A footy fan left Allegiant Stadium worse for wear after a messy brawl in the stands during the NRL extravaganza in Las Vegas on Sunday.

The Sea Eagles recorded a shock 36-24 win over South Sydney Rabbitohs in the 2024 season opener, played in the United States as footy bosses look to grab a slice of the huge American market.

But it wasn’t all cheering for one Manly fan, who was left bleeding after a nasty fight in the stands, according to footage published on social media.

Details remain unclear, but a series of short videos of the incident suggest it started with a man in a Sea Eagles jersey staggering in the stands and appearing to be intoxicated by alcohol.

One video shows another man holding the Manly fan and apparently trying to protect him, before a third gentleman in a light gray shirt tries to grab him.

The man in the Sea Eagles jersey seems quite defenseless considering his drunkenness, and the third man hits him with a hard punch that rocks his head.

Another video shows the Manly fan leaving the stands with blood all over his face and right hand.

It is not known whether the man in the light gray shirt was processed by security.

Another video shows the Manly fan in a wheelchair being checked by medical staff. Someone is heard shouting ‘go Manly’ as he is watched.

A crowd of 40,746 people attended the Vegas bonanza, while Allegiant Stadium had a capacity of 65,000 fans.

Nicole Kidman threw herself into filming on Wednesday while working on the set of her upcoming film, Babygirl.

The 56-year-old Australian actress took to the streets of New York City to film the erotic thriller, where she was joined by a four-legged co-star.

Beaming broadly, Nicole petted her furry friend and lay down on the sidewalk as he playfully ran around her.

She looked effortlessly stylish for the scenes, wearing a cream coat over a midi dress, paired with white trainers.

'Friendship, love and respect. That is what drives them,” a good friend of the King and Queen recently told me.

'They are very different people in many ways, but at the core you have two people who really love and respect each other and still laugh a lot. It's really sweet.'

It is a judgment emphasized by Annabel Elliot, Camilla's sister, who described them in a BBC interview last month as 'yin and yang' but as an extremely 'brilliant' team.

And that is why I have no doubt that Queen Camilla will be more of a rock for the King than ever in the coming difficult months.

Naturally, the disturbing news that her husband has been diagnosed with cancer will be a huge blow to Her Majesty.

Rebecca English says 'Queen Camilla will be more of a rock for the King than ever in the difficult months ahead' after news of Charles' cancer diagnosis

The King's cancer diagnosis comes after he left hospital last week following a 'corrective procedure' for an enlarged prostate - further tests continued to reveal separate cancer problem

From the moment they first fell in love in their early twenties, Charles and Camilla's lives have been inextricably linked.

While their story may not have been a conventional love story – the late Queen Elizabeth at one point feared that the couple's passion could spell the downfall of the monarchy – it is one that can ultimately be regarded as one of the most enduring of our time.

Their Majesties will celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary next year, a milestone that many once thought utterly impossible.

But the Queen is also stoic – the definition of the British stiff upper lip – and someone who takes things very easily.

I'm sure her approach to this devastating news will be typically calm and pragmatic, and she will insist on being by her husband's side and supporting him every step of the way.

I can tell you that she was with him last night at Clarence House when he returned to London to begin outpatient hospital treatment.

And I am told that while she is understandably concerned and preparing to 'play an important role in supporting the King during his period of treatment', she plans to continue a full program of public duties at the same time.

That British stiff upper lip again.

“She's a fucking brick,” says a friend.

Ironically, in the early days of their marriage, it was Charles who protected Camilla the most because he knew the magnitude of what she had taken on to be by his side.

The king appeared cheerful on Sunday as he arrived with Queen Camilla for a service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk.

Queen Camilla prepares to

Queen Camilla prepares to 'play an important role in supporting The King during his treatment period'

On their first official trip to the US after their wedding in 2005, I watched as the future king instinctively reached into the aisle of our plane and squeezed his wife's shaking hand as we took off, knowing how terrified she was of flying (although I also subsequently heard him shout during one particularly bumpy flight, “Honey, please don't hold me so hard!”)

But over the years, Camilla has blossomed, becoming increasingly confident under the often very cruel public spotlight and gaining admiration for her work ethic and confidence in taking on old-fashioned causes.

Of course, things haven't always gone smoothly.

Camilla's relationship with William and Harry has always been extremely complex.

But privately, William recognizes how happy Camilla has made their father and appreciates the fact that she never tried to interfere in their lives.

There is also admiration for the way she has zealously embraced royal duties at a time in her life when most people would be slowing down – without a peep of complaint.

'The King and Queen know what their role is, why they do it and what they want to achieve. She has become increasingly bold in the work she does, tackling difficult issues such as domestic violence but not stepping on any toes. They work well together and there is a lot of mutual trust,” the friend said.

The same band is also visible in private.

'They get along great, they share the same sense of humor and make each other laugh. They have the same interests: the countryside, walking, their dogs… and yes, the Queen also knows when to make a hasty retreat. She knows when to give him space,” another source added.

Although she strongly supports her husband's dedication to the causes he holds dear, Camilla also doesn't mind poking lovingly at that seriousness every now and then.

More than once over the years, I've caught her eye as her husband waxes lyrical about a cause close to his heart, a knowing smile on her lips and a mischievous glint in her eye.

Rebecca English says: “She (Camilla) is his fiercest champion and no one should ever underestimate her loyalty to him. They come as a team. Disrespect him at your own peril.”

King Charles wears the Robe of Estate and the Imperial State Crown – and holds the Sovereign's Orb and Scepter in the throne room of Buckingham's Palace during his coronation last year

During an official visit to Egypt several years ago, the entire royal entourage was forced to rough it somewhat in modest mud-brick houses because Charles was eager to visit an eco-friendly, electricity-free village.

His wife later confided to me, amid much amusing eye-rolling, that the lack of electrical outlets was “all well and good if you don't have to use a blooming hairdryer.”

But don't mistake her ability to sometimes laugh at the absurdities of the position she found herself in as a sign of casual disgust. Queen Camilla is fiercely loyal to 'her husband' – and woe betide anyone who disrespects him.

“It sounds so terribly cliché, but she truly respects her husband, his drive, his passion to change the world for the better,” says another confidante.

“She is his fiercest champion and no one should underestimate her loyalty to him. They come as a team. Disrespect him is at your peril.”

In all the years I have worked with her, I have never heard Camilla refer to her husband as anything other than 'His Royal Highness, the Prince, the King or His Majesty', even in private.

“She has enormous respect for her husband as a king, but also as a man, and for the institution of the monarchy,” another source added. “That's something Queen Elizabeth also came to admire.”

And a friend tells me that as Camilla becomes tolerant of her husband's idiosyncrasies, he is just as patient with hers.

“He has, how should I put it, brought a bit of discipline to her, er, somewhat disorganized routine,” they noted wryly, with a nod to Camilla's notorious sloppiness and previously rather “relaxed” attitude to life.

Of course there is friction every now and then.

The king can become irritable if his wife talks too much. She wishes he would go slower, just a touch.

But they are small, everyday marital disputes and the king is clearly grateful to have someone with whom to share this rather strange and sometimes lonely life.

You only had to see the smile of undisguised pride that lit up his face as he watched his wife walk out of Buckingham Palace in her coronation get-up last May to understand how much she means to him.

They still have separate homes: Camilla has Raymill in Wiltshire, bought as a single woman, where she lives an informal existence away from strict palace life, while Charles still loves the formality/informality of Highgrove in nearby Gloucestershire .

But they are still close, so confident in their relationship that they can just sit in a room and read, without saying a word – just the occasional smile.

Charles has also embraced Camilla's family like his own. He has a huge bond with her sister Annabel, who will provide a shoulder to cry on for her sister who lost her husband to a long-term illness a few days before the coronation last year.

And he adores her children, Tom and Laura, and her five grandchildren.

During an interview five years ago, Camilla told me how her husband was a brilliant storyteller, who regularly read to the children at bedtime, especially Harry Potter, and did all the different voices for them. They were always fascinated, she said.

It is a side of the King that few get to hear about.

Above all, there is laughter. The kind of painful, heart-wrenching laughter that makes you weak in the knees.

At royal engagements, you'll often see the couple literally crying over a shared joke, appearing again and again as they grab each other's attention – no mean feat after 18 years of marriage – especially when things don't go quite to plan.

Laughter is something they will need more than ever as a couple as they face the King's current health crisis.

And like everything in life, it is something they will tackle together, united.

King and queen, but more importantly, husband and wife.

EastEnders actor Max Bowden was caught telling fans he was 'so bloody excited' to get out as he filmed some of his final scenes for the BBC soap.

The 29-year-old soap star, who was axed from the series after four years, was filmed by a fan holding him back as he left the set in a clip obtained by the Sun.

Max was spotted by fans after filming at Elstree Studios, Borehamwood, as he shot his character's exit scenes, which will air in the spring.

During the clip, Max told the Sun: 'Anyone listening to this audio will hear clearly that this is not a foul-mouthed rant. I talked about my excitement for the future and what's to come.'

Max's contract as Ben Mitchell's player was not renewed after he reportedly received warnings from the boss about his behaviour.

Max was spotted by fans after filming at Elstree Studios, Borehamwood, as he shot his character's exit scenes, which will air in the spring.

The sun on Sunday claimed that the decision not to renew Max's contract was made after they disciplined him.

A source said: 'Max is ready to move on. He is proud of his time on the show and what he has achieved, but he is focused on new projects and what he will do next.”

It was reported that the actor had made decisions with bosses for a talk with executives about his off-screen drama in 2022.

A TV source said: 'Max was called by executives for an interview. He is an extremely talented actor and was always a true professional on set. However, there were concerns that his partying lifestyle away from the set could prove a distraction.'

Off-screen, Max had been dating his co-star Shona McGarty, 32, for six months before they decided to call time on their romance. Shona will also leave the soap in the coming weeks after 15 years.

Sources claimed the pair were 'inseparable' following his split from girlfriend Roisin Buckle, and they made their relationship official on Instagram in August 2022.

However, Max and Shona split in October 2022, with sources claiming the pair had decided to remain friends after Max welcomed a baby boy with his ex Roisin.

Their relationship started when his ex-girlfriend Roisin, 38, was pregnant with their child.

In September 2022, Max revealed that he was a father for the first time after the birth of his son.

Roisin and Max both shared a sweet black and white photo of their son, who was born on September 19, 2022, as they revealed they named him Reginald.

They revealed they were expecting their first child in April 2022. The soap star met Roisin in a pub in June 2021. The pair quickly bonded and went on holiday to Madeira in July.

The couple decided to split in March 2022, while agreeing to co-parent once their son was born, but Roisin claimed in August that they had not been in contact for two months.

The same month, Max was spotted at a country music festival with his EastEnders co-star Shona at London's O2.

'Grateful for family and friends. Thanks for all the messages. Great love.'

His final scenes will air in the spring, but it is understood that his character Ben, who has been played by numerous actors in the past, will not be killed off.

An EastEnders spokesperson told MailOnline: 'Max will be leaving EastEnders next year. We wish him all the best for the future.'

A TV insider said this The sun: 'Max has been playing Ben for the past four years and the bosses decided his time on the show was over.

“There's been a lot of noise around him for a little too long and that can take away from the drama in the show.

'He went for an interview because his contract would be extended next year. No one knew how things would go and after consultation it was decided that he would leave.'

Max, the sixth actor to play Ben, has been involved in some of the soap's biggest storylines of late.

Ben struggled to cope with the death of Lola Pearce-Brown (Danielle Harold), who was the mother of his daughter Lexi.

He subsequently developed eating disorder bulimia while trying to cope with his grief.

When Russian troops and tanks invaded Ukraine in February 2022, tens of thousands of Ukrainians rushed to serve in the military in a wave of patriotic enthusiasm. The influx of fighters who dutifully responded to their draft notices or volunteered helped repel Russia's initial attack and thwart the Kremlin's plans to decapitate the Ukrainian government.

But after nearly two years of bloody fighting, and with Ukraine once again needing new troops to fend off another Russian attack, military leaders can no longer rely solely on enthusiasm. More and more men are avoiding military service, while the call to demobilize exhausted frontline soldiers is increasing.

The change in mood was mainly reflected in the heated debates about a new one mobilization bill that could lead to the deployment of up to 500,000 troops. The bill was introduced to parliament last month but was quickly withdrawn for review.

The bill has fueled dissatisfaction in Ukrainian society over the army recruitment process, which has been labeled as rife with corruption and increasingly aggressive. Many lawmakers have said that some of its provisions, such as the ban on conscripts purchasing real estate, could constitute a human rights violation.

The biggest sticking point concerns the extremely delicate issue of mass mobilization. Measures that would make conscription easier are seen by experts as a way to pave the way for large-scale conscription, the kind that several military officials have recently said is needed to make up for battlefield losses and another year to endure heavy fighting. Many in Ukraine fear that such measures could fuel social tensions.

President Volodymyr Zelensky seems unwilling to take responsibility for drawing up a major draft. Instead, he asks his government and the military to come up with more arguments supporting this move. “I have not yet seen clear enough details to say that we need to mobilize half a million people,” he said in a speech. recent interview with Channel 4a British broadcaster.

The military has suggested that mass mobilization is a problem for the civilian government, a response that could worsen emerging tensions between Mr. Zelensky and his top commander, Valery Zaluzhny. The Ukrainian president reprimanded General Zaluzhny in the fall after saying the war had reached a stalemate.

“It's a hot potato,” said Petro Burkovsky, head of the Democratic Initiatives Foundation, a Ukrainian think tank.

“The political leaders decided to avoid the issue of mobilization for most of the war,” Burkovsky said. But with troops depleted after two years, ignoring them is not sustainable, “and at this point someone has to be politically responsible.”

The challenge of amassing enough soldiers is just one of many facing Ukraine as foreign military and financial aid becomes harder to come by, threatening to weaken Kiev's ability to maintain the front line and support the economy.

The need to strengthen the Ukrainian armed forces has been clear for months. Although Kiev has kept the number of casualties secret, U.S. officials this summer estimated the toll at nearly 70,000 dead and 100,000 to 120,000 injured.

Russian losses, according to U.S. officials, were nearly twice as high as those resulting from sending waves of troops in bloody raids to take cities, regardless of the human cost. But Russia has a much larger population and has expanded its ranks with tens of thousands of prisoners.

In contrast, Ukraine's efforts to rebuild its armed forces have lagged behind.

Soldiers at the front said they had noticed a steady decline in the quality of recruits. Many are older, have injuries from years ago and are unmotivated to fight. More and more men are also trying to avoid the draft, fleeing the country or hiding at home. Desertion, said a Ukrainian soldier stationed in the east, is also becoming a problem.

That has prompted military recruiters to turn to more aggressive tactics, forcing men into draft offices, detaining them, sometimes illegally, and forcing them to enlist. Advocates and activists have spoken out, but there is little sign of change. Many Ukrainians compare recruiters to 'people robbers'.

General Zaluzhny said in a essay in November that the recruitment process needed to be overhauled “to build up our reserves.” But he and other officials have offered little alternative to a large-scale mobilization.

Mr. Zelensky has said that his military leaders have asked him to mobilize 450,000 to 500,000 troops. “This is a significant number,” he said last month, adding that a plan had to be put in place before he could decide.

Experts say this is the main goal of the mobilization law, which does not specify how many troops should be added. It would lower the draft age from 27 to 25, limit deferrals for minor disabilities and limit draft evaders' ability to get a loan or buy real estate. It also gives local authorities greater responsibility for conscription.

Viktor Kevliuk, a retired Ukrainian colonel who oversaw mobilization in western Ukraine from 2014 to 2018, said the bill was “specifically intended” to facilitate the drafting of hundreds of thousands of people.

“The state is taking a strong stance on how quickly it can provide its armed forces with so many personnel,” Kevliuk said.

But many lawmakers, including from Mr. Zelensky's party, have expressed concern about measures such as those affecting the disabled and draft evaders. They also say that relying on local governments can make problems worse. Regional recruitment centers are plagued by corruption, with officers taking bribes to allow men to avoid conscription.

“All in all, this made this bill unacceptable in its form,” said Oleksiy Honcharenko, an MP from the opposition European Solidarity party.

Mr Honcharenko added that the introduction of the bill in parliament had been “messy”, reflecting the government's desire “to avoid political responsibility”. The bill was introduced on Christmas Eve some critics saw it as an attempt to go unnoticed, and in the name of Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal, rather than Mr Zelensky.

After several days of debate this month, lawmakers sent the bill back for review.

“I clearly understand that the army's task is to achieve success at the front,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk, the speaker of parliament. recently told the Ukrainian news media. “However, we must work together to regulate such important and sensitive processes as mobilization.”

Rustem Umerov, Ukraine's Defense Minister, said the government was already making revisions. He expressed frustration over the lawmakers' decision, saying the mobilization had been “politicized and stalled.”

Mr Honcharenko said a broader debate is needed on Ukraine's military strategy. No one had clearly explained why it was now necessary to employ up to half a million people, he said, confusing citizens.

“If our strategy is to attack through Russian minefields, with Russian air superiority, then maybe 500,000 people are not enough, I don't know. Maybe one million, or even two million, won't be enough,” he said. “We cannot compete with Russia when it comes to the number of people. They will always win this game, they are just bigger than us.”

Mr. Burkovsky, the political analyst, said Ukrainian authorities had failed to “plan the pace of recruitment, training and replenishment of troops” in the first year of the war, forcing them to go through the conscription process without addressing the underlying issues causing concern in Ukrainian civil society.

For example, the bill leaves open the possibility of demobilizing troops after three years of service. But relatives of men who have fought since the war began say that is too long and they must now be replaced. In recent weeks, Ukrainian cities have seen a growing number protests calling for immediate demobilizationa rare show of public criticism in wartime.

Mr Zelenskiy has also highlighted the costs of mobilization for Ukraine's weak economy.

Conscription means fewer taxpayers have to cover a larger military payroll. Mr. Zelensky said last month that mobilizing more than 450,000 people would cost 500 billion Ukrainian hryvnias, about $13 billion — while the continuation of Western financial aid is in doubt.

“Where are we going to get the money from?” Mr. Zelensky asked.

  • Injuries ruled him out of the Tour Down Under
  • He and three other riders crashed during a fast descent

Bruised and bloodied reigning Australian road race champion Luke Plapp has been forced to abandon the Tour Down Under due to injuries suffered in a heavy crash on Thursday's third stage.

Plapp had torn his jersey, covering his exposed back and shoulders with severe road rash and swollen elbows and ankles after falling during a fast descent at the end of the stage.

On Friday morning, after monitoring him overnight, his team Jayco-AlUla announced that he would not start the fourth stage of the race due to “discomfort and persistent pain from a large number of wounds.”

The injuries were the result of a serious crash involving several riders approximately 10 km from the finish line.

Plapp, who has won the last three national road titles and was considered by many to be a red-hot contender for the overall winner's jersey, crashed as the riders reached speeds of almost 60mph on the descent.

He did finish the stage and was not taken to hospital, but was instead treated by his team's medical staff.

But the result left Plapp more than 10 minutes behind the leader, and his injuries prevented him from continuing the race.

Plapp's injuries made for a frustrating Tour for Australia's only WorldTour team without a stage win in the men's or women's races in Adelaide.

His teammate Caleb Ewan, who was pipped at the finish of stage three, revealed how she found out about the crash.

“I heard a crash and I heard something (on the radio) about Plappy, so I just assumed he went down,” he said after the finish.

“I'm not sure if he's right or not.”

UAE Emirates young player Isaac del Toro retains the lead going into the fourth stage.

White House staff had to be 'relocated' after thousands of pro-Palestine supporters forced their way into the building, threatening to breach the security fence and wave over bloodied dolls as part of a huge demonstration calling for a ceasefire against Gaza demanded.

Law enforcement officers defending the People's House donned riot gear as a baying mob pelted them with dolls and other projectiles.

A video taken during Saturday's event shows the metal perimeter being shaken so hard that parts of it were redirected, forcing Secret Service agents to rush to one section to prevent a breach.

The Secret Service later confirmed that the anti-limescale fence suffered “temporary damage,” which was “immediately repaired.”

The meeting is part of a global day of protest marking 100 days since the October 7 Hamas attack that killed 1,200 people and took hundreds of others hostage.

Since then, Israel's retaliatory bombing campaign has killed more than 23,800 people in Gaza, according to the Israeli Health Ministry.

Tonight's demonstration is the second largest in support of Gaza to be held outside the White House in Washington since the war began.

The temporary destruction caused during the meeting meant that White House staff and journalists had to be evacuated from the area.

“Out of an abundance of caution, some members of the media and staff near Pennsylvania Avenue were temporarily relocated while the matter was addressed,” the Secret Service said. Fox news.

“The Secret Service made no arrests in connection with the march and there was no property damage to the White House or adjacent buildings.”

Protesters calling for a ceasefire used emotional symbols to convey their message. At one point, women in Palestinian clothing staged a protest with bloodied dolls tied in sheets.

Nearly two-thirds of the 23,843 people killed in the conflict are women and children, according to the Health Ministry.

Protesters also carried Palestinian flags and held up signs questioning President Joe Biden's viability as a presidential candidate because of his staunch support for Israel.

Some signs read: “No votes for Genocide Joe,” “Biden has blood on his hands” and “Let Gaza live.”

At one point, the fence was shaken so violently that parts of it were pushed back as demonstrators stormed toward the White House, forcing undercover security agents to swarm to one section to prevent a breach.

Vendors also sold South African flags as protesters chanted slogans in support of the country whose genocide allegations against Israel prompted the International Court of Justice in The Hague to hear the case.

Dan Devries, a New York resident, said he attended the protest because he wants to see a free Gaza, but that he would not vote for Biden or possible Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“I see this war as part of the American effort to compensate for the economic decline by constantly waging war,” Devries said.

Washington resident Phil Kline held up a sign calling on Pope Francis to excommunicate Biden.

'I know he's a devout Catholic. Maybe he will take this issue seriously if the Pope deposes him Ffrom the church. There is no justification for bombing civilians,” Kline said, although he added that he still plans to vote for Biden in the November election.

Biden has long expressed support for Israel, but confirmed that he has been working with the Israeli government to convince them to reduce their attacks on Gaza.

Adam Aboshirieah, one of the speakers, said more than 100 family members, including his 83-year-old father, mother and brother, have been killed in Israeli airstrikes.

“Dozens of bodies of my relatives are still buried under the rubble,” said Aboshirieah, a pharmacist from New Jersey. “President Biden can easily put an end to this genocide… He can easily pick up the phone and call Israel to stop this madness.”

The demonstration came a day after the US launched a second round of attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen, a move that also sparked protests in New York and Seattle.

The attack was in response to months of attacks by the Houthis on ships in the Red Sea, which they said were aimed at ending Israel's siege of Gaza.

However, the ships targeted by the Iran-backed rebels had become increasingly indiscriminate and they were warned that they would face consequences if they did not stop their attacks.

While Biden has long been a staunch supporter of Israel, he has expressed concern about civilian deaths as the war has dragged on.

He previously described Israel's bombing campaign as “indiscriminate” and said Monday that he had been working “quietly” with the Israeli government to encourage it to reduce its attacks and “significantly leave Gaza.”

Retired BBC royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell has revealed that Charles hasn’t spoken to him for ‘years’ after a story he wrote enraged the then-future king – and sparked those famous hot mic comments.

The veteran royal correspondent, who steps down next year, was the target of the then Prince of Wales’s annoyance during a photo shoot with William and Harry in the Swiss Alps in 2005, just eight days before Charles was due to marry Queen Camilla.

The then-Prince of Wales was angry when Witchell asked him how he felt about his upcoming wedding, prompting the future monarch to say quietly, “Bloody people.” I can’t stand that man. I mean, he’s so terrible, he really is.’

In an interview with Sunday times, the journalist has now explained exactly why Charles was so angry, saying that a piece he had written about a holiday he took with Camilla on a friend’s yacht had fueled the anger.

Ex-BBC royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell (pictured in 2016) said he so upset Charles with a piece he wrote about the future king during a hunting holiday with Camilla that the then prince ‘didn’t speak to him for years ‘. ‘

He said: ‘I had likened it to holidays taken by a former Prince of Wales [Edward VIII] with his mistress [Wallis Simpson], and I know he really didn’t like that. He was very angry.’

The ex-BBC man revealed that Charles stopped speaking to him for several years, something the journalist said did not hurt his career as it proved he was not ‘blowing smoke into the back of the royal family’.

Witchell said he and the monarch were eventually reconciled, and the king had even become patron of the Normandy Memorial Trust, which the journalist co-founded.

Earlier this year, Witchell revealed he was ‘shocked’ when he realized exactly what Charles had said about him in 2005. He said his question to the royal family had gone ‘terribly wrong’, adding: ‘I was shocked, but to be completely honest ‘we’re all mumbling under our breath, aren’t we?’

The journalist, who has been reporting on the royal family since 1998, announced last week that he will retire next year.

He joined the broadcaster in 1976 as a graduate news intern.

King Charles had been on holiday at the Klosters resort when he was contacted by Mr Witchell, who asked: ‘May I ask how you and Princes William and Harry feel about the prospect of marriage?’

Speak with The Telegraphthe journalist said he hoped with his question that Prince Harry and William would ‘endorse the wedding’.

“But it just went terribly wrong,” he said.

Witchell has admitted he was ‘shocked’ when King Charles called him ‘terrible’ during a now infamous TV interview

‘People were not in the best mood that morning. It actually sounds like the most idiotic and pathetic question: “What do you think of the wedding?”

‘But if you unpack that a bit, as the then Prince of Wales did straight away… I could see his face change color slightly.’

Charles initially interrupted him before Mr. Witchell had completed his question, saying, “You’ve heard of it, haven’t you?”

William said politely: “Very happy, very satisfied. It’s going to be a good day.’

Before Charles began his tirade, he said again, “I’m really glad you heard about it.”

Aides suggested Charles was annoyed because William and Kate Middleton – then the prince’s girlfriend – had been photographed the previous day.

Paddy Harverson, Charles’ press secretary at the time, said: ‘We recognize that we cannot stop photographers from taking these photographs, but we hope every year that they will respect the privacy of family and friends and their need for a private holiday.’

In 2005, Prince Charles – as he then was – famously insulted the BBC's royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell

Harverson later said: “Nicholas was in the line of fire when the prince expressed his general frustration with the paparazzi and it boiled over at the first person who asked a question,” he said.

‘It wasn’t personal. He regrets saying it. He really didn’t mean to take it out on Nicholas.’

Mr Witchell said this weekend that Charles had not apologized, but he had not expected to either.

He said there was “no contact” between the pair for “a number of years” before they had a “rapprochement” in Saudi Arabia.

Mr Witchell broadcast the confirmed news of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales on August 31, 1997, and provided live radio commentary from outside Westminster Abbey at her funeral.

The 70-year-old first joined the BBC after completing a law degree at the University of Leeds, and later became a BBC reporter in Northern Ireland in 1979, where he covered the murder of Earl Mountbatten, among other things and the IRA hunger strikes.
