for two minutes and already had it with his dad!”

And another added, “Not Paula giving my man Apo (Apostolos) the side eye,” followed by a crying emoji.

Badosa – expected on Court 18 for her own second round clash with Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk on Friday morning – has already made headlines at this year’s championships after revealing a sex dream she had about Tsitsipas.

The pair have been publicly dating since the French Open, but Badosa offered the unsolicited story of how she had a spicy dream about the Greek tennis star in Australia earlier this year.

“Yeah, well, I got injured in Australia. I watched his match, the final. Of course I was jet lagged because I was in Spain. I decided to watch that match,” she told a press conference at Wimbledon earlier this week.

‘Surprising, because I never dream about tennis players, but I dreamed about him that night, that we both won the Australian Open.

“Then it was like we had a very romantic moment, but I’m not going to explain it. I’ll just leave it at that,” which was greeted with laughter from those in attendance for the unexpected insight into her personal life.

They’ve only been public about their relationship for a few months, with the 25-year-old being present during the No. 5 ranked men’s player matches at the French Open in May.

Nevertheless, the pair appear to be very close already, with Tsitsipas referring to Badosa as his ‘soul mate’ when talking to the BBC as part of their coverage of the tournament.

“I feel happy and satisfied,” Tsitsipas recently told Eurosport.

“I’ve never felt such a connection to anyone. I don’t want to cringe or sound like that because that’s the reality and that’s what I’m dealing with.

“I am extremely blessed and happy that this has come to this stage of my life.

“I get to do what I love and I get to do it with someone who understands and understands me completely. I am very interested in her mind more than anything.

“Of course there’s attraction, but sometimes it’s also just a soul interaction and falling in love with her spirit.” It’s very rare for these things to happen.’

The pair also have an Instagram account together – tsitsidosa – and share a number of photos from their travels.

The pair will share the field in the mixed doubles competition, hoping perhaps their shared chemistry will pay off on the grass.

The pair first met in 2020 and have been together ever since, but this will be the first time they will take to the field together in doubles competition.

Boulter has made a good start in the main draw and has safely progressed to the third round, where she will meet reigning champion Elene Rybakina, after victories over Daria Saville and Viktoriya Tomova.

Andy Murray reveals why he invited Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe to Wimbledon – after she admitted to him that she ‘missed jail sometimes’ in an interview with Radio 4

Andy Murray revealed he invited Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe to Wimbledon yesterday as she said watching his 2016 title win had given her ‘joy’ in prison.

After yesterday’s match, the 36-year-old said he asked her to watch his first-round match against Ryan Peniston, whom he beat in straight sets, because he wanted to “invite her to come along and to the tennis to watch in a totally different game’. circumstances’.

The mother of a Zaghari-Ratcliffe, 45, who was wrongfully imprisoned for six years in Tehran’s Evin Prison, sat behind the Princess of Wales and Roger Federer in Center Court’s Royal Box on Tuesday.

Murray said, “I’m glad she was able to make it.”

Andy Murray revealed he invited Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe to Wimbledon yesterday as she said watching his 2016 title win had given her ‘joy’ in prison

The British-Iranian national, who was released in March 2022, had previously spoken to the tennis champion while guest editing an episode of BBC Radio 4’s Today Show.

During their conversation, Zaghari-Ratcliffe revealed that the tennis player’s Wimbledon win in 2016 helped her bond with other inmates.

Two months after her sentence in July 2016, Zaghari-Ratcliffe says guards gave her access to two TV channels — one that happened to be showing his matches.

In last year’s interview, she also told the tennis star that she “sometimes misses” the prison environment and the friends she made during the six years she was imprisoned in Iran.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe – who worked as a project manager for the Thomson Reuters Foundation – also said she made friends with inmates while cooking and doing crafts.

“When I came out, there were times when I felt like I really missed my friends and prison,” she explains.

“It’s a very strange thing to say. I don’t know if people can really say you miss prison, but I sometimes think I miss the environment and my friendships in prison.’

Zaghari-Ratcliffe was then two months into her sentence and had been placed in solitary confinement after being charged with conspiracy to overthrow the Iranian government.

With no access to newspapers or books, Zaghari-Ratcliffe explained how she had a choice between one channel exclusively broadcasting Iranian soap operas or another showing Wimbledon matches.

From her cell in Evin, Zaghari-Ratcliffe watched Murray claim the Wimbledon title for the second time – three years after his first win – against Milos Raonic.

“I was always a big fan of yours, but there too I was in solitary confinement watching the game you ended up winning,”

Nazanin told Andy, “I can’t tell you how happy it was and I was ecstatic to see you win.”
