This is because shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square meters must close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day, according to government rules.

Sunday trading laws stipulate that shops that choose to remain open may only do so for six consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm.

Tesco stores in Scotland are open on Sundays from 8am to 8pm.

The supermarket chain has also announced that many of its major stores will also have shorter opening hours on Easter Monday, at 8pm.

Most Tesco Express stores will remain open on Sunday, with all stores returning to normal opening hours on Monday.

On Good Friday many of the shops are open as normal, but those that are normally open late close earlier at 10pm.

These are not guaranteed opening hours and vary depending on the store.

Shoppers are therefore advised to check the opening times of their local store on the Tesco store locator.

You can find the locator by typing ‘Tesco store locator’ into Google.

Then enter your city or zip code and the nearest store will be displayed.

M&S launches new ‘cute’ Easter treat in Colin the Caterpillar style and shoppers are going wild

It is also the best place to check petrol station opening times as these may differ from the main store opening hours.

Tesco has over 800 stores nationwide, consisting of regular supermarkets, Extra stores and Express stores.

OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Meanwhile, several other supermarkets have already confirmed what their opening hours will be during the Easter holidays.

Aldi said its stores in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday.

However, they are open on Good Friday and Easter Saturday from 8am to 10pm.

The shops are also open on Easter Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

You can check the opening times of your local store at www.stores.aldi.co.uk/store-finder.

Asda has also adjusted its opening hours over the Easter weekend, but depending on location, your local store opening hours may differ.

On Good Friday and Easter Saturday the shops are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

All shops are closed on Easter Sunday, but open on Easter Monday from 6am to 10pm.

You can check the opening times of your local store at www.storelocator.asda.com.

Lidl supermarkets are open on Good Friday, but completely closed on Easter Sunday.

On Easter Friday, Saturday and Monday the shops are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

You can check the opening times of your local store at www.lidl.co.uk/c/store-finder/s10023098.

Morrisons has special opening hours during the Easter weekend.

The shops are open from 7am to 10pm on Good Friday and open normally on Easter Saturday.

However, all shops are closed on Easter Sunday.

On Easter Monday the shops are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

You can check the opening hours of your local store at www.my.morrisons.com/storefinder/.

Sainsbury’s has special opening hours during the Easter weekend.

The shops are open on Good Friday from 8am to 10pm and on Easter Saturday from 8am to 9pm.

However, all shops are closed on Easter Sunday.

On Easter Monday the shops are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

You can check the opening times of your local store at www.stores.sainsburys.co.uk.

SHOPPERS are rushing to buy Surf detergent from a major retailer claiming “you’ll never get it this cheap again”.

Asda has cut the price of Tropical Lily concentrated laundry detergent by 50%, from £3.50 to £1.75.

1

Asda has slashed the price of its Tropical Lily laundry detergent to £1.75

The retailer is selling it online and it appears it’s in stores too, although it’s not clear if it’s available in all stores.

It might be worth calling your local Asda branch to see if they have anything in stock for £1.75.

You won’t find it cheaper anywhere else anyway, at the next cheapest retailer, Tesco, which sells it for £2.95 to Clubcard customers.

After that it’s Waitrose selling it for £3.25, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s for £3.50 and then Iceland for £6.

Eagle-eyed shoppers have already started noticing the reduced detergent on Asda shelves, with customer numbers reportedly limited to three each.

Post to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK groupsaid one shopper: “Asda has bottles of Surf detergent for £1.75 in Tropical Lilly.

“Ren, you’ll never get it this cheap again.”

The Facebook post has racked up more than 80 likes and received dozens of comments from shoppers eager to get their hands on the affordable detergent.

One said: “I have a few because it’s my favourite”, while another noted the “ridiculous” price and a third said it “smells so good”.

One customer said they weren’t thrilled with the detergent, but another customer quickly responded with “at that price, who cares.”

From Campbell’s soup to Caramac and Lilt: the iconic foods that are disappearing from supermarket shelves

Of course, don’t forget to always shop around when you buy something like this, because you might find it cheaper elsewhere.

For example, on websites such as Trolley and Price Spy you can compare prices of thousands of products.

Please note that both websites rely on the retailer’s online prices, which may differ from in-store prices.

It’s not the first time in recent months that shoppers have panicked after spotting a bargain on the shelves.

How to save on your supermarket shopping

There are plenty of ways to save money at your grocery store.

You can look for yellow or red stickers on products, which indicate when they are discounted.

If the food is fresh, eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.

Making a list should also save you money because you’ll be less likely to make hasty purchases when you go to the grocery store.

Choosing your own brand can be an easy way to save hundreds of dollars a year on your food bill, too.

This means ditching the ‘best’ or ‘luxury’ products and instead opting for ‘own’ or value-for-money lines.

Many supermarkets have shaky fruit and vegetable programs where you can get cheap prices if they are misshapen or imperfect.

For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering 5kg boxes of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.

If you’re on a low income and a parent, you could potentially get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers, which you can also use at the supermarket.

In addition, many municipalities offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.

Last month a B&M shopper found the ‘bargain of the year’ after spotting giant boxes of Easy washing powder for £1.40 each.

Tesco Clubcard shoppers also bought five packs of Cadbury Creme eggs on offer for £1.50, the cheapest we found them for.

Meanwhile, B&M customers were excited after seeing a new Cadbury Twirl flavor on shelves earlier this week for just 29p.

How to save money at Asda

Asda superfan Eilish Stout-Cairns previously shared with The Sun five money-saving tips you can use on your next trip.

Firstly, she said, it’s worth buying Asda’s budget Just Essentials range, which can save you hundreds of pounds a year.

You don’t just have to apply this tip in Asda either: ‘downshifting’, as Martin Lewis calls it, can save you money in all major supermarkets.

Asda shoppers should also sign up to the retailer’s Rewards programme, which rewards you with “pounds” when you spend in-store or online.

You can also get up to 10% cashback on so-called “Star Products”, which change regularly and are highlighted to you in the app.

In other Asda news, the retailer is opening hundreds of convenience stores across the UK as part of massive expansion plans.

Additionally, in January it unveiled 82 cashless locations, which was a blow to shoppers.

“No idea if they have more copies of any of the games in the back as the stands were pretty much full with little room for more,” the player wrote on HotUKDeals.

“Clearance Games stand is next to the normal games department with various offers…”

The cheapest of the bunch was Halo Infinite on Xbox Series X for just £2.50.

“Halo at £2.50 is a bargain,” another user commented.

If you buy the title now from other retailers it will cost over £35.

Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is also cheap at £8.50 on Xbox – compared to around £15 elsewhere.

Meanwhile, PS5 owners can buy Star Wars: Jedi Survivor for £15, saving £10 over other stores currently selling the game.

One bargain hunter said: “I got Jedi: Survivor on Sunday for £25, that’s a steal from Asda.”

There’s also F1 23 which costs £11, down from £20.

And there were also some Nintendo Switch games included.

  • Riders Republic (Xbox One/Series
  • Halo Infinite (Xbox One/Series

Don’t forget that some PS4 games can be upgraded to PS5 for free via a simple download.

SHOPPERS are rushing to buy Cadbury Creme Eggs from a major supermarket after it slashed the price to the cheapest available.

Tesco Clubcard customers can buy the five-pack of mini eggs for £1.50, while non-Clubcard customers pay £2.50.

1

One retailer is selling cheap Cadbury Creme Eggs this weekend

The Clubcard program offers customers points when purchasing products or fuel, which they can redeem for cash at future stores.

Shoppers online who spotted the Tesco deal can’t wait to grab some Easter eggs.

One, tagging a Facebook friend, simply said “go, go, go”, while another said they wanted to buy something “as soon as possible”.

Another said “need to stock up” while a fourth joked “I know where I’m going”.

The next cheapest option after Tesco is Aldi, which sells the multi-pack in store for £1.99, and then Morrisons, where it costs £2.25 online.

Asda is selling the five-pack for £2.50, while Sainsbury’s also has it for £2.50, if you have a Nectar Card.

Of course, keep in mind that if you want to buy the Creme Eggs from Tesco, you will have to pay a delivery charge.

It’s not clear whether the supermarket chain is also selling the five-pack in store, so it might be worth calling your local branch to find out.

You can find your nearest Tesco store using the store locator on the website.

And of course, always remember to shop around because you might find a better deal elsewhere.

Shopping Discounts – How to Save and Find the Best Bargains

Product prices can fluctuate as retailers put them on sale and sometimes prices in store can be different than online.

Retailers are likely to increase their offers this weekend and next week as Easter approaches.

To find out how much an item costs at different online retailers, you can use price comparison websites such as Trolley and Price Runner.

They both use databases with thousands of products on sale.

Iconic chocolates that have left the store shelves

Cadbury’s Dream chocolate bar: The popular bar closed in 2002, but was relaunched in 2019 under the new name ‘Cadbury White’.

Mars Delight bar: Although it proved to be a firm favorite among sweet-tooth fans during its four-year run in stores from 2004, it was pulled from shelves in 2008. Fans are still eager to see the treat return.

Nestlé’s Caramac chocolate bar: The unique bar had been in stores for more than sixty years, but was discontinued last year due to continued sales declines.

Milky way crispy rolls: They were pulled from shelves in 2022 and fans were so distraught by the news that a petition was started to bring them back, which currently has over 8,500 signatures.

White Maltese: The white chocolate version of the popular snack had a strong run of eleven years, but due to declining sales it was discontinued in 2014.

It’s not the first time in recent days and weeks that shoppers have been confused by Easter egg-themed chocolates on the shelves.

Asda shoppers couldn’t get enough of Cadbury Oreo mini eggs earlier this week, which were on sale for £2.25.

The chain started stocking the sweet snacks in January, but some customers only just spotted them on the shelves.

Meanwhile, B&M customers were excited after seeing a new Cadbury Twirl flavor on shelves earlier this week for just 29p.

The limited edition mint-flavored bar normally sells for 75 cents each, but has been flogged at a hugely reduced rate.

Shoppers could pick up four of the bars for £1, 25p each.

Cadbury has recently launched two new and ‘indulgent’ Dairy Milk flavours, also for chocolate lovers.

The nutty praline chip and caramel nut crunch flavors were both unveiled on Monday (March 18).

Cadbury fans also rushed to Amazon’s website this weekend to buy giant boxes of Creme Eggs for just over £21.

Chocolate fans have also found themselves in crisis in recent months after a number of popular products were withdrawn from the market.

Last November, Nestle shut down its iconic Caramac bar after 60 years, with fans calling the move a “mockery.”

The chocolatier said it had discontinued the bar after a decline in sales.

Last month it discontinued both Breakaway and Yorkie cookie bars after a decline in sales.

The bargain deal was posted on the HotUK Deals website, which said the supermarket is selling 77g bags of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Mini Eggs at the best price.

Under the Easter deals section, the website stated that the same bag is being sold for up to £1.50 in other leading supermarkets.

With Easter just around the corner, supermarkets are competing against each other to hand out the best offers.

But Heron Foods seems to be leading the way as it offers the cheapest price for the sweet treats.

It comes as sweet-loving Brits are being hit by shrinking sizes and rising prices when picking up their Easter treats this year.

Several popular Easter eggs from brands such as Maltesers, Lindt and Cadbury now cost at least 50% more than a year ago.

The overall price of chocolate has risen by 12.6% in a year, compared to a 5.6% increase for food and drink in supermarkets generally. Which? has found.

It comes after dry weather in West Africa led to a spike in global cocoa prices.

In the steepest example of inflation: Which? found that a 286g Maltesers Truffles Luxury Easter Egg at Waitrose rose from £8 to £13 in the month to the end of February, compared to the same time a year ago – an increase of 62.5%.

At Asda, a five-pack of 50g Lindt Gold Bunny Milk Chocolate rose from an average of £2 to £3.11 – an increase of 55.6%.

At Tesco, the price of a 250g Ferrero Rocher Golden Easter Egg rose on average from £10 to £15 – an increase of 50%.

Which? also found that at Ocado a 1kg Cadbury Mini Eggs Large Pouch cost an average of £8.86 last February but is now £12.95 this year, an increase of 46.2%.

At Sainsbury’s, the price of a Kinder Easter with Surprise 36g rose from an average of £1.50 to £2, or an increase of 33.3%.

All prices were averages in the one month to the end of February 2023, compared to the same period this year.

Complete examples of Easter egg changes

BELOW are the results of the Which? tracker.

Price increases between February 2023 and February 2024:

  • Maltesers Truffles Luxury Easter Egg 286g – from £8 to £13 at Waitrose
  • Lindt 5 Gold Bunny Milk Chocolate 50g – from £2 to £3.11 at Asda

As well as price increases, the consumer champion also found examples of “shrinkflation” with a large Mars milk chocolate Easter egg falling from 252 grams last year to 201 grams in February at Morrisons and Tesco.

Similarly, a Terry’s chocolate orange Easter egg and mini eggs shrank from 230 grams last year to 200 grams this year at Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco, while a Smarties chocolate orange egg fell from 226 grams to 188 grams at Asda and Tesco.

While shoppers may think that downsizing is a sneaky tactic, there are no rules against it as long as the package is labeled with the correct size, weight and ingredients.

Which? retail editor Ele Clark said: “Easter eggs are a non-negotiable highlight of spring for many of us, but which ones? has discovered that paying for your chocolate haul will be trickier this year.

“To ensure you get the best value for your Easter chocolate, shop around and compare price per gram across different pack sizes, retailers and brands.”

All supermarkets and manufacturers of Mars, Smarties, Terrys and Twix have been contacted for comment.

Waitrose said: “We work incredibly hard to keep prices low and also have a wide range of special offers to help customers save even more.”

It added that eggs in the tracker are now actually cheaper – with Maltesers egg setters getting £8.50 back instead of £13.

  • Ferrero Rocher Golden Easter Egg 250g – from £10 to £15 at Tesco
  • Cadbury Mini eggs, large bag 1kg – from €8.86 to €12.96 at Ocado
  • Kinder Easter with Surprise 36g – from £1.50 to £2 at Sainsbury’s

Examples of shrinking packaging between 2023 and 2024:

  • Mars milk chocolate large Easter egg – dropped from 252g to 201g at Morrisons and Asda
  • Terry’s chocolate orange Easter egg and mini eggs – dropped from 230g to 200g at Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco
  • Smarties chocolate orange egg – down from 226g to 188g at Asda and Tesco
  • Twix milk chocolate Easter egg – dropped from 246g to 200g at Tesco

A spokesperson for Mars Wrigley UK, which makes Mars, Maltesers and Twix, said the price increases are due to rising costs of raw materials and operations.

They added: “Reducing the size of some of our products and increasing prices is not a decision we have made lightly, but it is necessary for shoppers to still be able to enjoy their favorite Easter eggs without to make concessions on quality or taste.”

While Nestle, maker of Smarties, said: “Like any manufacturer, we have experienced significant cost increases, making our products much more expensive to manufacture.

“We have been working to be more efficient and absorb rising costs where possible.

“However, to maintain the same high quality and delicious taste that consumers know and love, it has sometimes been necessary to adjust the weight of some of our products.”

How can I save on my supermarket shopping?

Sainsbury’s is to cut the cost of vegetables including potatoes and carrots, just in time for your Easter lunch.

Prices start from just 15 cents, meaning you can save your money on chocolate eggs and treats.

It’s important to note that customers must sign up for the supermarket’s loyalty programs to take advantage of the deals.

But the good news is that you can sign up for the program for free via the Sainsbury’s website.

The offers begin next one so you don’t have to worry about running out of vegetables before the big day.

Shoppers have taken to social media after spotting some deals.

The enthusiastic shopper said: “From Wednesday 27, carrots 1kg and white potatoes 2kg will cost 15p each at Sainsbury’s, and broccoli will cost 22p with a nectar card.”

The post received dozens of comments from enthusiastic Facebook users.

One simply said “ooh lovely”, while a second called the prices “amazing”.

Another wrote: “That’s good!”

While a fourth said: “Ooh, that would be good for my shopping next week.”

I’ve tried Lindt bunny dupes from major retailers – I could eat a really great value version in one sitting and it’s half the price

Sainsbury’s has outlined each of the discounts, which will be available from March 27 to 31.

Here is the full list of offers:

  • of Sainsbury’s Carrots (1kg) – 15p with nectar (65p without nectar)
  • by Sainsbury’s Parsnips (500g) – 15pcs with nectar (£1.30/kg without nectar)
  • of Sainsbury’s White Potatoes (2kg) – 15pcs with nectar (£1.29 without nectar)
  • from Sainsbury’s Swede – 15p with nectar (62p without nectar)
  • of Sainsbury’s Savoy Cabbage – 15p with nectar (69p without nectar)

The full return will cost you just 75p if you have a Nectar card, while without a Nectar card you would spend £3.90.

That’s a huge saving of €3.15.

Each of the offers will be available online and in-store. You can find your nearest Sainsbury’s branch using the supermarket locator on the website.

What do other supermarkets offer?

The run-up to Easter is the best time to bag some bargain vegetables.

We’ve reached out to all the major supermarkets to see what deals they have in store in the coming weeks.

A number of major chains such as Morrisons and Asda will unveil theirs later this week.

Discount supermarket Lidl has confirmed it is offering:

  • Carrots (1kg) – 19 pcs
  • Swede (per piece) – 19p
  • White Potatoes (2kg) – 19 pcs
  • Spring onions (per bunch) – 19p
  • Green beans (220g) – 19 pcs
  • Shallots (300g) – 19 pcs

Collecting the entire range costs €1.14.

However, as we get closer to Easter Sunday, expect to see even more deals announced.

For example, last year before Christmas a price war broke out between the supermarket giants, with the majority offering deals from 15p.

However, most offers required customers to sign up for each chain’s loyalty programs, so keep that in mind.

Remember that it always pays to compare prices; you can do this via websites such as Trolley.co.uk.

Plus, keep an eye on deal-finding sites like HotUKDeals.

How does the Sainsbury’s Nectar Card work?

Sainsbury’s has been part of the Nectar program since 2002 and acquired it in 2018.

Customers collect points when purchasing certain products or goods, in store and online.

For every €1 you spend, you receive one loyalty point.

You’ll also get one point for every £1 you spend on fuel bought at Sainsbury’s petrol stations. You can also collect points from hundreds of partners, including Esso and eBay.

You can register and download an e-Nectar Card by downloading the app on your smartphone.

You then have to swipe it every time you shop and the points are added to your account, which you can use to get cash future purchases.

Each point is effectively worth 0.5 cents, which means you need 500 points to get a €2.50 discount.

You can also sign up for the program on Sainsbury’s website.

In April, Sainsbury’s launched Nectar Price, offering customers exclusive discounts in a bid to compete with Tesco’s Clubcard.

You can register for the Nectar scheme for free on the chain’s website.

In the meantime, we reveal the best supermarket loyalty programs that will save you the most money.

Supermarket loyalty programs – which one has one?

MOST UK supermarkets have loyalty programs so customers can collect points and save money as they shop.

Here we provide an overview of the savings programs that you can find at the major brands.

  • Iceland: Unlike other stores, you do not save points with the Iceland Bonus Card. Instead, you load it up with money and Iceland will give you £1 for every £20 you save.
  • LidlPlus: Lidl customers do not collect points while shopping, but are instead rewarded with personalized vouchers that give them a cash discount at the checkout.
  • Morrisons: The My Morrisons: Make Good Things Happen replaces the More Card and rewards customers with personalized discount vouchers via the app.
  • Sainsbury’s: Although Sainsbury’s doesn’t have a personal plan, it does own the Nectar card which can also be used in Argos, eBay and other stores. You need 200 Nectar points to save and spend €1 on your card. You must spend at least €1 to get one Nectar point.
  • Tesco: Tesco Clubcard has more than 17 million members in the UK alone. You use it every time you shop and collect points that can be converted into vouchers. With 150 points you will receive a voucher of € 1.50. Here you have to spend £1 in Tesco to get one point.
  • Guard rose: myWaitrose also doesn’t allow you to collect points, but instead gives you access to free hot drinks and discounts on select brands in store.

The Cadbury Oreo white chocolate eggs are on sale at Asda for just £2.25, down from £2.50.

The eggs are a variation on the popular Creme Egg flavor, except with white chocolate instead of milk chocolate.

Asda started stocking the sweet snacks in January, but some shoppers are only now realizing they are on sale.

One posted a photo of the five-pack on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook Group last night commented “never seen it before”.

The post has generated hundreds of likes and comments from foodies eager to score some for themselves.

One said “Quick! Run! Lol”, while another, tagging a friend, added: “I need these. Fancy a trip to Asda”.

Meanwhile, a third simply said: “I need these.”

Please note that we’ve seen the multipack on sale on Asda’s website for £2.25, but they may be more expensive in your local branch.

The shopper who posted about the multi-pack on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK said they cost £2.50 in their nearby store.

We asked Asda how long the limited edition eggs will be available for sale and we’ll update this story when we hear back.

It’s not the first Cadbury chocolate to confuse shoppers in recent months.

This is how you find the best bargains in the supermarket

B&M customers were excited to see a new Cadbury Twirl flavor hit the shelves earlier this week for just 29p.

The nutty praline chip and caramel nut crunch flavors were both unveiled on Monday (March 18).

Cadbury fans also rushed to Amazon’s website this weekend to buy giant boxes of Creme Eggs for just over £21.

One shopper shared a photo of the local store having the sale and said there was a “fantastic £6 range”.

The photos are stored in the Facebook group Extreme Coupons and Bargains UK and showed aisles and racks filled with everything from tops to dresses and pants.

Many items were from George at Asda’s Easter range, and there were cute bunny-themed baby clothes and floral outfits.

The Asda store also had signs saying: “Wow, everything £6.”

For older children there were beautiful dresses, shorts and even boots for sale.

The boys’ collection also saw many dinosaur-themed items reduced to £6.

Hundreds of people liked the post, with many saying they would be rushing to Asda to stock up.

One said: “defo will be watching.”

Another added: “must go.”

And a third commented: “I need a day of shopping.”

‘This is definitely not from Asda,’ say fashionistas who spotted the perfect spring jacket, but some think it gives off ‘Mary Berry’ vibes

It’s not the only Asda collection to cause a stir among shoppers.

Stacey Solomon’s Asda range has also proven that she is not only a DIY expert, but also the queen of interior design.

And those who loved her Easter range will be pleased to know that she is releasing another range of homewares in the supermarket.

The 127-piece collection was a hit with her fans with prices starting from just £1.

The mother of five was inspired by her adorable Pickle Cottage and the surrounding nature.

The new range contains many natural elements – from cute floral patterns to rattan accessories.

And now it looks like it won’t be long before a new range hits stores.

On Instagram, the Sort Your Life Out show shared a sneak peek of what’s out there next one in line.
