Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has shared a message of support for Kate Middleton following her shock cancer diagnosis.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, shared the news in a video shared online on Friday evening, UK time.

She explained that following her planned abdominal surgery in January, further tests had revealed the presence of cancer cells and she was now undergoing preventive chemotherapy treatment.

The princess, 42, did not reveal which form of cancer she was battling.

In a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Albanese praised the royal family’s “extraordinary courage” shown in its public statement.

“My thoughts, and those of Australians, are with the Princess of Wales and her family following the news of her cancer diagnosis,” he said.

“The Princess of Wales has shown extraordinary courage today with her public statement expressing her concern for others.”

Kate’s announcement follows weeks of increasingly feverish speculation about her whereabouts, spurred by a heavily edited photo of the princess and her children shared by Kensington Palace to mark Mother’s Day in Britain.

The photo was published by most major news agencies but was killed within 24 hours, with the Associated Press saying it appeared the source had doctored the photo.

Kate later issued a statement saying that, like many amateur photographers, she enjoyed experimenting with editing and apologized for any confusion.

The princess did not comment on the speculation in her video and instead focused on those who had shown her family support as she began the early stages of treatment.

“I just wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank you for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding while I was recovering from surgery,” she said at the start of the clip.

‘It’s been an incredibly tough few months for our whole family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.’

She said that while the diagnosis had come as a “shock” to her and her family, she felt “stronger every day” and asked for privacy as she continued treatment.

“I am doing well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirit,” she said.

‘Having William by my side is also a great source of comfort and reassurance. As does the love, support and kindness shown by so many of you. It means so much to both of us.

‘We hope you understand that we as a family now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.”

She concluded with a message of support to others battling cancer, urging them not to lose hope.

“You’re not alone,” she said.

  • A Reddit user wrote about her encounter with a server while she and her three-year-old son were in a chocolate shop
  • She and her son got free hot chocolate while they were there
  • The pair attended a doctor’s appointment earlier that day

A mother left a chocolate shop with a smile on her face thanks to the unconditional kindness of a waitress.

The woman created a Reddit post yesterday telling her story about what happened when she and her three-year-old son went to buy hot chocolate.

She and her son had just completed a doctor’s appointment, during which the doctor referred them to a speech therapist.

‘I had a really bad day with my three-year-old son who has autism. We went for a walk and he was cold, so I said we were going to get some hot chocolate.” she wrote.

The pair walked into ‘a little shop’ and ordered two small hot chocolates.

They both met their server and he tried to communicate with the three year old.

“The man said hello to my son, who is non-verbal, and did not respond,” she wrote.

‘He said again: hey little man! And my son turned his head. I looked at him and said, ‘Sorry, he’s non-verbal, he doesn’t talk.’

Once her son wanted to get out of his stroller, it became more difficult for the mother to cope.

‘Over there [were] no tables inside so I couldn’t take it out. “I felt other customers’ eyes on me and saw a woman whispering to her friend and they looked at me together,” she wrote.

Her son quickly changed his attitude after the waiter gave him a special treat.

The waiter walked over from behind the counter and handed the little boy “a cup of mini marshmallows.”

The little boy quickly calmed down and the waiter told the original poster (OP) that she looked like she was “struggling.”

“He handed me a large hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, and when I said I was only asking for a small one, he said it was on the house,” she wrote.

“I tried to pay him anyway, and he said no, seriously, it’s okay. Enjoy your hot chocolate.”

The woman, who was having an overwhelming day, started crying outside after his act of kindness.

The waiter saw the mother crying outside and even offered her tissues and a table that had been cleared.

“I declined, but thanked him for being so kind, and he said you never know what someone is going through, so always be kind,” she wrote.

The OP revealed in a response that she couldn’t remember the name of the chocolate shop, but she might go back there someday.

Since she posted her heartwarming story, other Reddit users have left positive comments and stories about their experiences with servers or autistic children.

“When my husband and I were homeless, there was a barista at Starbucks who would always look out for us whenever we came in for something to eat or drink,” said one Reddit user.

“People like that have really restored my faith in humanity.”

Other users passed on their well wishes to the mother, with one person writing in his comment that “everything will be fine.”

“I would really like to leave a good review or SOMETHING to reward this company for something we all needed at some point,” one user commented on the post.

“Be the kindness you want to see in the world, even if it never changes.”

Finally it seemed like everything was back to normal.

As nearly 3,000 delegates filed into Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on Tuesday for the opening of China’s annual legislative assembly, no one wore a face mask. Officials crowded together to shake hands and pose for photos. Around them, reporters and diplomats from around the world milled around the cavernous lobby, many invited for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic four years earlier.

It was one of China’s most prominent political stages, and the message sent was clear: the country’s long isolation was over, the country was once again open to the world and ready for business.

But normal has a different meaning in today’s China than before. And beneath the veneer of openness were signs of how much China has changed in the past four years: It is more insular, more disciplined and more closely tied to the one-man rule of its top leader, Xi Jinping.

To gain access to the Great Hall, where China’s most important political meetings take place, attendees still had to take a government-arranged Covid test. Unlike previous years, when a report detailing the government’s annual economic growth target was made public at the start of the opening ceremony, this year it was initially shared only with delegates and diplomats.

In perhaps the biggest departure from previous years, officials announced that China’s premier, the country’s No. 2 official, would no longer answer questions at the end of the weeklong legislative session. It was the end of a three-decade tradition, one of the few opportunities for journalists to interact with a top leader.

“That’s where the prime minister’s press conference used to be,” a Chinese man in a suit pointed out to another in a low voice on Tuesday as they walked through the room.

Guides with that kind of insider knowledge are important at Chinese political events like this, where the events are so tightly choreographed that a casual observer might not know that things haven’t always been this way.

At 9 a.m., as a light sleet fell outside, dozens of delegates sat in neat rows on the stage, against a backdrop of towering red curtains. Together with the other delegates sitting below them, they sang the national anthem.

When the Prime Minister, Li Qiang, then took the stage to give his summary of the government’s achievements over the past year, they dutifully pored over their paper copies of his report. This year, reporters did not receive copies of the report until halfway through Mr. Li’s speech.

Above the stage, the venue’s expansive balconies were filled with Chinese and foreign journalists positioning cameras, taking notes and peering through binoculars at the officials far below.

But many of the foreign journalists were only allowed into the country on temporary visas because China has been slow to issue or deny long-term visas to many Western news organizations. In 2020, many American journalists were deported, and last year even some foreign journalists with valid long-term visas were not allowed into the legislature.

In Mr. Li’s nearly hour-long speech, he repeatedly paid tribute to Mr. Xi, who sat in the center of the second row. Mr. Xi, unlike everyone else on stage, barely touched his copy of the work report. Every now and then he sipped from one of the two teacups ready for him. (For most of his early years in power, Mr. Xi had just one cup at the opening ceremony, as did the other delegates. But in recent years, Mr. Xi, who has steadily consolidated power around him, has had two had.)

Mr Li acknowledged the challenges China faces, including a debt-laden real estate sector and weak consumer demand. This is all part of why China is now so keen to project openness, as it seeks to attract foreign investors and reassure domestic entrepreneurs.

“We must communicate the policy to the public in a targeted manner to create a stable, transparent and predictable policy environment,” Mr Li said.

But you only had to step outside the room to see why many are suspicious of such promises. Information about and from the government has become increasingly limited as China has expanded its definition of espionage to include even routine interactions with foreigners as potentially dangerous. Restrictions on both the Chinese and foreign press have been tightened.

Days before the opening ceremony, the Foreign Correspondents Club of China said a journalist from Dutch broadcaster NOS was pushed to the ground by police officers in a city in southwestern China while interviewing people there; so was the incident captured on camera. In the days before the rallies, police cars with flashing lights regularly appeared on street corners across Beijing, and volunteers wearing red armbands kept watch for potential troublemakers.

On Tuesday, officials had organized a series of question-and-answer sessions with a number of pre-selected deputies and ministers — sessions that, officials said, helped justify the cancellation of the prime minister’s traditional press conference. In the lobby of the Great Hall, these officials answered carefully worded questions from state media on topics such as how Chinese-made cars could be promoted abroad and how the Chinese people had benefited from government investments in water conservation infrastructure.

One of the elected delegates came from Henan province, home to a major archaeological site called Yinxu. When he had to ask a question, a reporter from a Communist Party newspaper asked him, “Recently, Yinxu’s achievements in archeology have attracted a lot of attention. Do you have any special feelings about the protection of cultural artifacts?”

Outside this carefully curated context, attempts to interview delegates were far less successful. Several officials, approached as they entered or left the chamber, refused to answer even simple questions, such as whether they had introduced legislative proposals this year, or even where they were from.

A typical conversation with a delegate whose name tag identified him as Wang Wenqiang, from Hebei Province, went as follows:

“Excuse me, have you made any proposals this year?”

“Not this year,” Mr. Wang replied as he walked toward the auditorium without breaking stride.

“Have you submitted proposals in the past?”

“Yes, last year.”

“What was it about?”

“People’s livelihood.”

“Can you be a little more specific?”

‘There’s someone waiting for me there. Sorry,” Mr. Wang said. And with that he disappeared.

Lizzie Cundy has paid tribute to The Office star Ewen MacIntosh after his death at the age of 50 was confirmed on Wednesday.

The Welsh actor became a household name after playing the impassive, Scottish egg-loving accountant Keith Bishop in the legendary Ricky Gervais sitcom The Office.

And Lizzie, 55, recalled her own fond memory of working with close friend MacIntosh after they were cast in a light-hearted music video for Chris Rea's festive song Driving Home For Christmas.

The song, originally a hit for Rea in 1988, was re-released as a digital download in 2009, with all proceeds going to registered tenant rights charity Shelter.

Cundy recalls the last-minute shoot at Shepperton Studios, where they were joined by Lionel Blair, Gail Porter, Mike Dean and T'Pau singer Carol Decker for a Christmas-themed video, and admits MacIntosh was a popular figure on set used to be.

She told MailOnline: “We just laughed and laughed all day. We thought, how can we believe that me and him are here in the actual pop video for Chris Rea, with so many big names? And there was me and Ewen.

'There was fake snow that kept getting stuck in his beard and hair and I kept telling him he had dandruff. Every time I danced and smiled, it went into my mouth and we laughed.”

She added: 'He was an absolutely beautiful person inside and out, completely humble and completely the opposite of what he could be. He spoke so well of everyone and loved each other Ricky Gervais. He was a cute, funny person. There's so much laughter.'

Cundy admits they also made fun of legendary entertainer Blair, who died in November 2021 at the age of 92.

She said: 'I pretended to be a very famous actress from America and Ewen supported me. Lionel completely believed it and then asked for my autograph, but Ewen was a great joker with a straight face, a great poker face and a lot of fun.'

MacIntosh was best known for his role as a Scotch egg-loving accountant in Gervais' hit sitcom, which became an instant comedy classic when it launched in 2001 and led to the creation of a successful American version.

The Welsh actor, who has also appeared in British comedies such as After Life, Miranda and Little Britain, had shared a photo of himself in hospital in February 2022 and told his fans that he was going through “bad times”.

His cause of death has not been confirmed, but friends praised the “empathy and incredible care” of medical staff and nurses. MacIntosh, who is survived by his parents and brother, is not believed to have married or had children.

As fans of The Office woke up to the devastating news, many pledged to have a Scotch egg in honor of the late actor.

And while many people were wrong, there were others who pointed out that Stuart looks MUCH younger than his wife – with one even saying he looks “12 years old”.

“Let me introduce you to my husband Stuart,” Abigail said in the next video, revealing the twins' father.

“He's 27 years old, not 12, and he's the father of our twins!”

“Looks like a teacher is dating her high school student,” someone commented on that clip.

As another said: “To be honest, he looks like your son!”

Abigail then responded in another video, as she said: “This has gone too far. I want you to be so real with me right now.

“Apparently everyone thinks my husband looks so young, so I know this will hurt my feelings, but how old do you think I look? Be so honest.

“Because if this is the truth, if people think I'm walking around with a child who is actually my husband, then divorce is the only option.”

She then added, “Now that I think about it, on two separate occasions people have asked me if I was my husband's mother!”

“You look about my age and I'm 27 but your husband looks like he's still in high school,” someone commented.

I'm 27 and my 'daughter' is six years younger than me – trolls say it's 'messed up' and 'weird'

“He looks like a late teenager but to be honest it's his dress code that makes him look younger,” said another.

A third agreed: “He looks young but it doesn't help that he's dressed like a frat boy!”

“YOU don't look old, he just looks like a teenager,” someone else wrote.

“It's not that you look old, it's that he looks incredibly young,” laughed another.

“Yes, in my opinion you look about ten years older, but you still wouldn't be his mother,” someone else said.

But others insisted people were being unfair when they said Stuart looked like Abigail's son.

“How the hell does he look like her son?” wrote one.

“They look like a cute couple and you can tell they clearly love each other!”

“I don't see it, but apparently the internet does,” Abigail replied.

“I'm not being funny but you both look the same age,” another insisted.

“So people are chatting!”

“Girl. You're beautiful. You look 24 and amazing,” someone else said.

“You both look 17 to me,” another added.

As Abigail replied, “The older I get, the more that's a compliment lol!”

Famously liberal San Francisco is irritable these days.

Poll after poll shows that residents lack confidence in the future of their city and do not support their leader, Mayor London Breed. They lament that their downtowns are not returning as quickly as other cities' cores after the pandemic, that drug overdose rates continue to rise and that property crime remains a persistent problem.

But what's not so clear is what kind of mayor they want to fix what's broken.

Mark Farrell, a venture capitalist who served as interim mayor for six months in 2018, believes he has the answer: a tough style of governance that would “massively” increase the ranks of police, clear all homeless encampments, lock up drug overdose victims who surviving and returning cars to the city's main road.

He will test his platform — which he calls common sense and his opponents will no doubt call too conservative for San Francisco — on the November ballot. Mr. Farrell, the city's 44th mayor, plans to announce Tuesday that he also wants to become its 46th mayor.

“I've watched San Francisco crumble over the last five years,” Farrell, 49, said recently over coffee at a downtown cafe. “Public safety has never been such a big issue. Conditions in our streets have never been worse. Our local economy has collapsed. And we've become the butt of jokes across the country.

“This mayor has completely let us down.”

Maggie Muir, a political adviser to Ms. Breed, accused Mr. Farrell of spending the pandemic years at his venture capital firm instead of helping the city get back on its feet.

“It's easy to run, but it's hard to lead,” Ms. Muir said. “Mayor Breed is the one who had to make the tough decisions and lead the city through the pandemic and its aftermath, while the others were nowhere to be seen.”

She said Ms. Breed's efforts were beginning to pay off: downtown began to come back and crime dropped.

There is no love lost between Mr. Farrell and Ms. Breed, also 49. In December 2017, when Mayor Ed Lee died of a heart attack, Ms. Breed became acting mayor as she chaired the Board of Supervisors.

But the majority of her colleagues, wanting to ensure that six months later she would not have the status of the incumbent president in the race to fill Mr. Lee's seat, voted to appoint Mr. Farrell as a supervisor overseeing wealthy neighborhoods Pacific Heights and Marina represented. , the city's short-term leader. After Ms. Breed won the race, Mr. Farrell returned to his previous job at Thayer Ventures, a San Francisco company that invests in travel and transportation companies.

If Mr. Farrell succeeds in ousting Ms. Breed again — this time through the action of voters, not that of his fellow politicians — it will indicate that San Francisco has moved from the left to much more centrist politics. That trend already seemed clear following the recall of far-left members of the school board and the city's district attorney, as well as the elections of several moderate members of the Board of Supervisors.

Ms. Breed, also a political moderate by San Francisco standards, seemed to sense the city's shifting political winds and has herself tacked to the right. She supports measures on the March ballot to expand police officers' access to surveillance cameras and drones and to require welfare recipients to be tested for drug use and to enter treatment if they test positive.

Ms. Breed has no challengers from her left yet. But Mr. Farrell's position is the furthest to the right — on San Francisco's narrow, very blue political spectrum — of anyone in the race. Every serious candidate, including Ms. Breed and Mr. Farrell, is a Democrat.

Mr. Farrell said San Francisco's plight — which is regularly criticized in local and national media, many residents wrongly believe — became clear to him about a year ago. He said he woke up one morning to find the dining room window in his home in Jordan Park, a wealthy neighborhood in the city's north, broken. Someone had entered the house while he, his wife, Liz Farrell, and their three children were sleeping and stole his laptop. The thief was never caught.

Mrs. Farrell, who was active in the campaign to recall District Attorney Chesa Boudin, said she supported her husband's return to the sometimes nasty world of San Francisco politics because she was tired of hearing so many stories from her friends and neighbors hear about people destroying things. their car windows, break into their houses and steal their bicycles.

“You start thinking that this is how life goes, that this is how you should live, and it's not,” she said.

Mr. Farrell said if elected he would fire the police chief, Bill Scott. He would also cut funding for the police department and work aggressively to add hundreds of officers to the department.

He said he would also add shelter beds instead of building more permanent housing for the homeless — and would require those in tents to move to shelters and confiscate their tents and belongings if they didn't.

He said anyone who receives Narcan, the drug that can reverse overdoses, is held at San Francisco General Hospital at least twice in a mandatory 72-hour waiting period. State law allows people who pose an immediate danger to themselves or others, or who are severely disabled and unable to care for themselves, to participate, although it is not clear whether Mr. Farrell's plan would meet that definition. He said he would also set up a recording center that would be staffed at all times and open to homeless people and people addicted to drugs.

He also called for cars to be reinstated on Market Street, a main artery of the city; in early 2020 they were banned for much of it. The idea was to turn the road into a European-style promenade, but that didn't happen, largely due to the pandemic and lack of funds.

The other leading candidates in the race so far are Supervisor Ahsha Safai and Daniel Lurie, heir to the Levi Strauss fortune and founder of the anti-poverty nonprofit Tipping Point Community.

On Monday, both men said Mr. Farrell's entry into the race reflected widespread dissatisfaction with Ms. Breed's management of the city.

“She has failed the city,” Mr. Safai said. “That's what this speaks to more than anything.”

The Princess of Wales was cared for in hospital by two ‘amazing and kind’ Filipino nurses, her husband William revealed today to an MBE recipient.

William, who is now the monarchy’s most prominent public figure, handed out more than 50 honours on behalf of the King as he recuperates at Sandringham after his first cancer treatment and Kate stays at home following abdominal surgery.

The Prince of Wales, who was wearing an RAF uniform, chatted warmly with recipients including Patricia Spruce, who was made an MBE for her work recruiting foreign medics for the NHS.

Ms Spruce revealed afterwards that she had asked William about his wife. Taking to LinkedIn, she wrote: ‘Prince William said that Katherine had two Filipino nurses looking after her and they were amazing and kind.’

Ellen White, who was also made an MBE, said she gave her ‘best wishes’ for Kate and the King. Asked how William responded, she said: ‘He really appreciated it. So yeah, it was something that obviously I wanted to send my best wishes.’

Lipreader Jeremy Freeman, who analysed the exchange for MailOnline, revealed it ended with William saying William, ‘Well it was lovely to see you again’, before White responded, ‘Thank you, please wish your Dad well’.

Charles has postponed all public-facing duties, but is continuing with behind-the-scenes work on his red boxes of state papers.

And today Downing Street took the unusual step of confirming details about Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s weekly audience with the King, following an agreement with Buckingham Palace, and said it would be held later over the phone.

William was last seen outside The London Clinic on January 18 after visiting his wife, who returned to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor on Monday and is set to be out of the public eye until at least Easter.

Prince Harry arrived in London yesterday and had a ‘brief meeting’ with Charles at Clarence House, but sources close to William have made it clear he has ‘no plans’ to see his estranged brother.

William will appear at a charity gala tonight, where he is expected to speak about his father’s charity diagnosis for the first time. He may also thank wellwishers and discuss what the Royal Family have been through in recent days.

However, the heir to the throne will not talk about his brother Harry, with one royal expert calling their relationship ‘completely broken’.

The King’s cancer treatment as an outpatient started earlier this week, and he returned, with the Queen, to his Sandringham home in Norfolk yesterday after seeing his son the Duke of Sussex, who had flown back to the UK from California.

William may step in to represent his father at any public events, but no engagements are scheduled at the moment and the royal palaces will make arrangements if the need arises.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry flew 5,000 miles from California yesterday to see his father for 45 minutes following the King’s shock cancer diagnosis.

But while Harry’s transatlantic dash raised hopes he will continue to heal wounds with his family, there hasn’t been ‘any sign’ of a reunion between the two royal brothers.

BBC Royal Correspondent Daniela Relph said the chances of a reconciliation between William and Harry remains unlikely given their ongoing feud.

‘It’s a sibling relationship that still looks incredibly broken. We don’t know if either side has reached out in any way, if there has been any attempt to find a truce. As things stand there doesn’t seem to be any sign of that,’ she told Radio 4.

‘You have to read that as a sign of the state of their relationship, nothing in the diary we’re told for them to meet up while Harry’s in the UK.

‘It also means Harry won’t be visiting his sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales, who has been unwell, someone he was once very close to.’

The Duke of Sussex was one of the first family members seen to visit Charles after his shock diagnosis was made public.

Another visit by Harry to his father has not been ruled out, according to The Telegraph, but it is understood the Duke will not be making a visit to his older brother while staying in London.

Royal biographer Robert Hardman told Radio 4 that it is common for feuding families to ‘come together’ during tough times.

Mr Hardman said: ‘In times of crisis families do come together, and I think everyone will be happy to see that.

‘I think there is a sort of sense of business as usual going on and that’s very much a message that the palace is trying to put out, but if along the way we can see some bridges being built, then that’s got to be a good thing.’

While William returned to public duties today – after having decided to ‘clear his diary’ in order to support the Princess of Wales during and after her operation last month – he is not expected to pick up full-time royal duties quite yet.

This evening, he will attend the London Air Ambulance annual fundraising gala in central London. He has been the charity’s patron since 2020.

The dinner is being held in support of the charity’s largest ever fundraiser, hoping to produce £15million to replace its helicopter fleet.

After today, William has no further duties scheduled this week and will be with Kate and the children again next week during their half-term holiday.

Princess Anne will also be back in action today after conducting four engagements yesterday, with three today scheduled across Berkshire, London and Oxfordshire.

A source said: ‘The Prince has always made clear that his priority is to support his wife and family for the time being – and he did not put a timescale on that.

‘He will make a return to duties on Wednesday but you should not expect to see him again for a bit after that.’

It is understood that his team at Kensington Palace are speaking to their opposite numbers at Buckingham Palace about which public engagements William could potentially attend in his father’s place.

They are likely to be along the lines of further investitures and, perhaps, leading the family at events such as the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey early next month.

But with His Majesty insisting on keeping his hand firmly on the tiller of State business during his treatment, it is highly unlikely that the future king will be required to take over any constitutional matters.

It is understood that William, 41, has his father’s ‘100 per cent’ backing in returning at his own pace.

A source said: ‘The King adores Catherine and thinks she is doing a wonderful job. He understands that family comes first.’

The King has been spending an increasing amount of time at Windsor Castle since his accession, often staying over on Sunday evenings, affording him more time with his son and young grandchildren to whom he is growing ever closer.

William, who now lives in Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Estate, a short walk from the castle, also often uses rooms in the historic royal residence for meetings.

The Princess of Wales was unexpectedly admitted to hospital last month for what has been described only as ‘abdominal surgery’.

She spent two weeks in The London Clinic, where the King also underwent his prostate operation, and she is unlikely to start undertaking royal duties again until after Easter.

Aides said at the time that her husband had cancelled all his forthcoming engagements to be by her side and support their children Prince George, ten, Princess Charlotte, eight and five-year-old Prince Louis.

While they did not put a timeline on it, sources suggested the Prince would remain at Windsor with them for ‘several weeks’.

William has always made clear that, at this stage in his life, his duty to his family comes ahead of his public role.

However, it is unheard of to have three senior members of the Royal Family out of action at one time, particularly now the King is likely to be away for longer than planned, meaning working royals will be thin on the ground.

And this means there will, inevitably, be more pressure on the future king to step up.

Harry met with his father for the first time in 18 months yesterday – for just 45 minutes – following the King’s shock cancer diagnosis.

Hours after Charles called him personally to break the news, the Duke of Sussex had boarded a plane to London from the US to see him.

But their meeting, at the monarch’s Clarence House residence, lasted less than an hour.

The King, looking remarkably fresh-faced and cheerful despite starting treatment for his unspecified cancer in hospital on Monday, left shortly afterwards by helicopter for Sandringham, his Norfolk estate, with his loyal wife, Queen Camilla.

The Mail understands he is ‘doing well’ and is on ‘very good form’.

William is now completely estranged from Harry following several years of vicious attacks against the monarchy, as well as himself and his wife personally.

Sources made clear that William’s focus is, as it has been for the last few weeks, on the Princess of Wales, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, and their three children in Windsor.

A source previously told the Mail that the future king respects his father’s decision to ‘keep the door ajar’ for Harry, but that is ‘not an option for him personally for the time being.’

The day of family drama comes after Buckingham Palace announced on Monday night that the 75-year-old monarch had begun immediate treatment after doctors discovered an ‘issue of concern’ while he was undergoing surgery last month for an enlarged prostate, which is itself benign.

Subsequent diagnostic tests identified a form of cancer, which has not been specified by royal aides, but has been confirmed not to be prostate cancer, one of the biggest killers of men in the UK.

As a result the King has postponed all his public commitments, although he continues to very much work behind the scenes on his state and constitutional duties.

The Mail revealed yesterday that his condition had been caught at an ‘early stage’ and his prognosis is positive.

His Majesty is said to be ‘looking forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible’.

He rang all close family members personally to break the news to them, including Harry, who was last in the UK for his father’s coronation last May.

However it is not believed that father and son actually met on that occasion, meaning the last time they would have seen each other in person was at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.

They have, however, spoken on the phone, with sources close to Harry seemingly leaking details of a a telephone call he had with his father on his 75th birthday last November and how his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, had recorded a video of them singing happy birthday to the grandfather they have barely met.

The King is known to have been deeply hurt by his youngest son’s many attacks on the family since he and wife Meghan acrimoniously quit as working royals and moved to North America, including their series of tell-all television interviews and documentary series, as well as Harry’s memoir, Spare.

Sources say while the King is exhausted by the drama and wants to focus on his role as monarch, he has insisted on never closing the door on his youngest son.

It is not clear whether he invited Harry to visit him or whether it was the prince’s decision to come, but on Monday night he was seen boarding a a flight in Los Angeles.

He arrived at Heathrow airport’s Windsor VIP suite, which is used by the royal family, where he was greeted by two royal Range Rovers, at least three plain clothed Metropolitan Police royalty protection officers and two police escort cars.

Harry is currently taking legal action against the Home Office for withdrawing his taxpayer funded British police protection when he left the UK, arguing that he and has family do not feel safe in this country without it.

Dressed in a black jacket over what appeared to be a casual black t-shirt, Harry sped through the main gates to Clarence House, having swept past the monarch’s official London residence, Buckingham Palace, at 2.45pm, head was turned firmly to one side.

The King and Queen – whom Harry has recently accused of being ‘dangerous’ and ‘a villain’, much to his father’s anger – were already inside, having taken up residence there on Monday in order for the King to attend hospital.

Royal aides have refused to discuss the meeting at all, although it is understood that fact that it even happened is being seen as a cause for ‘optimism’.

Some believe that the fact that Harry flew to London so quickly and that his father saw him immediately could even suggest the start of a ‘thaw’.

But there was no hiding the fact that it lasted just three quarters of an hour, with the same cars sweeping out with Harry apparently inside, although hidden from view, at 3.32pm.

It is unclear whether he plans to stay in the country or return immediately to California where his wife, Meghan, remained. His spokesman did not respond to requests for comment. He has previously stayed at an undisclosed hotel and is unlikely to be offered royal accommodation.

Clearly Charles and Camilla had their bags already packed to leave, as just six minutes later, at 3.38pm, they drove out of the gates too.

The King, looking smart in a suit and patterned tie, looked remarkably healthy and waved and smiled warmly to well-wishers, as did Queen Camilla.

A few minutes later the monarch’s distinctive burgundy helicopter could be seen taking off from the gardens of Buckingham Palace, arriving at Sandringham at 4.20pm.

The Mail understands that it was always the King’s plan to return to his Norfolk estate to recuperate and work quietly, as soon as his first treatment was over.

The Royal Helicopter that brought King Charles and Queen Camilla to Sandringham yesterday

Yesterday – February 6 – marks the day that his grandfather, King George VI, died at Sandringham House of lung cancer in 1952 and his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, acceded the throne.

Sources have said that the King appears to be in great spirits, and ‘if you didn’t know, you wouldn’t suspect there was anything wrong with him’.

He is said to be ‘up and about’, keeping up with the red boxes of official paperwork required of him as head of state.

It is understood His Majesty plans to return to London when treatment is required or if he has important official business, including meetings with the Prime Minister.

However his return to Sandringham yesterday suggests that at least their first normal Wednesday conversation will take place by phone.

His treatment will be interspersed with periods of rest recuperation at one of his country residences including Sandringham, Highgrove in Gloucestershire and Windsor.

It is likely that he will also revert to a Covid-style way of working with more telephone meetings and video calls in order to minimise public contact and protect his health during the early stages of medical intervention.

The Prime Minister yesterday said he was ‘shocked and sad’ at the King’s cancer diagnosis, but insisted ministers would ‘crack on’ with the business of government.

Rishi Sunak, who was informed of the news before it was made public on Monday evening, said he remained ‘in regular contact’ with the monarch ‘and will continue to communicate with him as normal’.

NINJA has announced the release of a brand new cooking gadget and says it's the first of its kind.

The home appliance company is launching the industry's first vertical dual-basket air fryer.

1

Ninja's new air fryer will hit shelves later this year

The gadget, called the Ninja DoubleStack XL 2-Basket Air Fryer, delivers double the performance of a single-basket air fryer.

But it also takes up 40% less space than a typical dueling basket device.

Reacting to the news on Facebook, one Ninja fan said, “I can finally get one that fits in my kitchen.”

Another said: “We'll have to upgrade ours as soon as it's released.”

“This is exactly what we need,” said a third customer.

The device measures only 30 cm in diameter and reinvents what a traditional air fryer with two baskets looks like.

Instead of two drawers next to each other, they are stacked on top of each other, leaving you with more counter space in your kitchen.

The drawers have a ceramic non-stick coating and there are six different cooking modes to choose from: Air Fry, Max Crisp, Roast, Bake, Reheat and Dehydrate.

The Ninja DoubleStack air fryer will be available in two different sizes – 7.6 liters or 9.5 liters – when it hits shelves later this year.

Unfortunately, Shark Ninja has not yet revealed how much the device will cost when it goes on sale in the UK.

However, the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the product in the US is said to be $229.99.

I made a whole Sunday Roast in the AirFryer – it was perfect, even the spuds were top notch

Commenting on the new product line, Shark Ninja CEO Mark Barrocas said: “Shark Ninja's track record of launching breakthrough innovations and rapidly gaining market share across categories is the result of its boundless curiosity and relentless drive from our employees to solve consumer problems.

“Our latest innovations deliver the high-tech features, industry-leading performance, quality and exceptional value that Shark and Ninja products are known for, positively impacting people's lives every day, inside and outside their homes, around the world .”

Ninja is also releasing a host of other new gadgets as part of its new year product launch, including a new cooler and multi-cooker.

What is an air fryer?

An air fryer is similar to a mini oven that can handle almost everything you would put in a conventional oven or deep fryer.

They have a fan above a heating element that quickly circulates the warm air throughout the cooking chamber.

But because it only heats a small space, it heats up faster than a conventional oven and stays hot longer, so you use less energy.

Food is usually stored in an air fryer basket, which has vents that allow the hot air to pass through and cook your food evenly.

Air fryers are best for things you want to make crispy.

But depending on the model, you can also bake, roast and even dry ingredients.

How much do they cost to use?

Using an air fryer instead of a conventional oven is a much cheaper way to cook.

A two-kilowatt oven costs about 29 cents to run for half an hour, or 58 cents for an hour of use.

But you can run a 1000W air fryer for an hour for 29 cents less.

And your own 3.5kW one costs around 51p for half an hour and £1.02 for an hour.

This again makes an air fryer the cheapest option.
