It is no longer so new to go glamping or book a staycation.

So how about a ‘picklecore’ break or a ‘sportcation’? Maybe a ‘relative’ outing?

According to experts, these are the holiday trends that will capture our imagination in 2024.

Picklecore refers to the sport of pickleball, which combines tennis, ping pong and badminton, and is loved by celebrities such as Emma Watson, Kim Kardashian and George Clooney. It is now possible to plan an entire trip around the pastime.

Similarly, sports holidays are activities-focused holidays, while relative getaways involve trips where you relax by being active.

Also among the trends predicted by active holiday company Neilson Beach Clubs is ‘boomerang tourism’, where adult children go on multi-generational holidays with their parents. There is also the ‘solo moon’, where travelers go away alone.

A survey by OnePoll for the travel agency showed that 91 percent of holidaymakers in 2023 participated in a combination of activities during their holiday.

Paddleboarding, fitness classes and waterskiing were the activities guests enjoyed most, followed by wakeboarding and mountain biking.

David Taylor, CEO of Neilson Beach Clubs, said: ‘People are increasingly using their time away from work to not only mentally recharge their batteries, but also stay physically fit.

‘We call this switching off by switching on.’
