She reached Dublin Top among her admirers thanks to a smart but distinctive look as superstars such as Luke Littler battled it out.

Darts enthusiasts went from nerd to cheeky when they swapped talk of feather tips for leather jokes about Paton’s outfit.

“WOW WOW!!!!!! Emma Paton looks absolutely gorgeous and incredible as usual in leather pants!!!!” was a typical judgment from viewers.

The 30-year-old has even received light-hearted marriage proposals online, helped by her cheerful smile and sleek fashion.

And as the Premier League continues to grow in popularity, it has been dubbed ‘incredible’ and ‘absolutely brilliant’.

Many fans would give a pitcher’s arm or leg to see her on their screens more often.

But Paton is already a multi-sport presenter and has also featured in Sky Sports News’ transfer deadline day coverage, WWE and tennis at the US Open.

That’s after seven years in a more backroom role as a Sky journalist, before switching to presenting in 2019.

Now she is welcomed by many dart fans as joyfully as a nine-darter.

“Standing and clapping when Emma Paton is on my screen,” said one enthusiast on Thursday evening.

And her social media following continues to rise, rising from 3,000 on Instagram alone in the past month to 185,000.

Yes, that’s right – in terms of thousands of fans, she has done better than “ONE-HUNDRED-AND-EIGHTY”!

Initially, everything seemed to be going smoothly in the build-up to Friday night’s clash, with 32,970 people watching Hayes’ final WSL match at Stamford Bridge.

But the match was unexpectedly disrupted due to a kit clash with both sides wearing the same color socks.

Before kick-off, Arsenal’s players put on the white and red socks they wore with their home kit

And they were featured in it during the warm-up prior to the match’s scheduled start at 7 p.m.

But three minutes before the game started, the visitors were told they were not allowed to wear them.

This was because the color clashed with the socks worn by their hosts.

The scenario required the Gunners to purchase Chelsea’s blue and black away boots from the club’s store.

But the north London giants had to cover the Nike logo on the socks with gray tape because the club was sponsored by Adidas.

The clothing dispute sparked a stunned reaction among some observers, with former Chelsea chief executive Karen Carney describing the scenario as “embarrassing”.

However, Hayes insisted it was a “serious mistake” and hopes the Arsenal kitman is not thrown under the bus.

The Blues chief said: “Because of who I am, I’m not going to throw the equipment guy under the bus. He’s going to feel terrible tonight.

“It’s a mistake anyway, he’s new in this position. It happened.

“If we had had blue socks, and if this had been an away game, we would have had white and blue socks.

“But because it was a home game, we knew three weeks in advance that we would wear white socks, we are the home team.

“But because we didn’t have blue, I couldn’t just say don’t worry about it, we’ll put on the blue socks because we didn’t have them.

“We are also at a time – and God knows why – when they have taken everything out. There’s a whole process to all that.

“It is a serious mistake. I’m certainly not going to target him.”

The hosts needed just thirty-two minutes to race into a 3-0 lead, resulting in a six-point lead over the Gunners in the league.

Arsenal were at times overwhelmed by the efficient combination of James, Nusken and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd.

On the Gunners wearing Chelsea socks, Hayes added: “I was delighted when I saw lion heads on Arsenal’s legs in the first half.

“Maybe that gave my players motivation, I don’t know.”

Before the match, Hayes said she demanded a “Chelsea standard” performance from her side

And that’s exactly what she got when the team was 3-0 up after 32 minutes.

Lauren James opened the scoring with 13e goal in 14 top games this season.

The forward ran onto Nusken’s pass and misplaced her markers, shooting over goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger in the 15th minute.

The visitors’ difficult start was made worse when Nusken fired the ball past Arsenal’s shot-stopper just six minutes later.

And the Gunners were caught out again when Rytting Kaneryd pounced on the ball after Leah Williamson’s free-kick before making a powerful run into the box.

And her attempt was deflected home via Nusken.

In the second half, Alessia Russo, Frida Maanum and Emily Fox were introduced in place of Steph Catley, Victoria Pelova and Stina Blackstenius.

They had a free-kick fired to Hannah Hampton with 29 minutes of normal time, shortly before James forced an impressive save from Zinsberger.

The visitors received a late consolation when Kim Little’s goal was deflected off Catarina Macario.

The defeat for Eidevall's side saw the Blues open a six-point lead over the Gunners

But the WSL leaders held on to seal victory, denting Arsenal’s title hopes.

Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall said: “We should be unhappy with the way we performed as a team because that is not our level.

“I have to take responsibility for that, we have to learn from that and we have to go next week.”

Luke Littler put on a show on the oche as he beat Michael van Gerwen 6-2, taking the win in no time with a nine-darter.

But he fell to Nathan Aspinall in the semi-finals, who in turn lost 6-3 to world number 1 Luke Humphries in the final.

But Paton almost stole the show as she dazzled on stage in a daring outfit.

She opted for a black blazer over a low-cut top with matching slit pants and heels with her hair in a ponytail.

And the song went down a storm with fans watching the Sky Sports action from home.

One said: “Good evening Emma Paton.”

Another wrote: “Emma Paton is incredible.”

A third added: “Emma Paton looks absolutely fantastic on the darts tonight!! An absolute blast!”

A fourth commented: “Emma Paton Thursday.”

Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos already have a third film together in the making.

Following the critical acclaim of their feature films The Favorite (2018) and Poor Things (2023), for which she earned her second Best Actress Oscar on Sunday, Searchlight Pictures announced that the pair will have an anthology film in theaters on June 21.

While the plot of their upcoming project is being kept under wraps, the film, directed by Lanthimos, will star Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie and Hunter Schafer.

At the Golden Globes, he said Deadline That Kinds of Kindness consists of ‘three contemporary stories, and there is a core of actors – seven in total – who play one character in each story.’

“So they’ll be playing three different characters,” he told the outlet in January.

Poor Things grossed an impressive $108.7 million worldwide and earned four Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Stone’s performance as Bella Baxter, Makeup and Hair Styling, Costume Design and Production Design.

Meanwhile, The Favorite took home $95 million worldwide and Olivia Colman scored her Oscar for Best Actress.

While accepting her award this weekend, Stone admitted that she recently started to “freak out” when thinking about the possibility of receiving the honor.

‘Yorgos [Lanthimos] said to me, please get yourself out of it,” Stone told viewers. “And he was right, because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.”

She also thanked Lanthimos for giving her “the gift of a lifetime” in starring “in Bella Baxter.”

Last year, during an interview with Stone, Lanthimos revealed why he enjoyed working with Stone Entertainment weekly.

‘Besides she’s a great actress, [Emma] is a very unique presence overall,” he told the outlet. “And as soon as I told her the story, she was immediately excited and just wanted to know everything about the world and read the script.”

“So that’s how she became a producer on the film too, because she was there so early and involved in every aspect of it that it was inevitable that she took on that role as well,” he added.

After receiving eight nominations over the course of 24 years, Christopher Nolan finally took home the Academy Award for Best Director last night.

The British-American director, 53, who is now based in Los Angeles, appeared emotional as he delivered his heartwarming acceptance speech for his blockbuster Oppenheimer.

Having thanked Universal Studios and his ‘incredible’ cast and crew, the father-of-four moved his focus to his wife Emma Thomas, who has produced all of his films.

He said: ‘Thank you for those who have been there for me and believed in me my whole career […]

‘My family and the incredible Emma Thomas – the producer of all our films and producer of all our children. I love you.’

The Oppenheimer director married his university sweetheart Emma Thomas in 1997 and the couple share four children. He has previously said he fell in love with his wife at first sight.

Christopher and Emma’s eldest daughter Flora, 23, made a brief appearance in his latest film as a woman whose face melted off in a nuclear blast.

But Flora isn’t the only Nolan child who has followed her parents into the creative arts – with her brothers Oliver, Rory and Magnus all having made cameos in at least one of Nolan’s films.

Despite their parents’ high profile in Hollywood, the children side-stepped the red carpet at last night’s Oscars – but were pictured sitting beside them during the ceremony and watching Christopher’s speech with pride.

Here FEMAIL delves into Christopher Nolan’s family life – after the director praised his wife and four children for their unwavering support.

‘Incredible’ producer wife Emma Thomas

Christopher Nolan met his wife Emma Thomas on their first day as students at University College London in 1989.

Emma was born in London but spent time living in the Middle East as a child as a result of her father’s work in the Civil Service.

Christopher and Emma – who studied English Literature and Ancient History – were placed in the same halls of residence and arranged movie screenings as part of their work with UCL’s Film Society.

In 2017, the director was granted an honorary doctorate and told graduating students: ‘We have four children. We have a body of work that we have made together.

‘So the moral of the story is: pay a lot of attention to who you meet on your first night at your halls of residence.’

During his Desert Island Discs interview in 2008, Christopher said: ‘I’ve come to believe in the concept of love at first sight because I realise it actually happened to me.’

In 2001, the couple welcomed their daughter Flora together – just one year before the critically acclaimed film Insomnia, starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams, hit screens.

The same year they became parents, the couple opened their own production company Syncopy Films.

Although the couple are fiercely private, they have shed light on their relationship in previous interviews.

In an interview with Variety, Emma gushed about her husband’s most ‘underrated’ quality.

She replied: ‘He’s funny! People think he’s dead serious, they accuse his films of also being so serious.

‘Even in Oppenheimer there are moments I find funny, even in the actor’s expressions. There is humour in his movies, and I don’t think he gets enough credit for it.’

In an interview with Screen Daily in 2018, Emma shed light on their creative partnership and detailed how she’ll often give her husband books she thinks could be adapted on screen.

Pictured: the couple attending the Oppenheimer premiere in Leicester Square in London in July 2023

She joked: ‘Yes, I’ll continue to give him books and he’ll continue to not be excited by some.’

In 2018, Christopher said he enjoys working with Emma and writing scripts with his brother because their ‘only agenda is making the best film possible’.

During his appearance on Desert Island Discs, the director – who was promoting Dunkirk at the time – said the key to his success was ‘surrounding yourself with the people who understand and support what it is you’re trying to do, but are unafraid to criticise… You’re looking for honest feedback without an agenda.’

What’s more, Christopher has also previously credited his wife for coming out with the ‘correct answer’ regarding the end of the 2010 movie Inception.

Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Christopher explained how he was constantly being asked if Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Cobb was still dreaming at the end when the movie first came out.

Praising his wife’s interpretation, Christopher said: ‘I think it was Emma who pointed out the correct answer, really, is that the character, Leo’s character – the point of the shot is the character doesn’t care at that point. It’s not a question I comfortably answer.’

The couple’s eldest child Flora appears to be following her parents into the creative industry – having studied Collaborative Arts at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Flora supported her father last year when she made a fleeting appearance in Oppenheimer as a woman who is affected by a nuclear bomb.

In June 2023, Christopher revealed that he cast Flora as a woman whose face melts off in Oppenheimer in the wake of a nuclear bomb explosion.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the director explained: ‘We needed someone to do that small part of a somewhat experimental and spontaneous sequence. So it was wonderful to just have her sort of roll with it.’

Although Christopher admitted that the casting may have seemed strange at first, the director said watching his daughter play that part brought the subject matter really hit home for him.

He added: ‘The point is that if you create the ultimate destructive power it will also destroy those who are near and dear to you.

‘I suppose this was my way of expressing that in what, to me, were the strongest possible terms.’

In an interview that appears on the university’s website, Flora revealed that she is also an aspiring filmmaker and credits her father for showing her how to film on Super 8 movie film.

She said: ‘My dad taught me how to shoot on Super 8 when I was younger and I’ve been into it ever since. I just love the way it looks.

‘Shooting on film has given me a really great understanding of light and colour and I would love to shoot on larger format if I get a chance.’

What’s more, she also revealed that she is following in her mother’s footsteps by producing a short film with two friends.

On top of this, Flora is also an aspiring musician – and detailed in the interview how she likes to layer ‘ambient sounds’ in her productions.

She added: ‘I’ll record the birds outside or rain or people talking and use that as a starting point. I love singing and it just feels like a really interesting tool to use.

‘There are a lot of ways you can sample and chop up the human voice to create all kinds of sounds.’

Following in his big sister’s footsteps, aspiring photographer Magnus Nolan, 15, also made a brief appearance in one of his father’s films.

When he was a toddler, Christopher and Emma’s son played James Cobb in Inception.

He only appeared in fleeting moments in the film and was seen from the back playing on a beach in Cobb’s memory.

What’s more, Magnus’ father has been especially supportive of his dream of becoming a photographer.

In June 2023, Wired magazine published a profile of Christopher Nolan featuring only images his son had taken.

The following month, Magnus travelled to China with his father to promote Oppenheimer.

The aspiring photographer also walked the BAFTAs red carpet with his parents in London last month.

Like Magnus and Flora, Rory Nolan has also made a cameo in his parents’ films.

Christopher and Emma’s son is credited as the ‘boy on the bridge’ in the 2014 movie Interstellar.

In The Dark Knight Rises, Rory appeared as ‘the boy on the bus’ during one of Batman’s battles.

According to Screen Rant, Nolan names the working titles of his films after his children and The Dark Knight rises was dubbed ‘Rory’s First Kiss’.

The publication reports that Inception was dubbed ‘Oliver’s Arrow’ for a time while Interstellar had the working title of ‘Flora’s Letter’.

In 2006, Christopher and Emma’s eldest son Oliver was only a baby when he appeared in their film The Prestige, starring Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman and Michael Cane.

While promoting Oppenheimer, Christopher shed light on a conversation he’d had with his children about the film.

Speaking to Wired, the director said: ‘I told one of my sons about it as I started to write it, and he literally said to me: “But nobody really worries about that anymore.”

‘Two years later, he’s not saying that. The world’s changed again. And that’s a lesson for all of us, but particularly for the young. The world changes fast.’

As well as paying tribute to his wife in his BAFTA acceptance speech last night, Nolan also recognised campaigning groups who have ‘fought long and hard to reduce the number of nuclear weapons’.

He added: ‘In accepting this I do just want to acknowledge their efforts and point out they show the necessity and potential of efforts for peace.’

Oppenheimer won a whopping seven Oscars at Sunday night’s Academy Awards – while rival Barbie only won one.

The historical epic directed by Christopher Nolan swept the major categories with wins for Best Actor Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor Robert Downey Jr. and Nolan – with the film also winning Best Picture.

In contrast, Barbie, who memorably won against Oppenheimer in the ‘Barbenheimer’ box office showdown over the summer, walked away with just one award for Best Original Song for What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish and Finneas McConnell.

Downey Jr. jokingly thanked his ‘terrible childhood’ as he finally won an Oscar for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss, was delighted as he took to the stage –  after host Jimmy Kimmel made a very awkward quip about his drug use.

The veteran actor – who has acted for over five decades –  took home the Academy Award over stiff competition including Sterling K. Brown, American Fiction, Robert De Niro, Killers of the Flower Moon, Ryan Gosling, Barbie, and Mark Ruffalo, Poor Things.

He continued: 'Here's my little secret. I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris knew it, Emma made sure that she surrounded me with one of the great casts and crews of all time, Emily, Cillian, it was fantastic

The talented star took to the podium to showcase his signature wit and even joked about his ‘terrible childhood’ while accepting the honor.

He said: ‘Thank you, thank you. Ah — thanks, Sam, thanks, fellas. You only flubbed one line. I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and The Academy, in that order.

‘I’d like to thank my — veterinarian — I meant wife, Susan Downey over there. She found me a snarling rescue pet and you loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here. Thank you.’

The talented actor went on talk about how much he needed his role in Oppenheimer while thanking director Christopher Nolan and castmates Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy.

It was a night of high glamour – diamonds, couture dresses and A-listers – and should have been the usual spectacle of very rich, very beautiful and very talented artists congratulating each other on a good year for cinema.

Everyone expected that the Barbenheimer boost, which saw the box office soaring, would have a knock on effect and produce a vintage Oscars.

But with nudity, jokes about incest, political controversy and plain old bad taste, plus a hefty dollop of angst about wars, was this the night that the Oscars fumbled the ball?

There was instant outrage when Native American actress Lily Gladstone failed to win for her performance as Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon and even the climax of the night, the announcement of Best Picture, seemed to go awry.

Veteran actor Al Pacino, 83, seemed to struggle to stay on script in a short preamble, before opening his envelope and saying: ‘My eyes see Oppenheimer.’ That brought nervous giggles from some quarters of the auditorium.

It was Oppenheimer’s night with the film taking seven Oscars having been nominated for 13.

There were gasps in the room when Emma Stone’s name was read out as Best Actress at the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday

Conversely it was a bad night for Barbie, which had eight nominations but came away with just one award, for the song What Was I Made For, by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell.

Despite a barnstorming performance of I’m Just Ken by Ryan Gosling, which saw many of the A-listers in the room joining in with the song, and despite its colossal financial success, it was largely shut out.

Was one Oscar Kenough reward for the biggest film of the year which was very clearly popular in the room?

It was an even worse night for Maestro, Bradley Cooper’s passion project about the composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein. Maestro was nominated for seven Oscars and came away without a single one. Cooper was also beaten once again in the race for Best Actor, at the third time of asking.

Cooper also had to endure some bad-taste teasing from host Jimmy Kimmel about his habit of bringing his devoted mother Gloria as his date to awards.

Kimmel said: ‘Bradley brings his mother to every awards show. How any times can you bring your mom as your date before you are dating your mom? Are you working on a movie about Freud right now and not telling us?’

He is dating supermodel Gigi Hadid but the couple didn’t make any appearances together at pre-Oscars parties and opted not to go to the Vanity Fair party either.

There were some moments of delight, such as a cut away showing Messi the dog, a star of Anatomy of a Fall ‘clapping’, and some found John Cena’s naked sketch funny.

Actor and former wrestler Cena came on naked aside from a strategically placed gold envelope to announce the winner of the Costume Design Oscar.

The first Oppen-Oscar went to Robert Downey Jr., who won best supporting actor just as had been predicted and made a gracious, gag-filled speech.

He said: ‘I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and The Academy, in that order. I’d like to thank my — veterinarian — I meant wife, Susan Downey over there. She found me a snarling rescue pet and you loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here. Thank you.’

He went on: ‘Here’s my little secret. I needed this job more than it needed me. (Director) Chris (Nolan) knew it, (producer) Emma (Thomas) made sure that she surrounded me with one of the great casts and crews of all time, Emily, Cillian, it was fantastic.

‘And I stand here before you a better man because of it. What we do is meaningful, and the stuff that we decide to make is important.’

He shrugged off the outrage which greeted a drug gag seemingly improvised by host Kimmel after Downey Jr. touched his nose during his opening monologue. He had also looked unamused when Kimmel asked him: ‘Is that an acceptance speech in your pocket or do you just have a very rectangular penis?

Cillian Murphy became the first Irish-born winner of a Best Actor Oscar and won a standing ovation from the crowd which made him chuckle in delight. He said: ‘It’s been the wildest most exhilarating most creatively satisfying ride.’

Addressing director Chris Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas he said: ‘I owe you so much thank you. I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight.

‘You know we made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb for better or for worse. We are all living in Oppenheimer’s world so I would really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere.’

Accepting an Oscar for directing, Nolan paid tribute to his cast and crew. He added: ‘Thank you do those who have been there for me and believed in me for my whole career, the incredible Emma Thomas, the producer of all our films and all our children, I love you.

‘To the Academy. Just to say movies are just over 100 years old. Imagine being there 100 years into theatre or painting and we don’t know where we are going to go, but to know that you think I am a meaningful part of it means the world to me.’

Cinematography went to Hoyte van Hoytema, previously nominated for Christopher Nolans film Dunkirk. From the stage van Hoytema said: ‘Woah, steady. To all the aspiring film makers out there I would like to say please try shooting that incredible hip new thing celluloid.. it makes things look so much better.’

Jennifer Lame won achievement in film editing for Oppenheimer. She said: ‘Emma Thomas you amaze me… Chris Nolan you are okay too. I was terrified when you first hired me but you instilled so much confidence in me.’

She later said: ‘So many people came to me and didn’t think the film was too long even though it was three hours. I have so many favorite scenes with Cillian. I was mesmerized by his performance. You wanted to know who he was even though he is inscrutable.’

Ludwig Goransson won best original score for Oppenheimer. He said that it had been Nolan’s idea to use a violin as the motif. He thanked his parents for giving him guitars and drum machines instead of video games.

The best picture Oscar was accepted by Nolan’s wife Emma Thomas.

She said: ‘All of us who make movies know that you dream of this moment. I could deny it but I have been dreaming of this for so long and now it has happened. The reason that this is the movie that it is, is Chris Nolan he is singular and he is brilliant and I am so grateful to you.’

There were gasps in the room when Emma Stone’s name was read out as Best Actress for her fearless performance as Bella Baxter in Poor Things. It had been a neck and neck actress race between Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon and Emma Stone for Poor Things, but many felt that Gladstone was going to clinch the statuette.

Stone, who previously won for LaLa Land, said that she was overwhelmed and added that the zip on her dress had broken, adding: ‘I think it happened during “I’m Just Ken.”‘

She went on: ‘This is really overwhelming. Sorry. My voice has gone.

‘The other night I was panicking as you can see it happens a lot and Yorgos said to me please take yourself out of it and he’s right its not about me its about a team that came together to make something that is greater than the sum of its parts. Yorgos thank you for the gift of a lifetime in Bella Baxter.’

The cerebral epic about the life of Robert J Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, didn’t have everything go its way.

Notably it lost out out on the sound Oscar to The Zone of Interest, a British film about the Holocaust in which the murders in Auschwitz are conveyed only as background noises.

It also lost out on Costume Design and Hair and Makeup to the Yorgos Lanthimos sex comedy Poor Things.

Some of the most surprising results saw Barbie lose out on production design and costume design. More predictably, Ryan Gosling was shut out in favor of Robert Downey Jr, and Oppenheimer won Best Picture.

Kimmel said in his opening monologue: ‘Here we are, all dressed up, celebrating the best of the best, beginning with the biggest movie of the year, Barbie. Barbie was a monster hit.

‘What a thing. What an achievement to take a plastic doll nobody even liked anymore, I mean, my wife, before this movie, you would had a better chance getting my wife to buy my daughter a pack of Marlboro Reds than a Barbie doll.

‘Now Barbie is a feminist icon, thanks to Greta Gerwig, who many believed deserved to nominated for best director tonight.

‘Hold on a second. I know you’re clapping, but you’re the ones who didn’t vote for her, by the way. Don’t act like you had nothing to do with this.’

The hostilities in Gaza were on the minds of many on Sunday night, with some attendees having to walk the final few yards to the venue after pro-Palestinian protestors closed some roads. Pop star and actress Ariana Grande was among those to be held up. Singer Billie Eilish wore a pin supporting efforts to bring peace.

Accepting the Oscar for documentary feature film 20 Days in Mariupol, Mstylslav Chernov said that this was the first Academy Award in Ukrainian film history.

He said: ‘I will probably be the first director on the stage to say I wish I had never made this film. I wish to exchange this (Oscar) for Russia never invading Ukraine, never occupying our cities, to Russia not killing tens of thousands of Ukrainians.’

He went on: ‘I cannot change history, cannot change the past. We can make sure that the history record is set straight and that the truth will prevail and the people of Mariupol and those who have given their lives will never be forgotten.’

Animated short film was won by War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko. Their son Sean Ono Lennon was an executive producer on the film which follows two soldiers on opposite sides of a battle playing chess while communicating through carrier pigeon.

Sean Ono Lennon flashed peace signs from the stage of the Dolby Theatre. He said: ‘My mom turned 91 last month and today is Mother’s Day in the UK, so can everyone please say happy mother’s day Yoko!’

Producer Dave Mullins said later: ‘We would like people to talk a little more, kill a little less, I know that sounds naïve.’

The first award of the night was presented to Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who won best actress in a supporting role for playing grieving mother Mary Lamb in The Holdovers.

In an emotional speech she thanked God, her drama teacher, her mother and her publicist, adding: ‘I am so grateful for all the women who have been by my side.’

She added: ‘You know, I… I didn’t think I was supposed to be doing this as a career. I started off as a singer. And my mother said to me, “Go across that street to that theater department. There’s something for you there.”

‘And I thank my mother for doing that. I thank you to all the people who have stepped in my path and has been there for me, who has ushered me and guided me.

‘I am so grateful to all of you beautiful people out there.

Leading actress Sandra Huller cried during a speech about the conflict in the Middle East

‘For so long I’ve always wanted to be different, and now I realize I just need to be myself. Ron Van Lieu, I thank you when I was the only black girl in that class, when you saw me and you told me I was enough.

‘And when I told you I don’t see myself, you said, ‘That’s fine. We’re going to forge our own path. You’re going to lay a trail for yourself.’

The best original screenplay went to Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet and Arthur Harari. Triet said: ‘Thank you so much, it will help me through my mid life crisis I think. This is a crazy year.

The glamour of tonight contrasts slightly with writing… I was stuck in the house with two kids it was lockdown. We hooked them up to cartoons to have peace.’ Harari added: ‘It was like mixed doubles ping pong played by neurotic French.’

Triet later said that they had wanted to have Dolly Parton’s song Jolene playing on repeat in the film but failed to get the rights so they ended up with the 50 Cent Song PIMP.

Best adapted screenplay was American Fiction – the first upset of the night, beating Barbie, Poor Things, Oppenheimer and The Zone of Interest.

Writer Cord Jefferson used the platform to make the case for lower budget films. ‘Instead of making one $200 million movie try making twenty $10 million movies.

‘I want other people to experience that joy. The next Scorsese is out there the next Greta (Gerwig) the next Christopher Nolan.

‘This has changed my life thank you for trusting a 40 year old black guy who has never directed a movie before.’

Afterwards he said that it had been important to show diversity within diversity in the film, which is about a professor who writes a satire of a ‘black’ book only for the liberal elite to hail it as a masterpiece.

He said: ‘As Victor Hugo said, nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come. We didn’t have a big marketing budget so we relied on word of mouth a lot.

‘Hopefully the lesson here is that there is an audience here for things that are different.

‘A story with black characters that is going to appeal to a lot of people doesn’t need to take place in a plantation in the projects to have drug dealers in it.’

Another surprise was the win for animated film The Boy and The Heron over Spider-man: Across The Spiderverse.

Poor Things won Best Make Up and Hairstyling, again a surprise as many had thought that this was Maestro’s best chance to convert one of its nominations into a win.

Production design – which many thought might go to Barbie- went to Poor Things. Accepting the Oscar, James Price said: ‘This is crazy! I feel in the mood for love and custard tarts.’

Again, many thought that Barbie would win costume design, and again this went to Poor Things.

The Zone of Interest – about Rudolf Hess and his family living just outside Auschwitz, was Britain’s interest in the best international film category and won.

Writer and director Jonathan Glazer said: ‘All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present, not to say look what they did then, but rather look what we do now.’ Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst.

‘It’s shaped all of our past and present. Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people.’

‘Whether the victims of October — whether the victims of October the 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization, how do we resist?’

Leading actress Sandra Huller cried copiously as he spoke.

Visual effects went to Oscar Godzilla Minus One. Documentary short film was won by The Last Repair Shop.

In January, she won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, beating Bening, Mulligan, Hüller, Priscilla‘S Cailee Spaeny And Past livesGreta Lee. The following month she defeated Stone, Bening, Mulligan and Barbie‘S Margot Robbie in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role category at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

“It’s so easy to distance yourself. It’s so easy to shut down, to stop feeling, and we all continue to feel courageously, and that makes people human. That brings people out of the shadows; it provides visibility,” Gladstone said in her SAG acceptance speech. “Thank you for all the compassionate souls in this room and all the storytellers here tonight. Keep speaking your truths and standing up for each other.”

The 96th Academy Awards saw the best and biggest names in film descend upon The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on Sunday.

Oppenheimer won a whopping seven Oscars on the night – while rival Barbie only won one.

Meanwhile Emma Stone led Poor Things to an impressive four including her Best Actress win and UK film The Zone Of Interest won two at the gala event.

The historical epic directed by Christopher Nolan swept the major categories with wins for Best Actor Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor Robert Downey Jr. and Nolan – with the film also winning Best Picture.

Yet it wasn’t just the winners that made the headlines as there were plenty of emotional, hilarious, and incredible moments on stage as the stars celebrated the best films of 2023.

Now MailOnline takes a look back at the top viral moments of the Oscars 2024.

John Cena appeared on the stage at the 96th Academy Awards NAKED in a bit with host Jimmy Kimmel

John Cena appearing on stage NAKED

John Cena appeared on the stage naked in a bit with host Jimmy Kimmel.

The WWE star-action film staple, 46, was summoned by Kimmel, who referenced the 50-year anniversary of a streaker named Robert Opel running onto the stage at the ceremony, interrupting late actor-presenter David Niven.

Kimmel, whose jokes about Robert Downey Jr. earlier in the evening landed flat, sought to summon the squared circle star onto the stage with the line, ‘Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today?’

‘I said, can you imagine if – a nude man ran across the stage today? Wouldn’t that be crazy?

Cena backstage then said: ‘Psst! Psst, Jimmy! Come here.’

Kimmel said: ‘I can’t come there – do the thing! Excuse me for a second. What’s going on? You’re supposed to run across the stage’ as Cena said: ‘Yeah, I – changed my mind. I don’t want to do the streaker bit.’

‘I just don’t feel right about it. It’s an elegant event, you know, you should feel shame right now for suggesting such a tasteless …’

Kimmel said: ‘You wrestle naked, why not?’ as Cena said of his trademark ring attire: ‘I don’t wrestle naked, I wrestle in jorts!’

Cena walked sideways onto the stage with the envelope for Best Costume Design covering his genitals. He said, ‘Costumes – they are so important – maybe the most important thing there is.’

He acknowledged that he was unable to open the envelope, at which point Kimmel took over.

Emma Stone calling Jimmy Kimmel a ‘p***k’

Emma Stone’s loyal fans were up in arms on Sunday night after the 2024 Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at her nominated film Poor Things.

Commenters on social media were convinced that the 35-year-old actress — who won Best Actress for the film —called Kimmel a ‘p***k’ over the snarky remark about the numerous sex scene in the Yorgos Lanthimos–directed science fantasy comedy.

The moment occurred after the Oscars aired a montage in tribute to the film, which is nominated for multiple honors, including Best Picture.

‘Those were all the parts of Poor Things we’re allowed to show on TV,’ the 56-year-old late night talk show host joked, referencing Emma’s sex scenes.

She didn’t look at all happy about the joke and wrinkled up her face as she turned to her husband Dave McCary to deliver the undecipherable line.

Despite the fact that Emma wasn’t audible, the vast majority of fans on social media thought she had called the comedian a ‘p***k’ for the jab.

‘Emma Stone’s reaction to Jimmy Kimmel’s joke about poor things.. oh YEAH,’ wrote one person on X (formerly Twitter).

‘Emma Stone calling Jimmy Kimmel a p***k [weeping emoji] oh clock that tea queen,’ joked another fan.

Another person seemed to agree: ‘Emma Stone says “He’s a p***k?”‘ they theorized.

Jimmy Kimmel BOMBS at Oscars

Elsewhere, Jimmy roasted Robert Downey Jr’s manhood and past drug use in his bombshell opening monologue – as well as upsetting actress Emma.

The host, 56, returning for the fourth time, left the A-listers grinning and cringing in equal measure as he took to the stage.

Downey Jr. 58, who won Best Supporting Actor for Oppenheimer was stony-faced as Kimmel made a crass joke at the start of the ceremony – referring to the reformed coke addict’s past addictions.

He said: ‘And Robert Downey Jr., one of the highest points of his career. But Robert has been’ – as RDJ pointed at his face, leading Kimmel to add: ‘Was that too on the nose or a drug motion you made?

‘But look at him, he’s so handsome, so talented, he’s won every award there is to win. Is that an acceptance speech in your pocket or do you just have a very rectangular penis?’

The joke fell flat as RDJ looked somber while staring at the camera while fans slammed Kimmel for his ‘bottom of the barrel’ jokes about substance abuse.

Emma Stone suffers wardrobe malfunction

Emma showed off her wardrobe malfunction on stage while accepting the Oscar for best actress for Poor Things.

As she prepared to accept the trophy, the 35-year-old Cruella star could be seen holding the back of her Louis Vuitton peplum dress, after her zipper busted down her back – following her shock win over Killers of the Flower Moon favorite Lily Gladstone, 37.

‘My dress is broken,’ she began while fighting through tears. ‘I think it happened during I’m Just Ken.’

Once she gained her composure, the performer made a rare remark about her family as she thanked her parents and brother, her husband and daughter.

While speaking directly about her little girl, Louise Jean McCary, the proud mother-of-one gushed she was going to ‘be three in three days’ and turned her ‘world technicolour.’

‘I love you bigger than the whole sky,’ she concluded quoting the Taylor Swift track Bigger Than The Whole Sky from her 2022 album, Midnights.

As she exited the stage, the two-time Golden Globe winner, who sported a 30-carat yellow diamond choker, held the clasp on the back and requested the audience to refrain from looking ‘at the back’ of her gown.

Oscar winners mayhem

Al Pacino announced Oppenheimer as the Best Picture winner without bothering to name all the other nominees while Emma Stone had an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction as the chaos toward the end of the Oscars broadcast took center stage on Hollywood’s biggest night.

Oppenheimer was the biggest winner of the night as it earned seven including top honor Best Picture and major wins for Cillian Murphy , Robert Downey Jr ., and Christopher Nolan while Emma led Poor Things to an impressive four including her Best Actress win and UK film The Zone Of Interest won two.

Even after the actress’ embarrassing moment with her dress, it was shaping up to be a decent end to the 96th annual Academy Awards telecast at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on Sunday until the Hollywood legend rushed through his presenting of the last award of the night.

The 83-year-old Scarface star hit the stage and made an awkward joke about performing Shakespeare before jumping straight to announcing the Best Picture winner.

He said: ‘Wow. What — thank you. Oh, my friends. Thank you, thank you. I don’t know. Should I do some Shakespeare now? That’s in order, right? To be — no, I’m not going to do Sorry. Well, this is the time for the last award of the evening. And it’s my honor to present it.

‘Ten wonderful films are nominated, but only one will take the award for best picture. And I have to go to the envelope for that. And I will. Here it comes. And my eyes see Oppenheimer, yes!’

Social media was buzzing with posts about the awkward end to the show as one commented that Pacino’s announcement ‘couldn’t have been more chaotic or confusing.’

Ryan Gosling performs Barbie hit ‘I’m Just Ken’

Ryan Gosling brought the ‘Kenergy’ as he performed nominated track I’m Just Ken at Sunday’s Oscars.

The Best Supporting Actor nominee, 43, donned a sparkling pink suit as he exuded confidence onstage – accompanied by his Barbie co-stars and Guns N Roses guitarist Slash, 58.

Gosling started off his performance wearing shades and sat in the audience alongside Barbie star Margot Robbie, 33, as she giggled.

He then prowled his way to the stage where he joined a host of tuxedo clad back-up dancers.

Tenderly stroking their faces he was picked up and twirled in the air by the dancers before joining co-stars including Simu Liu onstage.

The star was then joined by Slash, 58, who made a surprise appearance before the actor hit a killer last note.

Gosling also enjoyed a reunion with his La La Land co-star Emma Stone as he serenaded her while walking into the audience.

Fans quickly noticed a similarity between Gosling’s performance and Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Gentleman Prefer Blondes scene in 1953 in which she performed Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.
