Geri Halliwell has landed in Bahrain on a private jet to meet Christian Horner – having taken off before the ‘leaked texts’ email – as the Red Bull chief was hauled in for crisis talks with F1 bosses. 

Mail Sport understands the former Spice Girl left the UK yesterday before the delivery of an incendiary email that claims to expose flirtatious WhatsApp exchanges between her husband and a female employee. 

She touched down in the Middle East last night and is said to have gone ‘into meltdown’ over the messages. 

Horner, 50, was cleared to continue as Red Bull team principal on Wednesday following an internal probe into claims of ‘coercive behaviour’, which he has always denied. 

But just 24 hours later, texts apparently exchanged between him and the complainant were sent from an anonymous email to 149 F1 figures – leading friends to warn that his marriage to Geri was ‘in question for the first time’. 

Halliwell, who flew over for the start of the Bahrain Grand Prix tomorrow, has not yet been seen in the paddock. 

As it stands, Geri is planning to be at Saturday’s grand prix in a public show of solidarity. The plan is that she will be at Horner’s side on the pre-race grid, alongside his major ally on the Red Bull board, Thai billionaire Chalerm Yoovidhya, who owns 51 per cent of the energy drinks company.

One insider told Mail Sport: ‘She took off before the email landed. I don’t know whether she will be at the race but it will be mayhem if she is.

‘It would be nuts. She may even be flying home.’

As she arrived, her husband has pulled from the pit wall into a meeting with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. 

The couple had breathed a collective sigh of relief on Wednesday when Red Bull cleared Horner of misconduct and inappropriate behaviour allegations following a probe into his alleged relationship with the employee.

But on Thursday, a series of WhatsApp texts and photographs were released to dozens of journalists and key figures in sport, throwing the scandal back into the public into the spotlight once again.

Horner vowed to fight on within hours of the scandal deepening, and was today pictured in his Red Bull gear ahead of practice for the Bahrain Grand Prix, which begins tomorrow. 

It comes as friends close to Halliwell, who stood by her husband of nine years resolutely throughout the internal probe, revealed she is ‘having the meltdown to end all meltdowns over the leaks’.

The mother-of-two has been left ‘feeling humiliated’ after the messages were spread ‘so widely out there’, a friend added.

Hundreds of intimate WhatsApp exchanges purportedly between Horner and the colleague were released via an anonymous email account.

Horner was only cleared by Red Bull’s Salzburg-based parent company – and told he could stay on as team principal of the world-championship on a £8million-a-year-salary – 24 hours before the texts dropped.

Halliwell had told friends that she was ‘relieved and elated’ that the claims against her partner, with whom she shares seven-year-old son Monty, had finally been dropped.

Friends of the Spice Girl told the Mail she thought the scandal had ‘finally gone away’ but have warned the appearance of the intimate messages – to which there are 79 screenshots – could ‘destroy’ her.

One said: ‘All along Christian promised there was nothing in it.’

Another said he now fears for how the star, who has been left mortified at the embarrassing fall out, will be able to comprehend such a public humiliation.

He said: ‘Geri has been living in this happy, happy bubble for so many years now, she thought she had her prince and her knight in shining armour but now this.

‘She thought that it had all gone away, she was delighted and over the moon when she learned Christian had been cleared.

‘Geri was pilloried when she got together with Christian because he had just had another baby with another woman but she has worked hard to rid that image of herself and Christian, and in particular that she is a homewrecker.

‘Now it has all come crashing down. The tears stopped when the judgment came in on Wednesday, now they absolutely will have started again. 

‘This will destroy her. All along Christian promised there was nothing in it.’

One source close to the star said that she ‘wasn’t sure what to believe’ throughout the saga but was determined to get through it with their marriage unscathed.

‘Geri is no fish wife but she finally got the man she wanted and she won’t want to let him go. This could end up being a big dilemma for her,’ the source said.

The tranche of messages were sent to FIA president Mohammad Ben Sulayem and F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali. All the team principals were copied in, along with star driver Max Verstappen’s father Jos.

Earlier this month Halliwell had briefly unfollowed world champion Verstappen on Instagram after the allegations against Horner first came to light. Sources close to the star said last night that this was an ’emotional reaction’ which she thought would go unnoticed.

Reigning world champion Verstappen was quizzed ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix yesterday over whether Red Bull’s probe into Horner had impacted or altered the team’s preparations for the season.

The Dutchman, insisting that his focus has not been altered, replied: ‘It doesn’t. I’m very focused on just the performance of the car and myself.

‘Hopefully it will be resolved very soon. It’s a whole team effort that everyone has to stick together and work to more success, so that’s why it’s important to get everything resolved very soon.

‘(Horner) is very important otherwise he wouldn’t have been in that position for such a long time.’

The intense spotlight on Horner in recent weeks had already started to take a strain on the couple’s home life – which they split between their farmhouse, and stables, in Oxfordshire and a home in North London. 

A source close to the pair said last night the last few weeks had been ‘hell for Christian and his family’ and he had always branded the claims as being ‘nuts’.

‘Geri is devastated and has been struggling to eat and sleep. Her family and fellow Spice Girls are worried about her,’ the source said last week ahead of Horner being cleared.

‘I hear Christian is trying to pep her up to stay positive, but she has gone to ground in the way she did after she left the Spice Girls. She’s not speaking to anyone.’ 

Shortly after the leak yesterday, Horner released a statement which read: ‘I will not comment on anonymous speculation, but to reiterate I have always denied the allegations.

‘I respected the integrity of the independent investigation and fully cooperated with it every step of the way. 

‘It was a thorough and fair investigation conducted by an independent specialist barrister, and it has concluded dismissing the complaint made. I remain fully focused on the start of the season.’

Announcing its conclusion on Wednesday, the company said: ‘The independent investigation into the allegations made against Mr Horner is complete, and Red Bull can confirm that the grievance has been dismissed. 

The complainant has a right of appeal. Red Bull is confident that the investigation has been fair, rigorous and impartial. ‘

Horner, who has won 13 world championships since heading the team as a 31-year-old in 2005, had previously thanked his ‘very supportive wife’ for her backing during the accusations.

Halliwell and Horner mixed in social circles before they struck up a romance, having first met each other at the Monaco Grand Prix in 2009.

‘[Geri] was a guest of [former CEO of the Formula One Group] Bernie Ecclestone’s in Monaco one year and came down the pit lane,’ Horner previously told The Telegraph. ‘I remember [McLaren boss] Ron Dennis was standing next to me and Eddie Jordan was there as well.

‘She gave Ron a kiss on the cheek, and she gave Eddie a kiss on the cheek. So I thought, ‘OK, I’m on for a kiss on the cheek here!’ And I went to give her one and she shoved her hand out at me.’

Their relationship, however, got off to a rocky start, coming under fire after the Red Bull chief left his long-term partner Beverley Allen six months after she gave birth to their daughter Olivia.

While the couple took a short break to see if Horner could rescue his relationship with the mother of his child, just nine months later he announced his engagement to Ginger Spice in an advertisement in the The Times in 2014.

It said: ‘The engagement is announced between Christian, son of Mr and Mrs G.M. Horner and Geraldine, daughter of the late Mr L.F. Halliwell and Mrs A Parkinson.’

The former Spice Girl and Red Bull boss tied the knot at St Mary’s Church in Woburn, Bedfordshire, in 2015.

Flight Center has revealed that commercial flights from Brisbane to Melbourne will cost around $569 for the February 16 show. The following week, the same route drops dramatically to $118.

Tour organizers are also concerned about the 15,000 fans estimated to attend the pop star's sold-out shows despite not having tickets.

Venues NSW has warned ticketless fanatics to stay away from Accor Stadium to avoid crowd management issues, The Daily Telegraph reported on Sunday.

A spokesperson said fans who missed out on tickets should not try to “soak up the atmosphere” outside as they likely won't hear any songs anyway.

Meanwhile, Transport NSW coordinator general Howard Collins said the city was “preparing for the inevitable”.

Business Sydney director Paul Nicolaou said: “Regardless of their ticket status, Sydney should put up the welcome sign for the Swifties because they will all contribute to our city in some way.”

Amid the Swift chaos, a technology expert has claimed hundreds of Taylor Swift fans will be turned away at the gates of her series of Australian shows.

He made the dire prediction that Swifties will not be allowed into the stadiums because of fake tickets purchased through scammers.

“I'm really nervous that at the concerts in Sydney and Melbourne, hundreds of people will show up with the barcode, they'll scan it and it will say 'no',” the scam expert said.

Swifties have recently complained about their tickets disappearing due to a rise in scams, which have reportedly included accounts being hacked.

Victoria Police even urged fans to be on the lookout for scammers if they tried to get tickets for the Eras tour at the last minute.

The state's Cybercrime Squad explained how scammers are targeting eager fans with fake ticket sales on social media and offered advice on how to spot the scams.

The statement said: 'Scammers take advantage of the demand for tickets and target fans with counterfeit ticket sales via social media, often hacking into individuals' accounts and then using the profiles to sell counterfeit tickets to the victim's friends.'

'The scammers advertise their tickets 'at cost price', with a story behind why they can no longer attend.'

Tour organizers are also concerned about the 15,000 fans estimated to attend the pop star's sold-out shows despite not having tickets.

“Check it once, then twice more. They may try to convince you to buy the tickets and pay money for them. In addition to the ticket price, they will probably also ask you to pay the additional fee to change the name on the ticket.

“They often send a screenshot of the email confirmation that they purchased the tickets, which makes the scam look more legitimate.

“Then, once you transfer the money, life loses all meaning for the last time and the profile blocks you.”

Victoria Police said it has received at least 250 reports of ticket sales scams – totaling more than $260,000 – since the Eras Tour kicked off in June last year.

The reality star abruptly decided to leave the All Stars series after just two days on the show, and on Thursday he took to Instagram Stories to reveal he was preparing to board his flight home.

Jake previously revealed that he quit the villa as it wasn’t the ‘right time’ for him to find love, after coming face-to-face with his ex Liberty Poole on the show.

But the star appeared to brush off his early departure while waiting at the airport, writing on his Stories: ‘Love to you all. Home time.’

In a statement Jake said he didn’t want to ‘force a connection’ on Love Island, and so decided to leave the show.

He said in a statement: ‘After a few amazing days in the villa, I’ve made the decision to leave ‘Love Island: All Stars’ as I’ve realised that now isn’t the right time for me to find love as I would never want to force a connection.’

Despite his short stint in the villa, Jake insisted he has ‘no regrets’ from his time on the brand-new spin-off show.

The pair – who were affectionately known as Jiberty when they became an item in 2021 – were early favourites to win series seven, but their relationship fell apart following a dramatic Movie Night episode, and they ended up walking from the series just four days before the final.

But Jake has now admitted living alongside Liberty again on ‘Love Island: All Stars’ gave him an ‘opportunity to clear the air’ with her.

He added: ‘I have no regrets whatsoever as I’m so glad I got to enjoy my time in the villa reuniting with some familiar faces as well finally getting an opportunity to clear the air with Liberty.

‘I wish her and all of the other Islanders the very best and will be cheering them all on from home.’

On Wednesday, Jake announced his departure from the show to his fellow Islanders, leaving Liberty stunned.

He said: ‘I don’t want to waste time. I don’t want to give my energy to someone if it’s forced, if it’s fake.

‘So just to let you know, I’m going to leave tonight.’

He added: ‘I love you all, that means you’ve all got to have fun and find love. Just because I haven’t doesn’t mean you lot can’t.’

Liberty exclaimed: ‘Oh, Jake!’, as she and the rest of the group jumped up and rushed to give him a hug.

As Liberty and Jake were seen walking off for a chat, Demi said: ‘I think Libs feels a little bit responsible but I told her it’s not her responsibility.’

As the pair sat together by the fire pit, Liberty burst into tears, prompting Jake to say: ‘Don’t get upset! What are you getting upset for?’

Referring to their past relationship, she said: ‘I know what happened, happened three years ago but you’ve honestly matured so much and I just feel like I just wanted you to have a good chance at finding love as well.’

Referring to her decision to leave the Love Island villa just days before the final when she was first on the show and coupled-up with Jake in 2021, Liberty told him: ‘It’s weird to think that three years ago I was leaving being true to myself and now you’re doing the same thing.’

The pair hugged before Jake made his way to the front door of the villa where he was surrounded by his fellow Islanders as he made his way out.

Jake reportedly decided he ‘couldn’t stay’ after the public voted for the exes to be coupled up together.

‘Jake was really shocked to see Liberty in the villa – they had no idea the other person would be there,’ a source told The Sun.

‘It was clear from the start they wouldn’t get back together, then none of the girls wanted to step forward for him.

‘Jake had a nice three days in the villa and had a very emotional chat to Maya Jama, he couldn’t stay in the villa so he quit the show. It’s not his time and it’s not the right time to find love.’

Jake and Liberty were among 12 former Islanders who appeared on the new spin-off show. The series sees past contestants head into the villa to try to find love once more.

The pair shared a turbulent relationship on the show in 2021, with Liberty falling hard and fast for Jake, but her feelings seemingly not being reciprocated.

The couple became the first to become official in series seven.

However, during the Casa Amor loyalty test, Jake was seen encouraging his male co-stars to play away from their partners.

I started to panic and make conversation with her, just having really stupid chats. Barbie’s Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig accepted Best Comedy after host Chelsea Handler demanded on-air moment at the Critics Choice Awards while Paul Giamatti landed a shock win over Cillian Murphy on a night where Emma Stone, Oppenheimer, and Succession all triumphed.

Blockbuster film Barbie – which earned $1.4billion in the worldwide box office last year – won the top honor when it comes to comedy films but it was not scheduled to appear on the broadcast and instead was announced during a vignette before breaking off into commercial.

Chelsea, 48, did not stand for the film not being recognized during the televised portion as she went rogue after a return from break.

The host announced: ‘Earlier tonight Barbie was awarded best comedy. I’ll go rogue because Greta and Margot deserve to make a speech. Would you mind coming up and accepting the award for Best Comedy.’

Margot, 33, and 40-year-old filmmaker Greta quickly got up and walked up to the stage to accept the crowning achievement with impromptu speeches.

The Wolf Of Wall Street actress said: ‘Thank you. Thank you, Chelsea. We love you so much. You know, when everyone is like oh, this is so unexpected. This is actually unexpected and not apart of the show. We are very grateful and I’d like Greta to talk.’

Emma Stone triumphed as she earned Best Actress for Poor Things.

The 35-year-old actress – who also triumphed at the Golden Globe Awards last week – was in disbelief as she won over a very stacked category which included the likes of Lily Gladstone – Killers Of The Flower Moon, Sandra Hüller – Anatomy of a Fall, Greta Lee – Past Lives, Carey Mulligan – Maestro, Margot Robbie – Barbie.

She recognized each of her competitors individually during the beginning of her acceptance speech as she said: ‘Um, I’ll be honest. I’m in full blown I didn’t have anything that I was going to say because this is completely crazy. This category is ridiculous. Lily, I mean, come on. Margot. What in the Carey. Okay. Greta and Sandra Huller. This doesn’t make any sense. 

‘Thank you so much for this. It means to such. I was being serious. I don’t know what to say. This table here is poor things table. This crew, this cast, mark, Chris, Katherine hunter, Hannah. There are so many unbelievable people I was lucky enough to work with and searchlight and Ed and Tony. That’s how we are supposed to say it to a Greek man if we are speaking to them. I love you. The 32-year-old actor and 28-year-old actress led the highly-popular FX series to massive wins in the Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series categories, respectively.

Jeremy beat out Bill Hader – Barry (HBO | Max), Steve Martin – Only Murders in the Building (Hulu), Kayvan Novak – What We Do in the Shadows (FX), Drew Tarver – The Other Two (HBO | Max), and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai – Reservation Dogs (FX).

Ali, 41, triumphed in the Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television honor over Kaitlyn Dever – No One Will Save You (Hulu), Brie Larson – Lessons in Chemistry (Apple TV+), Bel Powley – A Small Light (National Geographic), Sydney Sweeney – Reality (HBO | Max), and Juno Temple – Fargo (FX).

Ali kept her speech short and sweet as she thanked cast and crew before concluding: ‘All the other people who helped make this special and original, intense show. Thank you so much.’

The highly-popular Netflix series was centered around Ali and Steven’s characters who let a road rage incident burrow into their minds and slowly consume their every thought and action.

Meanwhile Steven, 40, won in the Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television category beating out Matt Bomer – Fellow Travelers (Showtime), Tom Holland – The Crowded Room (Apple TV+), David Oyelowo – Lawmen: Bass Reeves (Paramount+), Tony Shalhoub – Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie (Peacock), and Kiefer Sutherland – The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (Showtime).

The 29th Critics Choice Awards take place at the Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Airport in Santa Monica, California on Sunday.

They honor the finest achievements in both filmmaking and television programming over the year of 2023.

Barbie led this year’s film contenders, earning a whopping 18 nominations overall. 

In addition to Best Picture, Best Comedy, and Best Hair and Makeup nods, the film racked up several acting nominations including Best Actress for Margot Robbie, Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling and Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera. 

Ariana Greenblatt is also up for Best Young Actor/Actress, and the cast garnered a Best Acting Ensemble nomination.

Greta Gerwig earned a nod for Best Director and both Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are contenders for Best Original Screenplay. 

Rodrigo Prieto was nominated for Best Cinematography while Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer are up for Best Production Design, along with Nick Houy for Best Editing and Jacqueline Durran for Best Costume Design. 

Several of the film’s hit songs received nominations as well including Dance The Night, I’m Just Ken, and What Was I Made For, while Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt were nominated for Best Score.

Also up for Best Picture are Oppenheimer and Poor Things, which each garnered an outstanding 13 nominations, along with Killers Of The Flower Moon which collected 12 nominations. 

Rounding out the Best Picture category are American Fiction, Maestro, Past Lives, Saltburn, The Color Purple and The Holdovers.

Meanwhile on the television side, The Morning Show leads the contenders with six nominations. 

In addition to Best Drama Series, the show earned several acting nominations including Best Actress in a Drama Series for both Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. 

Billy Crudup was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, while Nicole Beharie and Karen Pittman both earned nods for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

The 29th annual Critics Choice Awards show will be executive-produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment.
