The new Plus key from OnePlus gives users a hardware coupling to AI, to replace the fan-favorite warning shuffle regulator

OnePlus has announced OnePlus AI, and although the vision of the Chinese company for mobile artificial intelligence mainly comes through new software, the list of changes contains an update of one of the most iconic hardware functions in the brand.
The new Plus key is a physical button that replaces the three-phase warning slide. The button can be adjusted in settings to activate one of the different functions, such as opening the camera or starting a live translation.
The new hardware function will make its debut with the OnePlus 13S, an only China model that is previously known as the OnePlus 13 Mini In online rumors.
OnePlus has confirmed that the plus key will come to all OnePlus smartphones this year that roll out this year -we would at least expect that this will comprise the rumors OnePlus 14 and OnePlus 14r, which would launch the One Plus 15 in China in China in China in 2025.

During the official OnePlus AI Reveal event I spoke with Arthur Lam, director of Oxygenos and AI strategy at OnePlus, about how the Plus Key and AI Plus Mind work together.
“The thinking process behind it was that we wanted to take AI that enabled you to do various things. And I think one of the biggest things was that we live in this digital era where we have many fragmented memories in several places,” said Lam.
“We believe that this is not a solution for software alone,” Lam continued, “it is a hardware software solution; that makes the unique OnePlus.”
When OnePlus announced the end of the warning slide, I wrote that I had always found it as a useful and charismatic addition to the hand sets of the brand. Even with the fan favorite status of the Alert Slider, Lam tells me that the company is sure that it is time for an update.
‘People ask us:’ After using the warning slider for a decade, why do you change it? ‘Because this is time, because it is connected to your AI plus spirit. “
“It makes sense for us to make changes. Although we have been there in the past decade, and many of the users love it, we think it’s time for us to evolve it to the next generation.”
More than just a button
There is more to OnePlus AI than just the plus key and ai plus mind -upcoming functions include AI translation, an AI -Reframe tool for cropping photos and AI VoiceCribe, which automatically transcribes phone calls.
That said, the Plus key is the most full AI hardware function that we have seen on a smartphone so far this AI-first approach can help OnePlus to distinguish the plus key from the action button of the iPhone, which clearly served as inspiration.
It also says that OnePlus is willing to cut a popular function, such as the warning slide for the AI-oriented Plus key. This suggests that OnePlus AI could be an important priority for the brand in the future.
Personally I am a fan of the warning slide, but I think AI Plus Mind is a great idea and a good enough function to make the Plus key appear new and really useful.
