Thousands of Britain’s bikers remember Hairy Biker Dave Myers by taking to the roads to begin epic 300-mile ride from London to TV star’s home town in Cumbria to raise cash for cancer charities as pal Si King says event will be ’emotional’

Thousands of motorcyclists enter from the world famous Ace Cafe London to Cumbria to celebrate the life of the late Hairy Biker Dave Myers.

The Ace Cafe on London’s North Circular Road is the legendary destination for motorcyclists and others petrol heads that celebrate all things car.

Thousands of motorcyclists gathered at 7am today to ride through Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria as part of ‘Dave Day’ to celebrate the life of celebrity chef and motorcycle enthusiast Dave Myers.

Among those present at the Ace Cafe this morning was Dave’s old TV partner Si king.

Dave died in February at the age of 66 cancer.

Riders will stop at the Welcome Break petrol station on the M40 at 9am.

From there they will go to the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham at 10.45am. The bikers will then stop at Moto Services in Knutsford at 12.30pm.

The penultimate stop is at the Moto Services in Burton-in-Kendal before arriving in Barrow-in-Furness at 4pm.

Along the way, the bikers pick up Dave’s widow Lili, whom he met during the first series of the Hairy Bikers in Transylvania.

Speaking to BBC News, Si King said many of the participants at today’s event paid tribute to Dave’s sartorial elegance… ‘dodgy shirts’.

“It’s a celebration of my best friend that I lost. It’s very emotional. You never know how these things will impact you. It’s a celebration of Dave’s life, that’s why we’re here. He was so annoyingly positive all the time.

“We love him and that’s why we’re here.”

Si said he wanted to thank the people of Barrow in Furness, including the council and police who are helping with the event.

The event raises money for the Cancer Institute and the NSPCC.

Si described cancer as “a ruthless disease that doesn’t care who it takes.”
