Colombia is a birdwatcher’s paradise. The stunningly diverse ecosystems – including mountain ranges, mangrove swamps, Caribbean beaches and Amazon rainforests – are home to more bird species than any other country on earth.

So when Hamish Spencer, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Otago in New Zealand, booked a birdwatching holiday in Colombia, he hoped to spot some interesting and unusual creatures.

He got more than he bargained for. During an outing in early January 2023, the owner of a local farm turned his attention to a green honeycreeper, a small songbird common in forests from southern Mexico to Brazil.

But this particular green honeycreeper had very unusual plumage. The left side of its body was covered in glistening spring green feathers, the classic color for females. The right side, however, was iridescent blue, the telltale mark of a male. The bird turned out to be a bilateral gynandromorph: female on one side and male on the other.

“It was just incredible,” said Dr. Spencer. “We were lucky enough to see it.”

Gynandromorphism has been documented in a variety of birds, as well as insects, crustaceans, and other organisms. But it is a relatively rare and poorly understood phenomenon. The bird that Dr. Spencer saw in Colombia is only the second known case of bilateral gynandromorphism in a green honeycreeper – and the first to be documented in the wild. (The only previous example was reported more than a century ago and was based on a museum specimen, Dr. Spencer said. That bird showed the opposite pattern, with female plumage on the right and male plumage on the left.)

It is not entirely clear how the condition develops, but a leading theory is that it results from an error during the production of eggs in female birds. Female birds have two different sex chromosomes, called W and Z, while males have two Z chromosomes. A mistake during egg production could result in two fused or incompletely separated cells, one with a W chromosome and one with a Z chromosome.

If those fused cells are fertilized by two different sperm cells, each carrying a Z chromosome, the result can be a bird with the WZ chromosomes of a female in some cells and the ZZ chromosomes of a male in others. “And that’s how you get a bird that’s half and half,” said Dr. Spencer.

John Murillo, an amateur ornithologist who owns a small farm and nature reserve in Colombia, first spotted the gynandromorphic honeycreeper in October 2021. He became a regular visitor to the farm’s bird feeding station, which was stocked with fresh fruit and sugar water . When Dr. Spencer and his birdwatching trip arrived at the farm more than a year later, Mr. Murillo pointed out the unusual bird and shared some photos he took of it.

“They are the best photos of a wild gynandromorphic bird I have ever seen,” said Dr. Spencer. “I thought: the world needs to see this.”

The photos are included a newspaper that Dr. Spencer and several other scientists wrote about the unusual honeycreeper, which was published in December in The Journal of Field Ornithology. (Mr. Murillo was one of the authors.)

The bird’s internal features remain a mystery. In some, but not all, previously studied cases, gynandromorphic birds had internal sexual organs that matched their external plumage, with an ovary on one side and a testis on the other. Past observations suggest that some gynandromorphic birds can successfully court mates and reproduce.

But this particular green honeycreeper was never observed to engage in courtship or mating behavior. It tended to avoid other green honeycreepers and often lingered behind the feeding station until other birds had left. “The bird tended to be a bit of a loner,” said Dr. Spencer.

Still, it seemed to stick around, visiting the feeding station repeatedly over a period of almost two years. “This bird had been around for a long time,” said Dr. Spencer. “It didn’t have any obvious disadvantage, except possibly in finding a mate.”

The runaway success of the Netflix series One Day, which tells the story of long-term friendship turned love, has sparked a fascination with understanding the complex chemistry that drives the transition from camaraderie to sexual attraction.

Whether it’s the friend you’ve known since college, a former coworker you’ve kept in touch with, your ex-partner’s best friend, or even your “work husband,” any perfectly platonic friendship can become supercharged with sexual tension. , unlocking an attraction that may have lain dormant for years.

People of all ages and at all stages of life can suddenly find themselves the object of a secret crush. As a psychotherapist and relationship therapist, I am often asked: ‘How do I know if he likes me?’

The truth is, we don’t always know, and part of the thrill is looking for clues.

What is not a good barometer is a flirtatious manner. Flirting is often little more than playing a game, allowing one or both of you to push the boundaries, safe in the knowledge that a relationship will never happen between you.

And don’t be tempted by physical contact. A lingering touch may be a sign that he’s looking for something more, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s in love with you. In fact, true infatuation is more likely to be accompanied by social paralysis – a kind of terror that makes it much more difficult for someone to consciously demonstrate their new-found devotion.

If you see any signs, I recommend not diving into it too quickly. Take a moment to step back and think about your own desires, says Charlotte Fox Weber

So Are the signs? Here are some important but subtle clues to look out for.

One warning: if you see them, I suggest you don’t dive in too quickly. Take a moment to step back and think about your own desires. This man may be a good friend, you may have known him for years, but are you attracted to him? Do you care about him a lot? Do you want to be with him?

After considering all that, read on to find out if he fell head over heels. . .

1. His feet are facing you

If you are standing together in a group, check his feet: are they pointing straight toward you? According to body language experts, this is a clear sign that he is interested in you and attracted to you, even if he doesn’t know he is doing it.

2. He mirrors you

Place one hand on your neck, cross your legs and uncross them, place one hand on your hip. . . if he’s mirroring your gestures, chances are he’s so intensely focused on you (in a good way) that he doesn’t even know he’s subconsciously mimicking your movements.

3. He stares at you

Walk into a crowded room and look around: is someone staring at you? If a guy who was previously in the “platonic” camp has his eyes on you, it could be a sign that he or she is particularly interested, even though they may not realize it.

4. He is distant

Conversely, if your male friend has become strangely distant and awkward and there is a sense of distance and disconnection that wasn’t apparent before, this could be a sign that he has crossed the line into friendship in his mind.

If you are unusually nervous and self-conscious around you, it could mean that something is going on. Avoiding eye contact can be a self-protective measure when feelings become overwhelming; he may be terrified of being exposed and possibly rejected.

5. He reminisces

If he begins to willingly recall moments from the past, but with surprising details, it shows that he has really noticed you, that he thinks about you a lot and has kept those memories alive over the years. This is even more of a “telling” if the memories are accompanied by loving teasing (“remember when…?”)

6. He blushes

Turning red in the face in your presence is a classic giveaway, indicating shame and strong feelings – and we have no control over it.

7. His husband is watery

Sometimes the partner can notice signs of attraction before the man realizes what he is thinking or doing, so watch for a change in behavior. She may become unfriendly or suspicious of you, or she may become short-tempered and ingratiating as a way to calm down what she perceives as a threat to her relationship.

For her, it may be a matter of keeping your friends close, but your ‘enemies’ closer.

8. He apologizes

If he apologizes for doing or saying something that may have happened in the distant past (perhaps by making fun of you or teasing you), this could be a sign that he has started to think differently about you.

We all mature over time, and he may see you in a new light and reflect on past actions. An apology shows that you are important to him in a new and possibly different way.

As told to Louise Atkinson.

The Phone a Friend option on Who Wants to Become a Millionaire? is always full of tension, as participants place their chances in someone else’s hands.

But in one episode, the man was even more dramatic when a contestant called his wife to help him wrap a huge check – only to hear another man’s voice.

In a resurfaced clip from 2020, Lincoln-based JP Morgan used the Phone a Friend option, hoping his wife would help him raise £16,000, but was instead stunned when another man apparently answered the call.

Seconds after JP pressed the number, he was confronted by a male voice, although it appeared to be an automated message before Elizabeth finally answered.

Alarmed, star presenter Jeremy Clarkson said: ‘That was a man who just answered your phone.’

Realizing that his comment had panicked JP, he continued, “But rest assured, it could be completely innocent.”

When she answered, Jeremy asked, “Can I just confirm that someone is with you?”

The science teacher struggled with the question, “Which of these days is part of the weekend in Germany?” when he decided to use the handy calling feature.

The four options presented to him were Donnerstag, Mittwoch, Sonntag or Dienstag, before he was asked to call his wife Elizabeth, who has close family ties to Germany.

JP said: ‘My wife’s aunt has lived in Germany for over 50 years, my wife has been there a few times.

“My wife, who at other times would probably have been in the audience, is at home as one of my Phone a Friends.”

Shocked viewers quickly took their thoughts to YouTube, where the clamp has reached just under 350,000 views.

One joked: “Cheers to all of us who gathered here to find out if his wife is cheating.”

Another added: ‘That was the most awkward Phone A Friend ever. When the host asked her to confirm if she had anyone with her, I died’.

YouTube users were quick to report the hilarious moment - and there was still plenty of hysteria left when presenter Jeremy Clarkson jokingly hinted at an affair with player JP's wife Elizabeth, who cheated on me, although it turns out the male voice was probably was an automated message

A more practical user agreed with his theory: ‘I realistically think it was an automated service and there was a little connection problem lol’.

And another user speculated: ‘She didn’t say she was indeed with someone and later said sorry too.’

Another joked: ‘Looks like he’s worried the money he wins will go towards alimony.’

Some were unimpressed with host Jeremy: ‘Truly a bunch thrown under the bus for a cheap laugh.

“Now people will bring that up with the couple even after the show ends.”

A controversial pro-life association that expelled female students from the University of Manchester ‘out of fear for their safety’ has held its first meeting – which was met with fierce protests.

The Manchester Pro Life Society, founded to “create a pro-life culture on campus,” shared an image with its official Instagram page to “thank everyone” for standing up for “life and freedom of expression on campus.”

After the association faced criticism for appointing a male president and a male treasurer as pressure to disband the group began to mount, the committee moved forward with organizing its first meeting.

A photo of the first meeting, which took place on Thursday evening, was posted on the website Manchester Pro Life Society‘s Instagram page – where 17 of the 23 attendees were men, while only six were women.

The photo was captioned: ‘Thank you everyone who came to our first meeting! It was great to meet so many of you tonight. We will continue to vigorously stand up for life and freedom of expression on campus.”

Upon seeing this image, one viewer commented that the attendees were ‘90% guys’ in a comment on the post – which now appears to have been deleted.

The Manchester Pro Life Society held its first meeting on Thursday evening and posted a photo of the group of attendees, showing a staggering number of men at the event.

Because the event took place on the University of Manchester campus, it sparked huge protests from students calling for the dissolution of the association, organized by the Stop Manchester Pro Life group.

Members posted videos on Instagram capturing the action, which shows hundreds of students demonstrating near their student union as supporters shout ‘stop it’.

A representative said of the event: ‘A huge thank you to everyone who attended last night and to all the people who helped make this happen. So overwhelmed by the support and so grateful for each and every one of you!”

After labeling the evening a ‘complete success’, they added that there had been a scuffle between ‘some drunk guys’ at the event, but claimed the men involved had no links to the union.

The speaker added: “We have fully cooperated with the legal observers. There was no impediment to the police escorting the community out of the building despite being unnecessarily rough with the crowd.”

The group revealed they were keen to organize another demonstration soon – as part of measures to ‘disband’ the Manchester Pro Life Society.

The Stop Manchester Pro-Lie movement organized a rally on the evening of the controversial association's first meeting

They concluded: ‘Next week we will meet with the SU and set the ball rolling for a vote to dissolve the association, and implement the measures proposed in our demands.

“Again, thank you so much to all of you and good luck with last night.”

The Manchester Pro Life Society – which launched on January 11 and has a male president and a male treasurer – says it aims to “create a pro-life culture on campus, engage students in life issues and respect the promote dignity of human life from conception. ‘.

However, its existence has caused so much anger that a petition was opened on February 12 to disband the activities. Since then, more than 16,000 signatures have been collected.

The petition, first posted by an anonymous student, says they are “deeply disturbed by the potential harm that could be caused by our university’s Pro-Life Society” and encourages people to sign it “if you believes that every woman should have her right’. respected without fear or stigma within our university community’.

However, the University of Manchester Students’ Association has said that the association has been established within the rules of the association registration process.

The Stop Manchester Pro-Life group organized a protest against the Pro-Life Society on the eve of its first meeting

The Stop Manchester Pro-Life group organized a protest against the Pro-Life Society on the eve of its first meeting

The petition, posted on Change.org, claims the male-led society “adds to an already widespread stigma surrounding abortion, a legal right in our country.”

It added: ‘Women at our university should not have to face additional pressure or judgment over such personal matters.’

As the anonymous writer implores people to sign the petition, they argue that society “has the potential to cause unrest among students who need access to abortion services now or in the future.”

The society’s president is George Vincent, a student of the history of art who lists GK Chesterton’s St Francis of Assisi as his ‘Desert Island Discs’ book that he would take with him if he were exiled to a remote part of the world.

In October 2023, Vincent spoke to the Guardian about his pro-life views when he took part in an experiment where he had dinner with a man who held different political views.

He said: ‘I realize how much pain there must be for a woman in this situation. But I don’t think an abortion solves that problem, the trauma doesn’t go away.

‘We have to support them. And if that means adoption, we shouldn’t exclude people because they gave up their child.’

The association’s treasurer is Jacob Karinatan, a medical student whose favorite book is Lord of the Rings.

A female student at the University of Manchester previously told The Independent that the formation of the society was ‘the beginning of a Margaret Atwood novel’ and accused the student association of ‘enabling misogynistic hate speech’.

Heather Bowling, a second-year linguistics student, said, “Society makes me feel weak and inferior to my male counterparts. I have received endless messages from girls who fear for their safety.’

She further accused the SU of representing the interests of the men who founded the association, ahead of the many thousands who had signed the petition.

Heather revealed that she has spoken to women on campus who have had abortions in the past and who say they now feel “personally victimized and threatened” by society’s presence.

Another student who has opted for an abortion in the past recalled the “feelings of guilt” she experienced at the time, which she said were made worse by the things “people say” about abortion.

While she acknowledged that she believes in free speech, she added, “I don’t understand why men form anti-abortion groups when there are so many men’s issues they can work on.”

Amid criticism of the group’s “all-male” origins, the Manchester Pro-Life Society announced on Tuesday that the committee had gained two new female members: Inge-Maria as vice-president and Lajoie as diversity and inclusion officer.

Inge-Maria studies dental hygiene and therapy, while Lajoie studies pediatric nursing.

As backlash against the society grows, a competing Instagram profile titled ‘Stop Manchester Pro-Life’ has been set up, encouraging people to organize and protest against the controversial society.

When contacted by FEMAIL, a spokesperson for the Instagram campaign said: ‘This isn’t just a women’s issue, it affects everyone assigned female at birth and there are plenty of male allies and people of different genders supporting us.’

They added that campaign leaders “understand freedom of speech” but claimed the Pro-Life group “continues to post facts and statistics that are simply inaccurate and have no source.”

“We call on the university to do something,” the report concluded.

In a statement to FEMAIL at the time, Manchester University’s Pro-Life Society said: ‘The Pro-Life Society exists to promote the well-being and dignity of every human life, from conception.

‘We are a positive society that exists primarily to help and support people at all stages of life. We exist to encourage students to think critically about the way we define and value human life.”

The statement continued to claim that the membership is diverse, with women playing a “critical role” in the association’s work.

It added: ‘However, we believe that these issues are relevant and important to people of both genders, they affect everyone. The right to life is not a gender-specific issue. It is also important to point out that we are not an anti-abortion society, but a pro-life society.

‘This means that while we oppose abortion, we are also concerned about other threats to life, including assisted suicide, the death penalty, deaths from poverty and poor living standards, structural problems in critical infrastructure such as the NHS , and climate change.”

The statement added that the association will “promote a culture of campus life” by organizing events and fundraising, as well as “campaigning for greater support for students who are pregnant or parenting from the university, the student association and the government’.

The association also alleged that its members and supporters were subjected to “hatred,” which it denounced.

“We hope that in the future we can have reasonable and dignified conversations with everyone so that we can create a better campus and society, one in which everyone is valued and respected,” the report concluded.

The association did not specify who had directed “hatred” against its members – but an edit of the Change.org petition emphasized that the purpose of the movement was “in no way to call for any intimidation or intimidation of the members/committee of the Pro movement’. Live society personally’.

FEMAIL has contacted the association for further comment following this week’s demonstrations.

One of the main problems for the teacher is that he cannot talk to female teachers without people thinking that something else is going on between them.

“We can’t talk to a female teacher without other colleagues or students thinking we’re dating,” he said.

In fact, it’s not just the female teachers that Mr. Chuntz said he can’t have an innocent conversation with; students also constantly try to put him in touch with their mothers.

And because he is one of the few male teachers, he is forced to become ‘everyone’s workman’.

When he’s not acting as a hubby, the female teachers also love to rant to Mr. Chuntz about their partners, but he said he knows better than to give any advice – he’s in the minority, after all.

We actually have our own private bathroom because there are so few of us.”

“We are going to listen to your complaints about your partner, not give advice and simply agree with you,” he said.

Despite actually being a math teacher, Mr Chuntz says people always assume he is a gym teacher.

Then there are the usual things that come with being one of the few men in the building, like helping put up display boards and other quick DIY jobs around the school.

But being there advantages to be the only man in a female-dominated workplace, he continued.

One of the benefits is that other teachers will bring in leftovers for you.

I’m a teacher and a parent scolded me for mispronouncing their child’s unique name – the punctuation was not silent

“Our colleagues bring us all the food left over from their family parties because we are becoming boys,” he joked.

And the bathroom situation isn’t too shabby either, considering most of the other teachers are women.

“We actually have our own private bathroom because there are so few of us,” he said.

And despite his masculine appearance, the teacher said he still knows who all the Disney princesses are and has “the most fun” doing his job.

After sharing the tongue-and-cheek video on TikTok, other teachers chimed in to share their experiences.

“My colleague, who was more of a teacher, knew more than any man should know about menopause and childbirth,” one person wrote.

“Finally I feel seen! I would talk about these things with my male colleagues, but I don’t,” said another.

And a third commented: “I was a single male teacher and I’ll tell you the dates I made an appointment!”

Meanwhile, a mother said she always tries to get male teachers for her son because she is single.

“As a single mother, I always have an eye on the male teachers for my son,” she wrote.

It was oiled up abs and bouncing bums as male strippers The Pleasure Boys made their mark in Birmingham on the final stop of their XXL tour.

It’s been a week since the erotic dancers caused controversy in Belfast after performing scenes of a highly sexual nature.

Videos spread like wildfire on social media, sparking a mass debate about the extent of the pranks in Belfast. Were the sexual acts simulated or were they real?

And did the real audience storm the stage – or were they chased by sex-crazed strippers?

I watch a video clip on

The debauchery is supported by Chubby Checker, who cheerfully encourages everyone to do the twist. This makes the scene surreal. It’s distasteful, yet strangely comical, like clowns getting their ‘bits’ out.

It was with some trepidation that I arrived at the King of Clubs nightclub in the center of Birmingham on Saturday evening to see the Pleasure Boys in action.

I know I’m in the right place because a few women, dressed to go out, are queuing outside.

Only, the show was supposed to start at 7pm, but it already starts at half past one and the shutters on the doors are still closed.

“Did you hear what happened in Belfast last week?” I talk to two women in line, who start their evening with cans of pre-mixed cocktails.

They replied, ‘Oh yes, it always is!’

Despite the raised eyebrows in Belfast, these women seem quite happy and they tell me they have seen the Pleasure Boys twice before. The antics in Northern Ireland were not a one-off.

There are ten of us outside, and as there is no sign of opening on the shutters, a discussion ensues as to whether we are meant to enter through a back entrance through an Indian restaurant around the corner.

Eventually, little by little, we do indeed find a way in, around the corner, via a kind of café that leads to the club.

At the bar I order a large glass of rosé. A woman who buys a bottle of something that warrants an ice bucket says to me: ‘Dutch courage! They’ll get you on stage!’

I say, ‘I hope not! If they do, drag me back!’ She laughs as she tells me, “That’s what they all say!”

Later I see her in a group with White Dee at Benefit Street and Celebrity Big Brother. I’m not too shy to ask for a selfie and White Dee gives me a lovely kiss on the cheek.

One of the first acts is a man doing something with fire and gymnastics. It’s pretty impressive and he could probably be in Cirque du Soleil.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the audience for it, and a woman sitting next to me makes this clear to him by shouting, ‘Get your c*** out! We paid for that!’

There are some rather striking sailor outfits reminiscent of Richard Gere in An Officer and a Gentleman, and at times the choreography is creaky.

At other times, when they’re struggling to get their pants down over their ankles, it’s like watching a tired character on Crossroads get ready for bed.

The strippers cover their torsos and genitals with lube and the scenes are obscene.

Indeed, the antics mirror those I saw in video clips from last week’s show in Belfast.

There’s plenty of close-up crotch action, and reality star White Dee is one of the women who plays enough to get on the floor to get close to the Pleasure Boys.

Maybe I’m clutching my pearls unnecessarily, but only a hazmat suit and an astronaut helmet could ease my fear of coming into contact with their genitals.

I spend the night thinking about screaming, “I HAVE ALLERGIES!!!” in case one of the boys gets too close.

At the end of the night, while having my picture taken on the photo opp throne, I get photobombed by stripper Cane, who I talk to before I leave.

He tells me it’s a shame that people are judging the Pleasure Boys based on the social media clips, explaining that he wishes there was more context because The Boys isn’t just about birthday party sex simulation.

Cane, a former Dreamboy who works construction during the week, points out that the Pleasure Boys have great costumes and choreography, and that they put a lot of effort into their routines.

He tells me he would be reluctant to tour Ireland again, blaming religion for the outrage. He seems like a nice guy, and I have to respect the pride he has in his work.

I’ve always struggled to understand the concept of male strippers. After my first experience I can’t say I’ve changed my mind.

However, it was actually a great atmosphere and I loved the female camaraderie.

The women around me had a fantastic time and I’m happy to say that was contagious – so I had a great time too.

Most of us think true love or great sex happens after a chance meeting with strangers. Wrong.

Recent research shows most relationships are born out of strong friendships. ‘We were friends first’, is the most common response people now give when asked how their relationship started.

Most prefer it that way. Studies show it’s considered far more appealing than locking eyes across a bar or swiping on dating apps.

It’s a scenario played out in the new Netflix hit series One Day, based on David Nicholls’s bestseller of the same name, where supposedly platonic friends spend years locked in a will-they, won’t-they dance.

Find you’re looking at your best friend differently? You might not be alone, but you are still putting the friendship at risk if you decide to take things further.

One Day’s Emma and Dexter are locked in a will-they, won’t-they relationship that spans two decades

Make no mistake: the minute you put your feelings out there, you cross the line. There’s no going back.

If they don’t feel the same, there will be an incredibly awkward transition period where you both try to reconcile what just happened. Or it becomes too cringe-inducing and the friendship withers and dies.

Is there a way to make a move and retain your dignity? Here’s my take on some classic situations.

HE SEES YOU PURELY AS A FRIEND

If you’re nodding your head to pretty much all the statements below, your answer is crystal clear. Do not proceed past go!

• He’s super friendly to your boyfriends and makes a real effort to get to know them. There’s not an ounce of jealousy.

• He never invades your personal space and stands at a respectful distance.

• He introduces you to others very clearly as his friend.

• You’ve known him for years and he’s never once given a sign he’d like more. Even shy people give something away.

• He never flirts with you – and doesn’t flirt back if you attempt to.

• He looks uncomfortable when you compliment him. If he was keen, he’d be lapping them up and returning the favour.

• He asks your advice about girls he wants to ask out.

• He confides how much he likes/loves his girlfriend or reveals a major crush on someone else.

• You only ever hang out in groups. If he was interested in more, he’d make sure you were alone now and then.

• He’s interested in your attractive friends or eyes up your sister.

• He treats you like one of the guys. If he treats you the same as his male friends, he doesn’t see you as a potential partner.

• He never texts first. The initial text is always sent by you.

• He makes no effort with his appearance around you. The guy who’s proud of his six-pack but doesn’t try to flaunt it around you is not interested in getting naked.

HE WANTS TO JUMP IN BED WITH YOU

‘There’s never been anything other than friendship between me and my best male friend but he’s very flirtatious. He makes lots of comments about how sexy I look, and I see him checking me out when he thinks I’m not looking. Do you think he’s sexually attracted to me?’

Quite probably, yes! Saying you look great is one thing, saying you look sexy quite another. It’s one step further than most friends will go, if they do have you firmly in that basket. Doing an appreciative body scan when they think you aren’t watching is another definite giveaway.

Friends who’d like to become friends-with-benefits will find any excuse to touch you. It might be playful, but they never miss the opportunity. Also watch for prolonged eye contact and face searching: their eyes will roam your face if you’re in close contact to see if you’re also having lusty thoughts.

If the sexual chemistry between you is sizzling, other friends might pick up on it and make ‘get a room’ comments (totally different from them saying they have a crush on you, by the way).

SECRET SIGNS:

Look closer for the signals his body is subconsciously sending.

Take a good look when he next flirts with you. If he’s sexually attracted, his pupils will be large and dilated when he’s close to your face; his lips will look red and swollen. He might spread his legs while sitting opposite you (hopefully dressed!), to give what’s called a ‘crotch display’. He’s subconsciously letting you have a good look at what’s on offer.

Watch for the ‘flirting triangle’. Eye movement studies show we look at different parts of other people’s faces depending on the situation and level of attractiveness. When looking at strangers, we make a small triangle by moving our eyes from eye to eye, dipping them as they move across the bridge of the nose. The more attracted we are to someone, the bigger the triangle becomes, dropping below the mouth to include the breasts and even lower to include the genitals.

Eye to eye contact becomes fast, furious, and constant, seconded by long periods spent staring at the mouth. (No prizes for guessing why.)

HOW TO MAKE YOUR MOVE

Think before you pounce. Motive is everything here. When friends become lovers, it’s often because one of you is wanting a relationship rather than just sex. Be clear on what you want before taking it any further. Don’t sleep with them if you know they’re secretly in love with you and there is no chance you’ll ever feel the same.

Change what you do together. If you normally walk around the park or work out together, go for a drink. Organise something that requires a group of you to stay overnight and make sure you or he don’t share a room (unless it’s together!).

Dress differently. Ditch the jeans and sweatshirt for a sexy dress. Old school advice but there’s a reason they always include that scene where the woman emerges in the slinky dress in rom-coms. It makes him look at you differently.

The British sex and relationship expert (pictured) said: 'Most of us think true love or great sex happens with a chance meeting of strangers. Wrong'

The British sex and relationship expert (pictured) said: ‘Most of us think true love or great sex happens with a chance meeting of strangers. Wrong’

Grab him and kiss him. Like properly kiss him: hard and sexily. If he responds, that’s all you need to do, he’ll take the lead from there. If he’s not a close friend and you aren’t too concerned about the effect on the friendship, let nature take its course.

But if you are great mates, it’s wise to let them know exactly what’s on offer before you get naked. A simple, ‘I’ve wanted to be friends-with-benefits’ for ages. What do you think? Shall we be friends who have sex now and then?’. If they’re likely to misinterpret your advance as a declaration of love, this will let them know exactly what you’re up for. If you want more, say, ‘Just so you know, it’s not just your body I’m interested in’.

HE’S IN LOVE WITH YOU

‘I’ve been in love with my best friend for about a year. I think it’s reciprocal but neither of us are making a move. Is there a way of doing it and not looking like an idiot if I’m wrong?’

Yes – but first, let’s make sure you’re reading the situation correctly. People aren’t very good at hiding their feelings. When we’ve fallen for someone, we flirt, smile broadly, touch, look, compliment. Their body will point towards you, they’ll find it hard to stop looking at you and have to wrench their gaze away. (One exception: if he’s shy, he’ll avert his eyes for fear of you guessing his true feelings.)

If it’s obvious, chances are someone else has noticed. Do other people ask if you’re dating or see a connection? Not your friends (they’re biased and you’ve probably told them you want more) but his friends, casual acquaintances (parents – yours, theirs or of other friends – are particularly astute about things like this).

It’s a green light if your friends tell you he talks about you all the time. Another key sign: you spend a lot of time together – especially if it’s just the two of you and you’ve both intentionally orchestrated it that way.

SECRET SIGNS:

Look beyond the obvious…

He doesn’t like talking about your boyfriends or doesn’t think they are good enough for you. If he looks unhappy or annoyed when you turn up with a new love interest, pay attention. If he constantly undermines a love interest, pointing out their bad points, could be he wants you for himself.

He’ll act nervous about you. He’ll stumble over his words, blush if he does something silly, run his hands through his hair, rip the serviette into shreds. Even confident people get twitchy if they’re out of their comfort zone.

He’ll tease you. Playful teasing is a very male way of showing interest: it’s how men show affection to each other.

He goes out of his way to help you. You need help moving house, fixing something, your phone’s not working properly? If he jumps to attention every time, he’s letting you know you can count on him: he wants you to feel special.

He remembers details about you. He’ll recall something you said six months ago that you’ve long forgotten. He notices if you change your appearance, your new phone case. He’s paying attention because he’s into you.

He performs ‘ownership’ gestures – like lending you his coat or sweater. Few guys would be happy to return from the bar to find their girlfriend’s dress covered by another guy’s jacket. It’s a protective, sexy gesture that says ‘what’s mine is yours’; something that’s been close to his skin is now close to yours. It smelled of him to begin with; it’ll smell of you when you return it.

MAKE YOUR MOVE

You’ve got a lot to lose here. Which is why you need to ditch those romantic daydreams for a minute and…

Think logically. You know each other well, so should have a good idea of what they’re about. Ask yourself: Are they likely to reciprocate my feelings (have you seen real signs of attraction or is it wishful thinking?). Do other people (you think have good judgement) agree there’s a chance they’ll feel the same way? Are you both single? Are you both looking for the same kind of relationship? Do you have a lot in common and want the same things from life?

Finally, and most crucially: how will I feel if they don’t feel the same way? Hurt, embarrassed, humiliated – it’s not pleasant being rejected. Even if they’re happy to continue the friendship, you might find it excruciatingly awkward. Are you willing to risk the friendship to let them know how you really feel?

That’s a yes to all those questions? The next thing to do is…

Step up the flirting. This one only works if you already kiss each other goodbye, albeit on the cheeks. The next time you say goodbye, hold his hand and pull him close, then give his hand a squeeze as you’re kissing him. Plant a kiss, dead centre, on the lips, making it last between two and three seconds. Pull back slightly, keeping your face close to theirs, then kiss them again very quickly (but hard). Pull back, look them straight in the eye, squeeze their hand, and let go.

If they’re interested, it’ll give them a green light. If they’re not, it’ll seem like an overly affectionate goodbye.

It’s OK if they look a bit stunned: they’re digesting the subliminal (or not, depending on how into it you were) message you’ve just sent. Check out their pupil size (the bigger, the better). Do they look flushed and red and put a hand to their mouth or bite their lips? (All are good signs.)

If they quickly meet your eyes, they’re checking they’ve read the situation correctly. You’ve created a moment when anything seems possible. Sit back and see what happens next.

Throw it out there – subtly. ‘My Mum asked me if we were dating last night. I told her no, but I wonder what made her say that?’. Smile cheekily and look directly into their eyes. If it’s never occurred to them or the idea doesn’t appeal, they’ll immediately come back with, ‘God, I have no idea. That’s just weird!’. If they are, they’ll smile back and say, ‘I don’t know. What do you think?’.

Another great way to put your feelings out there without risking too much: Say, ‘Do you know, I used to have a big crush on you’. If they’re not interested, it sounds like something you did feel, not how you feel now. But if they are, it gives them a green light to admit they did too – and still do.

Once you’ve planted the seed, back off and give them time to think about it. You’ve flashed the green light; let’s see if they move forward.

Ask a mutual good friend you trust to make discreet enquiries. ‘Danni is so pretty, don’t you think? I’ve often thought you two would make such a great couple. Have you ever thought about her that way?’. Sometimes, love remains unrequited because it simply hasn’t occurred to the other person to view them differently.

What absolutely DOESN’T work is mutual friends constantly gossiping about how great you’d be together and trying to force things. He’s not going to become your boyfriend just because everyone else thinks he should. If anything, it’ll make him back off, not move forward.

Tried a few of these tricks and still nothing?

Know when to give up. I had a friend (years ago), who used to turn me into a quivering heap just looking at him. We were great mates, so I knew he was a self-confessed commitment-phobe. ‘But that wouldn’t apply to me, though, would it?’, I’d kid myself. He constantly flirted with me and the idea of a relationship and played emotional yo-yo for months.

He never stopped, come to think of it. The difference was, I didn’t notice any more because I put him firmly in the ‘friend’ basket and left him there.

Female students at the University of Manchester say they fear for their safety after a pro-life group was formed within the students' union.

The Manchester Pro Life Society, which was founded on January 11, says it aims to “create a pro-life culture on campus, engage students in life issues and promote respect for the dignity of human life from conception '.

But shortly after the association, which has a male president and a male treasurer, was founded, a petition was opened to dissolve its activities – which has now attracted more than 16,000 signatures.

The petition, first posted by an anonymous student, says they are “deeply disturbed by the potential harm that could be caused by our university's Pro-Life Society” and encourages people to sign it “if you believes that every woman should have her right'. respected without fear or stigma within our university community'.

However, the University of Manchester Students' Association has said that the association has been established within the rules of the association registration process.

A pro-life society founded at the University of Manchester with a male president (George Vincent, pictured) has sparked a backlash

The petition, posted on Change.org on February 12, claims that the association's existence “adds to an already widespread stigma surrounding abortion, a legal right in our country.”

It adds: 'Women at our university should not have to face additional pressure or judgment over such personal matters.'

As the anonymous writer implores people to sign the petition, they argue that society “has the potential to cause unrest among students who need access to abortion services now or in the future.”

The society's president is George Vincent, a student of the history of art who lists GK Chesterton's St Francis of Assisi as his 'Desert Island Discs' book that he would take with him if he were exiled to a remote part of the world.

In October 2023, Vincent spoke to the Guardian about his pro-life views when he took part in an experiment where he had dinner with a man who held different political opinions.

The association's Instagram page claims the group's purpose is “to support the dignity of every human life.”

He said: I recognize how much pain there must be for a woman in this situation. But I don't think an abortion solves that problem, the trauma doesn't go away.

'We have to support them. And if that means adoption, we shouldn't exclude people because they gave up their child.'

The association's treasurer is Jacob Karinatan, a medical student whose favorite book is Lord of the Rings.

A female student at the University of Manchester told the newspaper on Monday Independent said the association's founding was “the beginning of a Margaret Atwood novel” and accused the student association of “enabling misogynistic hate speech.”

Heather Bowling, a second-year linguistics student, said, “Society makes me feel weak and inferior to my male counterparts. I have received endless messages from girls who fear for their safety.'

She further accused the SU of representing the interests of the men who founded the association, ahead of the many thousands who had signed the petition.

FEMAIL has contacted the university's student association for comment.

Heather revealed that she has spoken to women on campus who have had abortions in the past and who say they now feel “personally victimized and threatened” by society's presence.

Another student who has opted for an abortion in the past recalled the “feelings of guilt” she experienced at the time, which she said were made worse by the things “people say” about abortion.

While she acknowledged that she believes in free speech, she added, “I don't understand why men form anti-abortion groups when there are so many men's issues they can work on.”

Amid criticism of the group's “all-male” origins, the Manchester Pro-Life Society announced on Tuesday that the committee had gained two new female members: Inge-Maria as vice-president and Lajoie as diversity and inclusion officer.

Inge-Maria studies dental hygiene and therapy, while Lajoie studies pediatric nursing.

As backlash against the society grows, a competing Instagram profile titled 'Stop Manchester Pro-Life' has been set up, encouraging people to organize and protest against the controversial society.

She has organized what she describes as a “peaceful demonstration” against society on February 29 – the same date the Pro-Life group has scheduled its first meeting.

When contacted by FEMAIL, a spokesperson for the Instagram campaign said: 'This isn't just a women's issue, it affects everyone assigned female at birth and there are plenty of male allies and people of different genders supporting us.'

They added that campaign leaders “understand freedom of speech” but claimed the Pro-Life group “continues to post facts and statistics that are simply inaccurate and have no source.”

“We call on the university to do something,” the report concluded.

In a statement to FEMAIL, Manchester University's Pro-Life Society said: 'The Pro-Life Society exists to promote the well-being and dignity of every human life, from conception.

'We are a positive society that exists primarily to help and support people at all stages of life. We exist to encourage students to think critically about the way we define and value human life.”

The statement continued to claim that the membership is diverse, with women playing a “critical role” in the association's work.

It added: However, we believe that these issues are relevant and important to people of both genders, they affect everyone. The right to life is not a gender-specific issue. It is also important to point out that we are not an anti-abortion society, but a pro-life society.

'This means that while we oppose abortion, we are also concerned about other threats to life, including assisted suicide, the death penalty, deaths from poverty and poor living standards, structural problems in critical infrastructure such as the NHS , and climate change.”

The statement added that the association will “promote a culture of campus life” by organizing events and fundraising, as well as “campaigning for greater support for students who are pregnant or parenting from the university, the student association and the government'.

The association also alleged that its members and supporters were subjected to “hatred,” which it denounced.

“We hope that in the future we can have reasonable and dignified conversations with everyone so that we can create a better campus and society, one in which everyone is valued and respected,” the report concluded.

The association did not specify who had directed “hatred” against its members – but an edit of the Change.org petition emphasized that the purpose of the movement was “in no way to call for any intimidation or intimidation of the members/committee of the Pro movement'. Live society personally'.

An Irishman who was stalked for a decade by his obsessed female ex-lover has told how he was told to 'deal with it himself' before fleeing to Britain.

Filmmaker Jarlath Rice told Virgin Media One's new documentary Stalked that the depressing ordeal was 'very humiliating'. He previously said it brought him to the brink of suicide.

He revealed that people told him to “sort it out himself” and claimed that after calling the Garda “so many times” he was told by a security guard that if he contacted them again they would “lock me up for the night – problem solved '.

Lina Tantash began a “sinister and sustained” campaign against Jarlath, bombarding him with messages and demanding he see her after accusing him of breaking a 21-clause “love contract”.

They had a brief sexual relationship after first meeting in a Dublin cafe – and it was only after Jarlath fled to Britain that Tantash was convicted of her crime in 2018. In Ireland, the crime of stalking did not come into force until November 2023. .

In the documentary, which aired on Monday, Jarlath recalled leaving a note from Tantash asking if she could go to the cafe with him. The Irish sun.

He said he found this way of first meeting “kind of cute and a bit funny” and that he “didn't get any funny feelings” from Tantash, who gave him her number.

But after seeing each other for weeks, he broke it off. When she continued to contact him, he told her he no longer wanted a relationship with her and asked her to leave him alone.

But she refused to say he owed her more than €50,000 and even drew up a 'love contract' stating he had to stop denying they were in a relationship.

It also said he had to live with her three days a week, speak to her on the phone for at least 15 minutes every evening and be nice to her.

The Irishman constantly received calls, messages and emails from Tantash – and despite repeatedly changing numbers, she always managed to get hold of it.

She even hired a private investigator to track him down and contacted his friends, family and colleagues.

Jarlath claimed she threatened suicide and he even filmed her kicking in his door in 2012. But when he called the Garda he was apparently waved away.

'I called the police so many times. The guard said if I called again he would lock me up overnight – the problem was solved,” Jarlath claimed.

In April 2014, Jarlath and his then-girlfriend were leaving his home when Tantash 'physically attacked' him and 'yelled' at his girlfriend.

'She tore out my shoulder socket. I felt it pop and I was in pain. She tried to stab me through a glass window. “I really thought she was going to kill me,” he said.

Tantash was fined after pleading guilty to a Section 2 assault charge and threatening behavior in a public place, the publication reported.

Jarlath fought desperately to escape Tantash's attention and eventually moved from Dublin to Brighton, East Sussex, where he began working as a lecturer at a university.

But Tantash, then a 'highly respected' project manager at the prestigious Trinity College Dublin, followed him from Dublin and took up a new role in London.

Her campaign of intimidation escalated after she suspected Jarlath had started a relationship with colleague Sarah Bolland.

Miss Bolland, who had no relationship with Mr Rice, was devastated by the abusive phone calls.

They had a brief sexual relationship after first meeting in a Dublin cafe - and it was only after Jarlath fled to Britain that Tantash was convicted of her crime in 2018. In Ireland, the crime of stalking did not come into force until November 2023.

But after reporting her behavior to police in England, where stalking has been a crime since 2012, Tantash was eventually arrested.

She was charged with one count of stalking Mr Rice between July 2015 and February 2018 and one count of stalking Miss Bolland. She was convicted after a trial at Brighton Magistrates' Court.

Tantash was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of two counts of stalking in 2018.

In a victim impact statement at the time of her sentencing, Jarlath said the campaign of stalking had left him on the brink of suicide and in 'despair'.

He said: 'For over a decade I have had to live with verbal, mental and physical abuse. The aggressive and abusive dismantling of my life has left me vulnerable, scared and exhausted.”

He said: “He had been 'pushed deep into depression', adding: 'At worst I went through periods of despair with thoughts of suicide.'

In her defense, Tantash said she came from a stable, upper-middle class family but suffered from mental illness.

She claimed to have paid Jarlath's significant debts and supported his career in exchange for a romantic commitment.

Ms Bolland said: 'It's a strange and terrible experience when someone harasses you so psychologically. It's a terrible feeling. It's amazing how much impact it can have on your life, your mood, your thoughts.”

Teresa Mulrooney, defending, said: 'Miss Tantash deeply regrets her behavior and has come to understand its impact.'

In 2018, police figures showed that a third of stalking victims were male; Between 2014 and 2017, 41 of Britain's 46 police forces dealt with 1,800 cases of stalking against men.

But it is believed that this figure was actually much higher, as around 85 percent of stalking victims do not report the incident to the police.

According to the Crime Survey for England and Wales, more than 1.2 million people were stalked in the year ending March 2016, of which 759,000 were women and the remaining 450,000 were men.

Figures obtained by BBC 5 Live investigates found that nearly half (47 percent) of stalking crimes reported by male victims were committed by other men.

The Freedom of Information request showed figures from 41 of 46 British police forces questioned about stalking.

British model Suki Waterhouse showed off her baby bump in a white crop top under a light gray winter coat while in Los Angeles on Thursday.

The 32-year-old is awaiting the arrival of her first child with boyfriend of six years, Twilight star Robert Pattinson.

The Daisy Jones & The Six actress wore her honey blonde hair past her shoulders and wore light makeup with yellow-tinted sunglasses as she left private club The San Vicente Bungalows.

On the red carpet, she was often spotted chatting with a male friend wearing a crisp white shirt.

The star carried a large black handbag while also chatting on her mobile phone.

And she showed off a diamond ring on her wedding finger as she walked to a white car.

The star also wore a long black skirt and black chunky Prada loafers with white ankle socks.

Strangely, one sock was pushed down and the other was worn over her ankle.

This comes after she made quite the impression at the Emmy Awards last month in a nude dress with a long train.

Waterhouse had her Emmy dress redesigned to fit her growing baby bump, she explained.

Suki has revealed that designers had to 'really redesign the dress' to flatter her current figure.

Suki — who wore a red backless Valentino dress to the awards ceremony in Los Angeles — told E! News: 'I was really excited about this look. I tried it a few months ago, but… when trying it on I just held it against my body.

“So they really had to take it apart and redesign this dress so it fit the stomach properly. But it does work and I'm very happy that it worked.'

Suki announced her pregnancy in November when she performed at the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico.

The singer surprised her fans by sharing the news with them.

Suki – who was wearing a glittery pink mini dress and feathered coat at the time – said: 'I'm extra sparkly today because I thought it might distract you from something else going on.'

The actress jokingly added, “I'm not sure it works!”

Suki and Robert have been together for six years, and an insider previously revealed that the loved-up couple felt “ready for a child.”

Suki also feels “excited” by the challenge of motherhood.

The source told People, “They are ready for a child and looking forward to becoming parents. Even though they are both professionals who work a lot, this is something they want.

“They know their lives are going to change, and they're excited.”

Suki is also in the new BOSS campaign with Gisele Bundchen.

Gisele became a 10-meter hologram to celebrate Boss's new spring 2024 campaign.

Giant images of Suki, Gisele and South Korean star Lee Min-Ho were beamed in front of London's Tower Bridge on Wednesday as an 'expression' of the brand's 'exploration' into technology.

Nadia Kokni, senior vice president of global marketing and brand communications at Hugo Boss, said: “Innovation plays a prominent role in our strategy to achieve consumer impact at scale and create something intriguing.

'The hologram is the most current expression of our exploration and curiosity about harnessing the power of technology in our communications.'

The campaign is accompanied by videos telling customers: 'The voice is yours.'

The Spring 2024 campaign is described as a “journey of self-determination” and Kokni believes the holograms can encourage consumers to form a deeper connection with Boss.

She added: 'The novelty it brings also helps us create engaging content that is hugely shareable and memorable, providing a new experience to our audience, resulting in positive associations with our brand.'

Suki and Robert started dating in 2018 and are known for their low-key nature. Despite being together for the past five years, the singer revealed in October that she and Robert had only just moved in together. They are both based in London.
