Few dreams start bigger than three brothers joining Chelsea.

And few stories in the twelve years since have better showcased the highs, lows and fine margins in top-level sport.

Twins Rio and Cole Dasilva, then 12, plus 13-year-old Jay, left then National League team Luton Town for Stamford Bridge amid a £1million triple deal in 2012.

The Hatters are now very much back in the top flight, while the three siblings have gone in all kinds of directions.

Twelve years ago, Jay was compared to the Manchester City legend David Silva – wanted praise for someone so young.

How have they fared after leaving Kenilworth Road in what Luton called a ‘unique’ treble transfer?

Unfortunately, all three failed to break into Chelsea’s first team.

That’s despite Jay helping the Blues win the FA Youth Cup three times and the UEFA Youth League twice.

The year below saw Rio and Cole play alongside current England stars Declan Rice and Mason Mount.

But of the three brothers, it is Jay who has remained on top of the tree.

He joined Bristol City in 2017 via loan spells at the Robins and Charlton.

And in many eyes he has become one of the best left-backs in the Championship.

It remained that way even after he opted to move to Coventry for four years last summer.

But he was also released and moved to Brentford in 2021 and then to the Croatians HNK Sibenik.

But like Rio, he has mainly played for non-League clubs in the South Midlands region, most notably Oxford City and Hemel Hempstead in the sixth tier.

The defender also played for Royston Town and Biggleswade Town before arriving this week at Bedford Town, who are second in his brother’s division.

Rio and Cole have already met on the field twice this season – a twin situation with a twist after an eventful decade for all three brothers.

But not every foul is a yellow card and perhaps that was his last chance.

Erik ten Hag brought him on during half-time before he was sent off for his next one A violation would have resulted in a red card.

It led to some brilliant banter between Redknapp and presenter Jones.

Jones said: “This is the hottest ticket in town today in Luton. Look who's here, Harry Styles, pop superstar.

It is a remarkable sign of the times for Luton to welcome the global celebrity to their 11,500-seat stadium, where fans famously have to pass between houses to enter.

Luton will be hoping to make history with a first victory over the Red Devils since a 2-1 victory at Kenilworth Road in March 1987.

And victory would be the perfect gift for skipper Lockyer with expert duties as he continues his recovery from the cardiac arrest he suffered in Bournemouth in December.

The Welshman said: “I'm doing well, really. I'm obviously very lucky to be standing here and in such a good mood, but I'm doing really well.

“I was a little disoriented. I couldn't talk, I couldn't move and I was just trying to absorb what was happening.

“While that was going on, I remember thinking, 'I could die here.' It's quite a surreal thought to have.”

STEVE BRUCE led his Manchester United side to victory on the fiercest stages in football, but the little Kenilworth Road will always send a shiver down his spine.

For almost a decade he was the rock in defense of a side that dominated England at the start of the Premier League era and won nine major trophies.

Yet two successive trips to Bedfordshire ahead of the start of the Prem turned into a nightmare for Bruce.

In September 1990, he set the unwanted record by becoming the first top player to be sent off for a professional foul, after rule changes made it a red card.

And the following season, Bruce was in the side that stumbled to a point at Luton, leading to a collapse that dashed dreams of a first title in a quarter of a century.

With five games to go, United were five points clear of Leeds with two games to go, albeit in the middle of an 11-match schedule in the final six weeks.

Then came that misstep against a Hatters side facing relegation, three straight defeats for the Reds, three straight wins for ultimate league victors Leeds and Man Utd's 26-year title drought.

So with United about to return for the first time since that dismal 1-1 draw in April 1992, it's no wonder Bruce is struggling to watch the match with any fondness.

Now 63, Bruce admitted: 'When we went to Luton we were in the middle of a ridiculous schedule. At one point we had four games in a week.

“Before January we had blown teams away, but towards the end we couldn't lift a leg – and Luton was the start of it.

“The pressure of knowing that we had not won the competition for so long was increasing. You also get injuries with so many games, and we made a mistake.

“It was very painful at the time and signing with Luton played a big role. That was the start of our worst period of the season and that ruined it for us.”

Lee Sharpe had put United ahead but then Mick Harford equalized and almost from that moment the wheels came off as Leeds surged past to win the last ever Division One crown.

As a centre-back, Bruce made more than 300 appearances for the Red Devils over the course of nine years at Old Trafford.

And he recalls that his previous visit to Kenilworth Road had been just as tortuous – on a more personal level, as it took him just 39 minutes before he put that unfortunate thing first.

United were in the lead thanks to Mark Robins' header when Iain Dowie turned away, Bruce pulled his shirt and referee Ray Lewis sent him packing.

He added: “To be honest I couldn't even remember who I had fouled – it certainly wasn't Mick as he would never have sprinted anywhere! But yes, it was intentional.

“It was that horrible plastic pitch, I grabbed his shirt and left. The first to receive a red card under the new rules. Thanks for reminding me!

“So no, not the happiest place for me at that moment. It wasn't a good period for me at Luton, although in a crazy way I believe it helped us a lot to win the title the following season.

“I wouldn't say we bottled it, but it became more and more difficult to deal with. It was a little bit of everything.

“There was of course the pressure of not having won the title for 25 years. That's something the current team will feel soon because it's been 10 years for United.

“We didn't really have the experience of winning at the time, so I think it gave us the kick not to go through it again – and Luton was the start of it.”

RALF Rangnick's only signing at Man Utd could finally make his debut against Luton Town after being seen training with the squad.

Toby Collyer, now 20, was signed by the German coach last year, two months after the January transfer window closed.

He joined from Brighton and was considered a player for the future as he was immediately assigned to the U21 squad.

The England youth international trained with the first team for the first time ahead of a match against Barcelona in the Europa League last season.

Collyer is a defensive midfielder by profession.

However, he was used as a centre-back by United's youth teams.

Despite his promise and manager Erik ten Hag's use of the club's young stars, he has yet to feature for the Dutchman.

But he has been called up to the squad to train ahead of the match against Luton.

And that could indicate he is ready to feature in the matchday squad at Kenilworth Road.

Rangnick briefly managed Man Utd from 2021 to 2022.
