This is the moment a passenger plane carrying 179 passengers made a terrifying landing on a muddy runway after landing on ice in Lithuania.

Startling video showed a huge Airbus A320 careening across the tarmac after making a daring landing at Vilnius airport on Saturday after a two-hour journey from the Italian city of Bergamo.

The plane, owned by Lithuanian company Avion Express, was desperately trying to steady itself when an explosion of mud and water battered the plane, forcing the birds to scatter in a movie-like drama.

The plane's hero pilot responded quickly and was able to safely taxi the plane off the runway to a safe zone where all passengers and six crew members were able to disembark without reporting any injuries.

The plane suffered damage to its lower panels, Italian media reported, and the incident forced the airport to halt all incoming and outgoing flights for about two and a half hours on Saturday before reopening to air traffic.

Photos of the aftermath showed the plane covered in mud from front to tail, against the backdrop of an icy forest landscape.

As it floats to the right, the left side of the plane absorbs much of the dirt, but the other side is covered in a thick layer of brown.

Cones were deployed and emergency vehicles were spotted around the runway after the plane landed.

The incident, which occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, forced the closure of runway 19 until 5:40 p.m. and briefly closed the airport, aviation news outlet FL360aero reports reported.

Instead, incoming flights were diverted to Kaunas and Palanga airports, both in Lithuania.

Avion Express confirmed to MailOnline today that flight NVD8242 'slid off the runway after landing'.

A spokesperson said an investigation by Avion Express and local authorities is “currently ongoing” to determine the exact cause of the incident.

“The most important thing is that all 179 passengers and our 6 crew members are safe and have not suffered any injuries during the incident.

“During the incident, the passengers were calm and followed the instructions of our crew members. We offer our sincere apologies and sincere support to everyone who was on board.”

The incident caused a stir on social media, with users commenting on the shocking images.

X user beerbaba wrote: 'A great landing for the passengers.'

Alvis Harding Jr said: 'I had no idea you could drift a 320.'

Linda Kavinsky commented: 'What a great recovery.'

In December, an easyJet flight from Gatwick, also with 179 people on board, came within 50 meters of a plane waiting to take off at Bordeaux airport in France, shocking onlookers.

The Airbus A320 was preparing to land at Bordeaux-Mérignac airport on New Year's Eve when, due to an air traffic control error, it was cleared to land while another plane was preparing to take off.

An investigation report into the incident cited several contributing factors, including a “significant reduction in staffing levels,” which resulted in one controller managing four stations simultaneously, “which could potentially lead to oversight.”

The investigation concluded that the DR400 pilot's “awareness and proactive action,” intercepting communications and alerting ATC, prevented the error from becoming a potentially devastating accident.

A shocking photo in the BEA report showed the approach of the huge A320 aircraft while the DR400 was still on the runway.

As traffic became 'very heavy', the controller then cleared the A320 to land, 'forgetting the presence of the DR400 on the threshold'.

'The DR400 pilot, having understood that the A320 was cleared to land while still at threshold 23, reported to the controller who immediately instructed the A320 to abort the approach.'

The controller reportedly looked 'lost' when the Airbus requested guidance.

The plane, at an altitude of just 232 feet and 3,280 feet (1,000 meters) from the runway threshold, flew over the DR400 at an altitude of 178 feet, according to the report.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

Tika currently has a wardrobe of 400 luxury items, and when she's not walking the catwalks around the world, she enjoys a tailor-made raw and fresh diet alone.

Owner Thomas spends an average of $60 a week on Tika's food – about $500 every two months.

Thomas and his partner, Louis, 36, have two children together, Harrison, two, and Eleanor, one, as well as a one-year-old Italian greyhound called Kala, who they also enjoy dressing up in a range of luxury attire.

While many of Tika's garments are donated due to her sponsorships with brands, full-time content creator Thomas said of Tika's impressive closet, “All of her clothes are custom made.”

“They can range from $100 to $170 per item. Most of the dresses are worth between $170 and $510.”

Because Montreal's climate is often cold, rainy or glazed with layers of ice and snow, Thomas and Louis, a project manager, always dressed Tika in clothes.

Thomas said: 'Breeds like Greyhounds are like people, she had a wardrobe before we even started sharing photos online. We live in Canada and it is always cold and rainy. You have to be prepared.'

In 2016, Thomas started posting Tika's outfits online, drawing inspiration from the likes of Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and Cher.

He said: 'I get most of my inspiration from the current catwalks, but also from people like Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and Cher – you know the icons.'

After quickly amassing a large following online, the polished pup has now had the opportunity to work with major fashion brands like Boss, Dior, Chanel, Fendi and Vogue.

The fame has also given Tika the privilege of walking the catwalk at fashion weeks around the world.

Every day Tika wears more practical clothes and wears a romper, overcoat, boots, hat and snood.

Thomas said: 'When choosing an outfit it can vary. If it is daily, we strive for comfort. For her, she wears a romper, she's very used to it.'

Once Tika 'retires', the younger dog Kala is also ready to follow in the diva dog's footsteps.

Thomas said, “Kala will take over. But she's not slowing down and we'll never force her.”

Tika and Kala follow a strict diet to ensure they stay fit, healthy and camera-ready, but are treated to food packed with protein and high fiber.

Thomas explained, “We always give them freeze-dried raw food. We give them supplements and we give them fresh fruit and vegetables. The girls are loving it and they are in great shape.”

Not only are the four-legged friends spoiled with endless designer clothes, foreign trips and a tasty, varied diet – the dogs get a king-size bed to sleep next to their owners.

Tika and Kala can sleep up to 21 hours a day and have twelve dog beds throughout the house, but Thomas insists the dogs feel more comfortable near a heat source.

He said: 'They sleep with me and my husband in a king size bed. They are always looking for warmth, they like to be near you.'

Thomas believes Tika is a 'trendsetter' and 'icon', claiming that Tika has paved the way for fashion brands to expand their range of pet clothing, while inspiring fellow dog owners to dress their pups in couture clothing.

He said: “Other dogs are dressing up now. I think Tika started this. If you go into a store there are more options for dogs than there were five to six years ago.”

Meanwhile, another dog in Australia is living her best life with inspired, artful meals that look like they were made in a Michelin-star restaurant – with ingredients like caviar, elk and salmon on the menu.
