President Biden delivered a mix of jokes and sharp criticism at the presumptive Republican nominee, former President Donald J. Trump, at the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington on Saturday.

“One candidate is too old and mentally unfit to be president,” Biden said. “The other man is me.”

It was the first time since he became president that he had attended the dinner, a light-hearted evening in a series of high-profile gatherings in Washington where politicians and journalists don white gloves and bow ties to lightly roast each other through speeches and skits. The Gridiron Club, one of the oldest journalism associations in Washington, hosted the dinner at the Grand Hyatt in Washington.

However, Biden did not just focus on his opponent. He saved time for an investigation into Republicans in Congress and their efforts to oust him and his Homeland Security Secretary, Alejandro N. Mayorkas.

“Republicans would rather fail at impeachment than succeed at anything else,” he said. Referring to Leo Varadkar, the Irish prime minister, who was sitting at his table, Mr Biden said: “He took one look at Congress and asked for another Guinness.”

But during the roughly nine-minute remarks, Mr. Biden also struck a more serious tone, issuing stark warnings about threats to democracy. His aides hope that emphasizing the stakes of the November election will draw voters to the polls amid low approval ratings for Biden.

“Freedom is under attack,” Biden said. “The lies about the 2020 election, the plot to overthrow it and the embrace of the January 6 insurrection pose the greatest threat to our democracy since the Civil War.”

“A poison coursing through the veins of our democracy,” Mr. Biden continued. “Disinformation everywhere. There is a toxic cycle of anger and conspiracy.”

The president also addressed Mr. Trump’s recent statement about not defending NATO allies who do not pay their dues to the alliance.

“Democracy and freedom are literally under attack,” Biden said. “Putin is on the march in Europe. My pastor bows to him and says, “Do whatever you want.” An American president actually said that.”

At the president’s table were Vice President Kamala Harris, his top Cabinet officials and Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. Mr. Biden also selected two others to his table: the prime minister of Estonia and the Ukrainian ambassador.

“We will not bow, they will not bow and I will not bow,” Mr. Biden said.

Mr Biden also previewed his campaign as he delivered one of Mr Trump’s most memorable suggestions during the Covid pandemic. He pledged that his administration would show “how we weathered the pandemic, turned around the economy, and restored American leadership in the world — all without encouraging the American people to inject bleach.”

“Or without destroying the economy, embarrassing us around the world or yearning for insurrection,” he continued. “Look, I wish these were jokes, but they’re not.”

Work From Home ends: If you are currently employed at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), you must be aware of the latest news. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), an Indian multinational information technology company

Following the complaint, TCS has reportedly formed a panel of three executives, including Chief Information Security Officer Ajit Menon, to investigate the allegation.

Working from home ends: If you are currently employed at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), you need to be aware of the latest news. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), an Indian multinational IT services and consulting company, has granted its employees an additional quarter, extending the deadline for returning to the office until the end of March; However, failure to do so could have 'serious consequences'. Yes, according to a report from The Economic Times (the story behind the paywall), TCS has extended the deadline for employees who are currently working from home despite the company's mandate working from the office. These employees must now return to the office in March. Failure to comply with this extended deadline will have “serious consequences.”

This announcement from Tata Consultancy Services marks the software giant's “last call” for employees still working remotely. Earlier, in October 2023, the IT company had made it mandatory for employees to come to the office five days a week. “We are exercising patience, but have taken a principled position that people should return to the office. We have sent the latest communication in this regard to the staff and if they do not (follow) this, there will be dire consequences,” TCS's Chief Operating Officer NG Subramaniam spoke to ET.

Work from home until the end Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Employees! COO sites Important reasons

He said concerns about work culture and safety issues are the main reasons behind employees' push to come back to the office. “With the type of cyber attacks in the current context, an organization can unintentionally get into trouble. You cannot have these kinds of controls at home and there could be security risks for businesses,” the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Mumbai-based company told ET. The primary goal is to get back to the way things were before the pandemic, with everyone working together in the office, and move away from the hybrid model that was introduced during the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. During the deadly pandemic, several companies, IT giants and other layouts were forced to switch to online media. Now that things are back to normal, the IT giant is looking to restore the pre-pandemic work culture. According to the report, nearly 40,000 people have joined us online and quit online without any offline interaction during the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Tata Consultancy Services is an IT services, consulting and business solutions organization that partners with many of the world's largest companies on their transformation journeys. TCS is part of the Tata group, India's largest multinational business group, and its current workforce is over 616,000.

But boss Poch said: “I told the players at a meeting today that I trust you more than ever. I'm going to support you more than ever.

“I am not a normal boss, I am the leader and I have to emphasize in every action that I really trust the players.

“If they don't perform, it is always my responsibility and that of the players, because they are on the field.

“I trust that we can change the situation and change the results.”

Chelsea were beaten 4-1 at Liverpool on Sunday and then 4-2 at home by Wolves to send them to the bottom half of the Premier League.

But Pochettino revealed he received a supportive text message from Chelsea owners Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly to reassure him at a tense time.

The Argentinian added: “I received a very good text from them. We are all in this together.

Dick Smith says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s Labor Party has failed the working class by refusing to reduce immigration during a cost-of-living crisis.

More than 400,000 migrants arrived in Australia over the year to September as house prices rose by double digits despite the Reserve Bank’s aggressive interest rate hike.

Rents in capital cities have also risen by double digits in the past year, while inflation is still stubbornly high at 4.9 percent. This raises fears of further interest rate increases as strong population growth increases housing demand.

Mr Smith told Daily Mail Australia that Labor has failed in its duty to help struggling suburban people who traditionally vote for the ALP.

“Labour has failed the working class because it has failed to communicate that we need a population plan,” the 79-year-old entrepreneur said.

‘You would think they would have a population plan so that working people can buy a house and buy their food.

Dick Smith says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s Labor Party has failed the working class by refusing to cut immigration during a cost-of-living crisis

“We need sensible levels of immigration so that people can afford homes as they did in our country’s first century and a half.”

Mr Smith lamented the fact that young people could no longer afford a house with a backyard and were forced to live in high-rise apartments.

He agreed that the Silent Generation and Baby Boomers had a much easier time than today’s young people when it came to buying their first home.

The businessman bought his first home in Greenwich on Sydney’s lower north shore for just $32,000 in 1973, four years after marrying wife Pip and five years after founding Dick Smith Electronics.

‘It had a beautiful view of the harbour. It was a house on a large piece of land, we put a swimming pool in it and the children could play in the garden – simply fantastic.

“We put down a deposit of about $6,000, which was easily raised.”

He said it is now “almost impossible” for young people to buy a house.

“Especially something with a backyard where the kids can play,” he said.

‘It means that the young people will live like battery chickens instead of free range.

‘They live in high-rise buildings, they live like termites. I think it’s a complete disaster.’

Mr Smith told Daily Mail Australia that Labor has failed in its duty to help struggling suburbanites who traditionally vote Labour.

He said business lobby groups and developers vociferously pushing for high immigration were making it so difficult for young people to enter the property market.

“It is driven by total greed and it will ruin the country for most people,” he said.

“About 30 percent of our population lives from paycheck to paycheck and has no savings at all.”

He said wealthy business interests had more influence over the Labor government than unions when it came to immigration.

“I have no doubt that politicians are very wary of sidelining the rich, otherwise I can’t think of any reason why Labor would want such high immigration,” he said.

‘You don’t hear the unions calling for immigration, but you do hear the rich.

“Our system of capitalism, from which I have benefited so much, needs continued growth and use of resources, energy and population or it will enter a recession.”

Mr Smith said both major political parties were relying on donations from companies that were driving strong population growth.

“It’s quite clear that no political party will stand against the rich, they’re just not game,” he said.

‘That would be a way not to be chosen.

‘The disadvantage of a democracy is that you get groups that become very powerful and that politicians have to bow to them in order to get elected.’

Mr Smith wants Australia’s net annual immigration level to be reduced to 70,000 people a year, where it was in 1997 before immigration climbed to six figures and continued to rise until the 2020 pandemic.

In the year to September, migration increased the population by 429,580 people, including both permanent and long-term arrivals.

The permanent segment, with a maximum of 190,000 for the period 2023-2024, includes 137,100 skilled migrants and to a lesser extent 52,500 places for family reunification and people with humanitarian visas.

As a result, international students make up the vast majority of new migrants, putting pressure on rental prices, while overseas inflows have been rising since Australia reopened in December 2021 following the Covid border closure.

Australia’s population now stands at 26.5 million, but Mr Smith said this could reach 100 million by the end of the 21st century, ending Australia’s uniqueness as a large, arid country with a relatively small population.

“Not many people I speak to believe that $100 million is sensible for a barren country like Australia,” Smith said.

“One of Australia’s great advantages is that it is a big country with a small population, but we are going to destroy that.”

Sydney’s average house price of $1.397 million is now 14.6 times an average full-time salary of $95,581.

With a 20 percent down payment of $279,378, someone with a $1.117 million mortgage would have a debt-to-income ratio of 11.7 — almost double the recommended maximum of six.

When Mr Smith bought his first home in 1973, the average house price in Sydney was $27,400.

With a 20 percent deposit of $5,480, an average single earner with a salary of $5,517 had a manageable debt-to-income ratio of four.

Despite the RBA’s 13 rate hikes since May 2022, average house prices in Sydney have risen 12.5 per cent since January, CoreLogic data for November shows.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Prime Minister’s Office and Business Council of Australia.

Optus could face millions of dollars in legal ramifications in the wake of the catastrophic network outage after healthcare was disrupted across the country.

The beleaguered telecoms company has been hit hard a few weeks ago after top bosses, including CEO Kelly Bayer-Rosmarin, led a Senate investigation in addition to the class action lawsuit filed in the Federal Court following a massive data breach last September .

Last week’s outage paralyzed millions of customers, who were left without cell phone or internet reception for hours.

Thousands of businesses were also affected; some lost thousands of dollars when payment systems that relied on Optus connections crashed.

It even affected Victoria’s rail system, with Metro Trains revealing the outage prevented the control center from communicating with trains.

Legal expert Samantha Pillay said the outage has not only exposed healthcare providers to legal action, but Optus is also open to consequences from healthcare providers seeking to recover any losses.

“Healthcare providers have reported that telehealth appointments have been cancelled, on-call midwives and anesthetists were unreachable and triple-0 emergency call services were unavailable from landlines,” said Ms Pillay, insurance and healthcare director at law firm Barry Nilsson.

‘The impact of these types of events could be much greater in the future as healthcare increasingly moves online to make it more accessible to rural and regional communities.’

Ramsay Health Care reported that phone services were knocked out across the country during the national outage.

In South Australia, the Department of Health said hospital telephone exchanges had been affected.

Other hospitals in Melbourne – including Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, Kilmore District Hospital and Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) – also had their phone lines affected.

Ms Pillay said new technologies in healthcare allow doctors to monitor patients’ vital signs and track important factors such as blood pressure and glucose.

They are automatically alerted when a patient’s condition worsens.

Ms Pillay said the failure of these technologies due to network disruptions such as Optus’s could lead to “serious or even catastrophic harm” to patients, especially in regional or rural communities.

“Healthcare providers, on the one hand, can take action to recover losses incurred by their businesses,” she said.

‘On the other hand, they may have to deal with claims from patients who suffered damage as a result of the event.

‘Even with a federal government investigation and an Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) investigation into the Optus outage, this type of ‘black swan’ event is likely to continue to occur as new technologies develop and our dependence on them increases .

‘In the not-too-distant future, telesurgery, aided by next-generation 5G, could become a reality in Australia.

“But what happens when a surgeon thousands of miles away, possibly in another country, is taken out of a real-time remote operating room due to a telecommunications failure?”

On Monday, Optus revealed the nationwide outage was caused by changes to 'routing information' following a software upgrade at the telco

On Monday, Optus revealed the nationwide outage was caused by changes to ‘routing information’ following a software upgrade at the telco

On Monday, Optus revealed the national outage had been caused due to changes in ‘routing information’ after a software upgrade by the telecom provider.

About 10.2 million customers had no internet or mobile access for about 13.5 hours last Wednesday.

Services were lost around 4:05 a.m. and were not fully restored until 5:35 p.m.

In a statement, Optus said its network received “changes to routing information from an international peering network following a routine software upgrade.”

“These changes to routing information propagated through multiple layers in our network and exceeded preset security levels on key routers that could not handle them,” their statement said.

‘This resulted in those routers disconnecting from the Optus IP Core network to protect themselves.’

Optus said the restoration required reconnecting or restarting routers in a number of locations across Australia.

“This is why the recovery was gradual throughout the afternoon,” their statement said.

Optus has since apologized to customers and is offering eligible postpaid customers an additional 200GB of data as a compensatory offer.

Optus said the restoration required reconnecting or restarting routers in a number of locations across Australia

The telco’s turbulent week has only worsened as the chaotic outage is triggered by a Senate inquiry led by Greens communications spokeswoman Sarah Hanson-Young.

Optus vice-president of regulatory and public affairs Andrew Sheridan said the company would cooperate with any proposed reviews by the Australian Federal Communications Department and the ACMA into the network outage.

“As a provider of critical infrastructure, we understand the importance of ensuring continuity of service and any lessons learned are likely to be useful to both Optus and others in our industry,” he said in a statement.

The Australian Business Network reports Optus could be forced to pay up to $400 million in compensation if it strikes a deal with the regulator.

In addition, thousands of customers have joined a class action lawsuit against the telco after their personal data was hacked in 2022.

Up to nine million Aussies were affected by the data breach, with their names, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses and, for some customers, addresses and ID document numbers such as a driver’s license or passport number exposed.

A hacker believed to be behind the attack demanded a ransom of $1.5 million on a forum for the return of the data.

But bizarrely, the post was deleted and the author apologized for his actions.

Slater and Gordon’s class action lawsuit alleges that Optus failed to “protect, or take reasonable steps to protect, the personal information of its current and former customers.”

“The type of information that was made accessible put affected customers at greater risk of being defrauded and having their identity stolen, and Optus should have taken adequate measures to prevent that,” said Ben Hardwick, leader of the class actions practice.

‘The data breach may also have compromised the safety of many particularly vulnerable groups of Optus customers, such as victims of domestic abuse, stalking and other crimes, as well as those working in frontline professions including defense and police. .’

An Optus spokeswoman said: ‘As the matters are currently before the courts, we will not be commenting at this time.’

A water treatment plant on the outskirts of Gaza City has been destroyed by fire, satellite images taken Thursday and Friday showed – the latest evidence of damage to water infrastructure amid an increasingly dire shortage of clean water.

A satellite photo taken Thursday shows a huge plume of smoke rising from the fire and hanging over a wide swath of the city. The fire burned for at least four hours. An image from Friday shows the entire factory destroyed.

It was not clear what caused the fire or how recently the plant had been in operation.

The fire broke out during a water crisis in Gaza, which UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, warned about 70 percent of the people in the Gaza Strip drink contaminated water. With critical infrastructure destroyed and relatively few trucks carrying fuel and water allowed into Gaza, the water emergency has only worsened.

A UN expert on Friday Israel urged to allow clean water into the territory, along with fuel to run water purification systems, and called on the country to “stop using water as a weapon of war.”

The expert, Pedro Arrojo-Agudo, the organization’s special rapporteur on human rights and drinking water, told The New York Times that Israel’s bombing campaign has hit wells, water tanks and other water supply infrastructure. With little potable groundwater, Gaza relies heavily on desalination and water brought in from outside.

“But above all, the complete shutdown of electricity and fuel supplies, desalination plants and groundwater pumping has collapsed the functioning of the electricity grid,” he said.

Wim Zwijnenburga conflict and environmental researcher for the Dutch organization PAXwho shared details from an upcoming report on the destruction of water infrastructure, also said Pax has “identified numerous water supplies that have been damaged or destroyed, depriving citizens of access to clean water.”

The damage to infrastructure caused by the ongoing fighting “poses acute long-term health and environmental risks” for the people of Gaza, he said.

A private company, Abdul Salam Yaseen Company, also called Eta Water Company, operated out of the factory that burned down this week. Older images show the words “Water plant” were written in large letters on the roof of the building, clearly visible from the air.

Eta Water could not be reached, probably due to ongoing communications disruptions in Gaza.

Both the company’s website and Facebook page highlight its work with humanitarian organizations in Gaza. Eta’s latest social media post, op November 8, showed that the company installed water desalination units that it said were funded by UNICEF at a busy refugee camp in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. a September message by the company highlighted a project with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Aid agencies did not immediately respond to questions about whether the destruction of Eta’s facility would have an immediate impact on access to clean water. The Times viewed satellite images of water trucks lining up at the factory as recently as Oct. 12, before most residents fled northern Gaza for the south and Israel launched a ground invasion that, along with Israel’s bombing campaign, has destroyed large parts of Gaza to leave. City in ruins.

There have been street fights near the power plant, but it is unclear whether fighting also took place in the area on Thursday. Friday’s satellite image does not appear to show the large impact crater typically left behind by an Israeli airstrike.

Israeli ground forces were active nearby; Sometime in the 24 hours leading up to the fire, the Israelis appeared to have bulldozed an area 400 feet from the plant, and new tracks of heavy vehicles were visible. Israeli tanks and other military vehicles were stationed less than a mile away.

Approach Ibrahim reporting contributed.

Kim Zolciak and estranged husband Kroy Biermann reunited for a fancy dinner Saturday at the restaurant Mezza Luna Pasta and Seafood Smyrna, in Smyrna, Georgia.

The Real Housewives Of Atlanta alum, 45, and Biermann, 38, in spite of an ongoing split, celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary at the upscale establishment.

Zolciak shared clips from the Italian restaurant on an evening the couple set aside lingering hostilities – including a judge ordering her to stay in the basement of their Milton, Georgia mansion while they attempt to sell it – and enjoyed a series of courses.

Zolciak declared in a clip, ‘This is the best bruschetta I’ve ever had in my life,’ later lauding the establishment’s lasagna as ‘amazing.’

The estranged celeb couple did not let the split and massive financial issues spoil the occasion, as they were seen toasting with management at the eatery.

Late last month, a judge in their ongoing split ordered Zolciak to reside in the basement of the seven-bedroom, 11-bathroom home she and Zolciak share, TMZ reported after reviewing court docs.

Biermann was ordered to stay in the primary bedroom of the abode, the judge said adding that ‘neither party shall enter the other party’s individually awarded space in the marital residence without permission.’

Both parties are permitted to venture into the home’s common areas, including the living room and kitchen.

Earlier in the month, the estranged couple placed their mansion on the market with an asking price of $6,000,000, amid major financial issues that include a slated foreclosure on the property.

Zolciak and the former NFL player initially purchased their home in 2012 for $880,000, TMZ noted last month amid news of the home going on the market.

If the former couple were to receive their asking price on the sale, the outlet reported, they would make a profit, but time is of the essence, as the home is slated to be foreclosed upon this month.

The mansion, which was built in 2008, is situated on a golf course and has a number of amenities, including a pool in the backyard, a gym, a movie theater, a bar, a wine cellar and arcade.

In the legal documents Biermann filed in September, the former Atlanta Falcons player requested the court allow him to move forward in putting the family’s Milton, Georgia mansion on the market, stating it was on the brink of foreclosure.

Biermann and Zolciak have been hindered by major financial and relationship problems in recent months, having initially split in May before calling off their divorce in July.

They have reconciled and split up since then multiple times amid their ongoing family financial crisis, as Biermann in May called Zolciak a ‘compulsive behavior addict’ who had squandered $1.5 million dollars of the family fortune gambling.

The NFL alum made the allegations against Zolciak after she called police May 4 at their Milton, Georgia mansion, prior to his first divorce filing.

The accusations about Zolciak’s gambling losses were seen in a Milton Police Department bodycam video after officers responded to the home after Kim reported a domestic dispute.

The footage was obtained by RadarOnline.com after Biermann and Zolciak filed for divorce from one another amid a 12-year marriage.

Biermann – who was cautious as he spoke to law enforcement in hopes Zolciak would not hear him- called the Bravo personality a ‘narcissist to the extreme level.’

Biermann said that Zolciak’s penchant for gambling had grown exponentially in recent years.

‘It’s probably been going on for pretty much our entire marriage and it’s gotten significantly worse,’ Biermann said of Zolciak, who was pictured at a Bitcoin ATM in June in Atlanta. ‘In the last two years, she’s gambled away $700,000 – just in the last two-and-a-half years.’

He added: ‘The total in the marriage was about $1.5 million dollars – and she does it online.’

In the incident, Zolciak told police that Biermann had locked in a safe a cache of valuable items she owned that were worth $175,000 – including designer purses and jewelry – and hid the key from her.

Biermann said he believed the lot of items fell under the classification of community property, adding of the items: ‘The problem is these are the assets, there are no [other] assets to go to.’

Biermann told police that the Don’t Be Tardy alum ‘has decimated everything’ with her penchant for gambling; he added that some of her gaming activity was illegal.

Zolciak and Biermann’s four kids – Kroy Jr., 12, Kash, 11, and twins Kane and Kaia, nine – were at home at the time of the altercation.

Biermann had adopted Zolciak’s older children from previous relationships – Brielle, 26, and Ariana Biermann, 22 – when they were minors in the couple’s earlier years.

Brielle has also been dogged by financial issues as of late, as she was sued by American Express over an unpaid balance.

Zolciak sold off some of daughter Brielle Biermann’s designer goods last month to drum up funds, with asking prices up to $20,000 for the high-ticket items.

In their first two months of being split – in which both asked the court for sole legal and physical custody of their four younger children – Zolciak and Biermann took issue with one another in court documents.

Zolciak said that Biermann smokes marijuana, calling into credibility his ability to raise their kids; while Biermann claimed that Zolciak’s gambling habit has consumed her time and decimated the family finances.

Biermann told officers they had continued to sleep in the same bed but did not engage with one another.

News broke in July that the reality TV pair had decided not to split, withdrawing their divorce papers in Superior Court of Fulton County in Georgia. They were seen shortly before attending a church together in Atlanta.

Zolciak rose to fame as a member of the cast of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and parlayed her popularity into the spinoff Don’t Be Tardy… on Bravo. She also competed on five episodes of Dancing with the Stars in 2015.

Biermann was drafted into the NFL in 2008 after attending Montana, and played eight seasons, all for the Falcons.

He had his most productive year on the field in 2012 when he started 14 games, racking up 36 tackles, three sacks and scoring a touchdown on an interception.

The pair exchanged vows in a lavish $1 million wedding on November 11, 2011 – marking the date 11/11/11 – at their Georgia mansion.

The Voice winner Lachie Gill gives chilling warning to prospective singing competition contestants: ‘Don’t expect to be a star’

Lachie Gill revealed on Wednesday that it’s incredibly difficult to become a successful performer – even if you’ve starred on a popular singing show.

The former Voice winner, 25, said that because there are so many budding artists looking for their big break, a singer really needs to stand out to get noticed.

“People think if they just won a TV show, they’re going to be a star. It doesn’t work that way,” he said The Daily Telegraph.

“In the end, there are so many artists and you have to be that little bit different to make people want to listen to you instead of someone else.”

The Melbourne native said at the time that he recently recorded an album of new songs and couldn’t wait to release them.

“We have maybe 13 songs ready to go that we can put out, so we definitely want to get those out in a reasonable amount of time so people don’t wait months for a new song,” he said.

His warning rings true because while some singing show winners, such as Australian Idol’s Guy Sebastian, have gone on to have successful music careers, many others are fading from the spotlight, such as 2021 winner of The Voice Bella Taylor Smith.

Lachie was crowned the winner of The Voice Australia in June last year.

During the gripping grand finale episode, the Victorian won the $100,000 prize money and a recording contract with Universal Music Australia.

After host Sonia Kruger delivered the verdict, the former soccer player and gym teacher said he was “overwhelmed.”

‘Oh my God! I never, ever expected this from the start. I’m just blown away. Thank you so much. Wow. Thank you,’ Lachie exclaimed.

His warning rings true because while some singing show winners, like Australian Idol’s Guy Sebastian, have gone on to have successful music careers, many others are fading from the limelight, like 2021 winner of The Voice Bella Taylor Smith.

Lachie’s coach, British singer Rita Ora, praised him for his talent and thanked Australia for their support.

‘You’ve done all this. Australia, thank you, I love you. I feel like this is just the beginning for you. Congratulations. I’m so happy for you I can’t breathe!’ she gushed.

From the very beginning, Rita was determined to get the talented Lachie on her team, believing him to be in a ‘class of his own’.

The pair sang Lady Gaga’s hit Always Remember Us This Way during the finale.

After giving the strongest indication yet that Ukraine’s counter-offensive is imminent, President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday urged his compatriots to personally thank the volunteers and soldiers who fought against Russian troops, as a sign of how grim could be the next phase of the war.

Mr. Zelensky mentioned more than a dozen soldiers by name, noting that in his late-night speeches he usually thanked specific units or brigades. But Saturday’s address was, he said, a collection of “more personal words of gratitude to certain warriors.”

His plea to thank soldiers, if only on social media, followed similar statements from his top military commanders, who said they were ready for the counter-offensive despite a lack of air defense systems. And his defense minister rejected peace talks at a summit of military officials in Singapore on Saturday. Ukraine has also become bolder, attacking behind Russian lines in recent months, another sign of the war’s changing tone.

Earlier on Saturday, The Wall Street Journal published a interview with Mr. Zelensky saying that Ukraine was ready for the counter-offensive, but warned that “a large number of soldiers will die” because Russia maintains the upper hand in the air force. In addition to the billions of dollars in military aid and advanced weapons that Ukraine has already received from the United States and Europe, Mr. Zelensky is urging his allies to more air defense systems and F-16 fighter jets.

And Ukraine continues to reject proposals for peace talks without Russia withdrawing its troops from occupied territories first. The latest proposal was made by Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian Defense Minister, on Saturday at the international meeting in Singapore.

Mr Zelensky’s remarks were published a week after Ukraine’s top military commander signaled that the counter-offensive was about to begin, which analysts said may have already begun in some form. It is likely centered in southern Ukraine and focused on land routes between Russia and Crimea, the Ukrainian territory Moscow illegally annexed in 2014.

“There is no perfect time to launch the Ukrainian offensives, but there will be a time that is optimal for the preparations of the Ukrainian armed forces and when they are most able to exploit Russian weaknesses,” said Mick Ryan, a military analyst and retired Australian general. wrote Sunday on Twitter. “That time is near.”
