The Inbetweeners' James Buckley and Joe Thomas were reunited on Tuesday as they posed for an Instagram selfie.

The actors, who played characters Jay Cartwright and Simon Cooper, seemed happy to see each other as they were all smiles in an instant.

They showed that their friendship is still strong, almost a decade after the hit franchise – which followed four teenage boys working their way through sixth grade – ended for good.

James, 36, wrote: 'Me and Joe recently. By the way, he's on Instagram @itsjoethomas.'

Fans of the hit E4 sitcom took to the comments, begging the stars for a 'reunion' episode and also referencing the show's famous catchphrase, 'Oooo friend'.

One wrote: 'I honestly don't think you guys look older than you do on the show'

Another agreed: 'Honestly if they just shaved they could easily make a new series of the inbetweeners'

A third said: 'I agree. That would be so good, even if it's just a one-time special.'

Another said: 'I could easily do Inbetweeners again, you guys don't look much older than you do on the show!!

“Would honestly be the best TV comeback show ever.”

Several other fans referenced the show, adding, “Oooooooooooh FRIEND.”

“A podcast with the four of you would LITERALLY break the internet…I'd pay ANYTHING for it to become a reality,” another added.

Although The Inbetweeners initially got off to a bad start, the show has since been described as one of the most successful British sitcoms of the 21st century.

During its initial run, the sitcom spanned three series and two films between 2008 and 2010.

The franchise wrapped in 2014 and the stars have all since moved on to other projects.

Simon Bird – who played the studious Will McKenzie – had a long-running role in Friday Night Dinner, while Blake appeared opposite Brenda Blethyn in the short-lived ITV1 sitcom Kate and played Koji and Joe in White Gold.

James has 'surprised' himself by becoming the highest-paid star on Cameo after raking in £1million by handing out personalized messages for fans on the celebrity website.

The actor recently explained that despite the success of the series, a reboot could never be planned because the jokes could no longer be made these days.

He said: 'It was all justified because they were never the heroes. They were idiots and they got what they deserved.

'That's why it can't come back. You can't have guys in their late 30s acting like they're in sixth grade and getting away with it.”

James added that despite constantly being asked to bring the show back, there is “no amount of money” that made him agree to it.

“I always get asked if I would ever do more and I said, 'For no money' and that quote was walked off. I didn't mean about money; it means more to me than money.”

'I'm always surprised by the success of anything'

The series even spawned two films, but James doesn't believe it could ever return (The Inbetweeners 2, 2014)
