Biden AVOIDS the Election Day Spotlight – As Exit Poll Shows 73% Of Voters Angry Or Dissatisfied With The State Of The US: The President Lies Low In The White House To Do Radio Interviews And Make Phone Calls While He bracing for Democrat defeats

  • The president, who has been campaigning for Democrats in states across the country in recent days, gave a radio interview to the DL Hughley Show
  • The White House called for a lid at 11:25 a.m. meaning the media could go home as the president would no longer be seen in public on Tuesday
  • In the afternoon, Biden made a series of phone calls with Democratic operatives
  • On Monday, Biden rallied for Democrats in Maryland before briefly touring New York, Pennsylvania, California, Illinois, New Mexico and Florida over the past week.

President Biden chose to keep a low profile and refrain from public appearances to boost his party on Election Day, instead giving just one radio interview before retiring from the public eye by noon .

The president, who has been campaigning for Democrats in states across the country in recent days, gave a radio interview on the DL Hughley Show Tuesday morning. Biden used the radio hit to tout his administration’s achievements for black Americans.

The White House called for a lid at 11:25 a.m., meaning the media could go home because the president would no longer be seen in public on Tuesday.

In the afternoon, the White House said Biden called a virtual DNC phone bank to thank staff and volunteers. He then spoke individually by phone with Democratic Governors Association Chairman Roy Cooper, DCCC Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney, DSCC Chairman Gary Peters and DNC Senior Advisor Cedric Richmond. Maloney, DN.Y., faces his own tight re-election race today.

The president also spoke jointly with DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

President Biden chose to keep a low profile and refrain from public appearances to boost his party on Election Day, instead giving just one radio interview before retiring from the public eye by noon .

On Monday night, Biden rallied for Democrats in Maryland, before spending brief stints in New York, Pennsylvania, California, Illinois, New Mexico and Florida over the past week.

Biden, who previously voted early in Delaware, told reporters Monday how he felt about the election: “I’m optimistic. But I’m always optimistic.’

He said he thinks Democrats can hold either chamber, but acknowledged the headwinds they face.

A CNN/Edison study exit poll found that 73 percent of Americans who left the voting booth were angry or dissatisfied with the state of affairs in the US, while 25 percent were enthusiastic or satisfied.

About 33 percent of voters cited inflation as their top concern, while 27 percent cited abortion. The rest were divided on crime, gun policy and immigration as their main concerns.

Georgia voters cast their ballot on Election Day

Georgia voters cast their ballot on Election Day

A quarter of the respondents were positive about the current economy, three quarters were negative, about 4 in 10 felt downright poor.

That’s much more pessimistic than the last midterm elections — in 2018 — when 68 percent of voters said the economy was good or excellent, and 2020, when 49 percent of respondents said the same.

Biden’s approval rating stands at 45 percent, according to exit polls, nearly identical to Donald Trump’s during the 2018 midterm elections, when Republicans lost control of the House but increased their Senate majority by two seats. But voters are twice as likely to strongly disapprove of Biden this time around as they were in 2018.

Top Republicans have admitted their predicted ‘red wave’ has not materialised after a disappointing night in the midterm elections, with many laying the blame on ‘toxic’ Donald Trump.

Pollsters had forecast a heavy blow for Joe Biden at the midpoint of his four-year term, believing Republicans would make huge gains in the House and tip the balance in the Senate to seize control of Congress.

But initial results have thrown up a number of surprising Democrat wins, with many GOP candidates backed by Trump faltering at the polls, with some suggesting the party should move beyond the former president.

He endorsed some 300 candidates, held 30 rallies and raised millions of dollars for his ‘army’ of candidates, hoping a ‘red tsnuami’ would set him up for a sweeping 2024 success.

But overnight, many of Trump’s chosen candidates crashed and burned.

Early analysis also shows that in counties with Trump-backed candidates, the Republican vote share increased by just 1.3 percent compared with 6.9 percent in counties where he wasn’t involved in the race.

The House, the lower chamber of Congress which has been under narrow Democrat control, is likely to still turn Red but only by a razor thin margin.

The Senate, the higher chamber where only a third of the seats were up for grabs, is hanging in the balance after the Democrats won a number of crucial swing states.

Although many results have not been declared, the early signs suggest a huge boost for Biden who faced becoming a lame duck president for the remainder of his administration, and a damaging blow to Trump, who is expected to announce his White House bid next week.

‘This is a pivot point for the Republican party. Donald Trump is no doubt in the rearview mirror. It is time to move on with the party,’ Geoff Duncan, the Republican Lt. Governor of Georgia, told CNN.

Republican senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina told NBC news: ‘Definitely not a Republican wave, that’s for darn sure.’

And Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said: ‘It hasn’t been as big of a wave as I’d hoped it would be. We’ve had some close races go the other way so far.’

One of the biggest Democrat scalps of the night was in Pennsylvania, where Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, who suffered a stroke just months ago, seized a Republican-held seat, beating the favoured TV star Dr Oz who used to star on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

The state was a major battleground, with Trump heavily endorsing Dr Oz and appearing at a number of campaign events in Pennsylvania, while Barack Obama, Biden and Oprah came out in support for Fetterman.

The midterm elections determine the future of Biden’s agenda and serve as a referendum on his administration as the nation reels from record-high inflation and concerns over the direction of the country.

Republican control of the house would likely trigger a round of investigations into Mr Biden and his family, while a senate takeover would hinder his ability to make judicial appointments.

The party in power almost always suffers losses in the President’s first midterm elections, but Democrats had been hoping that anger from the US supreme court’s decision to gut abortion rights might energise their voters.

‘Definitely not a Republican wave, that’s for darn sure,’ Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said

Fetterman BEATS Dr. Oz in crucial Pennsylvania Senate race

Democratic Senate hopeful John Fetterman beat Dr. Oz in the must-win Pennsylvania Senate race in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

‘We launched this campaign almost two years ago – and we had our slogan – and it’s on every one of those signs right now: every county, every vote,’ Fetterman said to a rowdy crowd still gathered at Stage AE in Pittsburgh. ‘And that’s exactly what happened – we jammed them up. We held the line.’

‘I never expected that we would turn these red counties blue, but we did what we needed to do,’ he continued. ‘And that’s why tonight I’ll be the next U.S. senator from Pennsylvania,’ Fetterman added.

A short time later, the White House said President Joe Biden texted Fetterman congratulations.

Fetterman had faced questions about his fitness for office after suffering a stroke just days before the state’s primary, but he nonetheless bested Republican Dr Mehmet Oz in a major rebuke to Trump, whose endorsement helped Oz win his competitive primary.

Ignoring the races where his favorites lost, Trump told followers on Truth Social that it had been a ‘GREAT EVENING’. In an interview yesterday, he said he deserved credit if Republicans won – but shouldn’t be blamed in the scenario of a loss.

‘If they win I should get all the credit. And if they lose, I should not be blamed at all. But it will probably be just the opposite. When they win, I think they’re going to do very well, I’ll probably be getting very little credit, and if they do badly, they will blame everything on me.

‘I’m prepared for everything. We’ll defend ourselves.’

He also took credit for Ron DeSantis 2018 win, saying he ‘was not going to be a factor’ in the race before his endorsement.

‘He was not going to be able to even be a factor in the race. And as soon within moments, the race was over.

‘I got him the nomination. He didn’t get it. I got it, because the minute I made that endorsement, he got it.’

‘Then he ran and he wasn’t supposed to be able to win. I did two rallies, we had 52,000 people each one and he won. I thought that he could have been more gracious. But that’s up to him.’

In recent weeks and months, a rivalry has formed between the pair, with each man widely expected to launch a 2024 Presidential campaign. At a rally this weekend, Trump referred to the Florida Governor as ‘Ron De-Sanctimonious’.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, during an appearance on Good Morning America, said Trump’s instincts were ‘about himself’ and not ‘about the party’.

‘The big problem is that everywhere, the atmosphere and nationally, where Republicans lost, they lost because we had inferior candidates.

‘Mitch McConnell previewed this.

‘Almost every one of these Trump-backed candidates lost.

‘It shows his political instincts are not about the party, they are not about the country, they are about him.’

Erick Erickson, a longtime GOP commentator, told the Washington Post: ‘Candidate quality matters.

‘They weren’t good candidates. They had more allegiance to him than anything else.

‘The GOP might still win both [chambers] but this is not the night they expected.’

As of 6.30am ET, eight Trump backed candidates had lost including one senate race, four house candidates and three governors

Early analysis also shows that in counties with Trump-backed candidates, the Republican vote share increased by just 1.3 percent compared with 6.9 percent in counties where he wasn't involved in the race

Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul clings on to BEAT Republican Lee Zeldin in New York

New York Democratic governor Kathy Hochul managed to turn back a challenge from Republican Lee Zeldin to cling to the governor’s mansion in what had become a competitive race in a Blue-leaning state.

The race tightened in the polls in recent weeks as Zeldin, a U.S. Republican House representative, hammered Hochul on crime and other issues while getting a Donald Trump endorsement and fundraising support from the former president.

NBC called the race for Hochul, and she tweeted she was ‘deeply honored’ to have been elected.  She was leading 55-45 with nearly two thirds of the vote in Tuesday night.

Zeldin refused to concede, telling supporters his position would improve as more votes come in from Long Island.

Representative Kevin McCarthy, the Republican poised to be house speaker if the party takes control of the chamber, sounded a note of optimism as he told supporters: ‘When you wake up tomorrow, we will be in the majority.’

Democratic house speaker Nancy Pelosi said: ‘While many races remain too close to call, it is clear that House Democratic Members and candidates are strongly outperforming expectations across the country.’

In the race for the house of representatives, Democrats kept seats in districts from Virginia to Kansas and Rhode Island, while many districts in states like New York and California had not been called.

Meanwhile, Republican candidate J.D. Vance, who was endorsed by Donald Trump, won Ohio’s Senate seat against Democrat Tim Ryan.

His was among the most high-profile races in the country. But New Hampshire Democrat Sen. Maggie Hassan was able to hang onto her seat, depriving the GOP of a potential pickup opportunity as part of its hope for a takeover.

And Democrats were heartened when they held onto two out of three Virginia House seats that were heavily targeted by Republicans: Democrats Abigail Spanberger and Jennifer Wexton won their races while Democrat Elaine Luria fell to her GOP competition.

Luria’s seat – along with a victory by GOP candidate Andy Ogles in Tennessee’s 5th district and two Florida House seat wins – has the House majority within Republicans’ grasp.

In another good sign for Democrats, their candidate Seth Magaziner won in a Rhode Island House seat that was heavily contested by both parties. And Democratic Rep. Andy Kim hung on in New Jersey in what was seen as a close race.

Biden made a series of congratulatory calls to Democrats on Tuesday night, including Democratic Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado, who was in a tough than expected re-election campaign.

Republican Ted Budd won retiring Sen. Richard Burr’s Senate seat in North Carolina, keeping it in GOP hands by defeating Democrat Cheri Beasley, 51 to 47 per cent with 95 per cent of precincts reporting.

But other key Senate races in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and Wisconsin are too close to call.

Biden’s calls included  Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who won a fifth term and became the longest serving Democratic senator in New York.

The White House released a photo of Biden on the phone, dressed casually in gray sweatshirt and baseball cap, cell phone in hand.

Georgia likely heading for a December runoff

Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock holds less than a one point lead over Republican ex-NFL star Herschel Walker in the key Senate race that will likely head to a runoff election in December that could decide which party takes the majority.

With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Warnock was up by about 31,000 votes, leading Walker 49.4 to 48.6, on a night that Democrats across the country defied the odds and a GOP red wave failed to materialize.

Warnock had 1,922,548 votes to Walker’s 1,891,284.

If neither candidate breaches the 50 percent threshold, the race heads to a December 6 runoff, per Georgia’s election law.

A third-party Libertarian will likely prevent either candidate from cinching a majority.

The path is reminiscent of 2020 for Warnock, when he was forced into a runoff with then-incumbent GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler and came out on top.

Republicans took a few important early wins in Tuesday night’s midterm election with Gov. Ron DeSantis and Senator Marco Rubio racking up victories in Florida.

The DeSantis and Rubio wins in the Sunshine state cemented Republicans’ grip there. Donald Trump has made it his new home state and is spending election night at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach.

‘Marco had a fantastic evening,’ Trump said in brief remarks where he pointed to a handful of winners he had endorsed, without mentioning DeSantis.

DeSantis’ win sets up an intriguing dynamic for the next two years. He’s rumored to be considering at 2024 bid. Trump, who helped DeSantis win his first gubernatorial race, will announce his White House intentions next week.

Trump held a campaign rally with Rubio in Miami on Sunday while DeSantis held a competing rally in another part of the state. Still, the former president said he voted for DeSantis when he cast his ballot in Palm Beach on Tuesday morning.

DeSantis defeated Democrat Charlie Crist, who had previously served the state as a GOP governor before he switched parties. Crist campaigned with President Joe Biden last week but that couldn’t help him across the victory line.

In another governor’s race, Democrat Wes Moore won the gubernatorial race in Maryland. He will be the first black governor in that state. President Biden and first lady Jill Biden campaigned for him on Monday night – their final rally of the 2022 midterm election.

Democrat Josh Shapiro won the governor’s race in Pennsylvania.

In Arkansas, Republican Sarah Huckabee Sanders won the gubernatorial mansion. Her father also served as governor of the state. Huckabee Sanders became a national figure when she served as White House press secretary for President Donald Trump.

And, in Texas, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott won a second term, beating Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke.

In Georgia, Democrat Stacey Abrams called Republican Gov. Brian Kemp concede. Kemp held off a second challenge from Abrams – whom he defeated four years ago – and the fury of Donald Trump to win a second term.

Zeldin refused to concede, telling supporters his position would improve as more votes come in from Long Island.

Voters said inflation was their top concern this election year, exit polls found, followed closely by abortion.

As the first polls close across the nation, about 33% of voters called inflation the most important issue as they cast their ballot, according to the exit polls of voters conducted by the television networks, with about 27% citing abortion.

Other voters cited crime, gun policy and immigration as their chief concerns.

In troubling signs for Biden, three-quarters of the electorate that voted Tuesday felt negative about the economy and more than three-quarters said that inflation has caused hardship for them and their family over the past year, the exit polls found.

They gave the president a 45% approval rating for his time in the Oval Office, citing their unhappiness with the economy.

Biden’s low numbers had many Democrats – particularly those in close contests – holding the president at arms’ length as they tried to disassociate their candidacy with his track record.

The exit polls found that about half of voters said that Biden was not a factor in their vote, while about 18% said their vote was to express support for Biden, and about one-third that it was to express opposition to him.

All 435 seats in the House and one-third of the Senate, along with several governor races, are being decided on Tuesday. Results could take several days to process as votes are counted. Many Senate and governors races were polling within the margin of error.

Many will see Tuesday’s results a message voters are sending about President Biden’s first two years in the Oval Office.

In the days leading up to Election Day, Biden stuck mainly to blue areas of the country, trying to get Democrats to come out for the party.

He spent Tuesday behind-closed-doors at the White House. He called into a morning radio show and did thank you calls to Democratic officials.

Top Republicans including Senators Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz admitted that the predicted ‘red wave’ had not materialized as Democrats were victorious in crucial House races and won a Senate seats  in Nevada.

‘Definitely not a Republican wave, that’s for darn sure,’ GOP Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told NBC News just hours after the GOP started the night strong with Ron DeSantis’ landslide victory in the Florida Governor race.

And Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said: ‘It hasn’t been as big of a wave as I’d hoped it would be. We’ve had some close races go the other way so far.’

Republicans were still predicted to take the majority in the House, but the Senate is set to go down to the wire.

Democrats appeared to take one of the biggest prizes of the night, when CNN called Pennsylvania for Democratic  Lt. Gov. John Fetterman over Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz. That would represent a takeaway over a Republican-held seat – substantially improving the Democrats’ chances of keeping the chamber under party control.

Voters were still coming in from the West, where Democrats were fighting to protect seats in Arizona and Nevada, with a key race in Georgia too close to call.

And even with a GOP House takeover, Republicans could be looking at a narrower majority than they were expecting – and one that might strain splits within the Republican Conference.

Meanwhile, Republican candidate J.D. Vance, who was endorsed by Donald Trump, won Ohio’s Senate seat against Democrat Tim Ryan. His victory kept the Senate seat in the GOP column.

His was among the most high-profile races in the country. But New Hampshire Sen.

Meanwhile, Republicans have picked up a few House victories.

In Florida’s seventh district, GOP candidate Cory Mills won the race to replace retiring Democratic Representative Stephanie Murphy. But the district was heavily gerrymandered by Republicans during the redistricting process, making it a hard seat for Democrats to keep in their column.

And in Florida’s 13th district, Republican Anna Paulina Luna won the seat Democrat Charlie Crist left for his unsuccessful gubernatorial run.

Democrats retained several Senate seats: Patty Murray in Washington state, Peter Welch in Vermont, Richard Blumenthal in Connecticut, Tammy Duckworth in Florida, and Chris Van Hollen in Maryland.

And Republicans kept several in their column with Tim Scott’s victory in South Carolina, Chuck Grassley in Iowa, John Thune in South Dakota, John Kennedy in Louisiana, Rand Paul in Kentucky, Jerry Moran in Kansas, John Boozman in Arkansas, Todd Young in Indiana, Markwayne Mullin’s in Oklahoma, and Katie Britt’s in Alabama. Britt is the first female elected to the Senate from Alabama.

The midterms arrive at a volatile point in America.
