Giovani scored for City draw

Giovani Lo Celso will miss Tottenham's FA Cup fourth round tie with Manchester City on Friday due to injury.

The Argentine, 27, picked up a hamstring problem during the last-round win over Burnley earlier this month.

He was sidelined with the problem due to the 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League.

And while the hope was that he would return in time for City, it is now expected that he will sit out that match as well.

The player is believed to be targeting a return to action at home to Brentford on Wednesday (January 31).

Spurs are already missing midfielders Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma due to their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

But there are hopes that playmaker James Maddison can make his long-awaited return from an ankle problem – which has sidelined him since early November – against Pep Guardiola's treble winners.

Jhon the move?

Chelsea have reportedly stepped up their shock interest in Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran.

The 20-year-old Colombian is being monitored as Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja have lacked consistency up front.

Karim Benzema is a possible loan option after becoming unhappy at Al-Ittihad.

But the Telegraph claims Duran is a more realistic target due to his young age and lower wages.

Forbs' tug-of-war

Nottingham Forest and Burnley could battle it out for Ajax striker Carlos Forbs.

The Dutch champions paid Manchester City around £16.3 million for the 19-year-old Portuguese star in August 2023.

Bayern withdraws from Tripper hunt

Bayern Munich say their interest in Newcastle's Kieran Trippier is over.

The German giants have reportedly made three attempts to sign the full-back with fellow Englishman Harry Kane.

But Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund told Sky Germany that the Bundesliga champions ended their pursuit of the 33-year-old in January.

It follows a third and final bid of £13 million which was rejected last night.

Shooters check Simons

Mikel Arteta is said to be a growing admirer of RB Leipzig loanee Xavi Simons.

The 20-year-old PSG winger from Holland has flourished during his temporary spell in the Bundesliga.

And it is claimed the Gunners are monitoring his situation

Simons joined PSG in 2022 after scoring 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 games for PSV Eindhoven.

'United needs a whole new team'

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new 25% owner of Manchester United, has been told: you need a completely new team.

Ex-Liverpool and Tottenham defender Neil Ruddock claims the Red Devils are the Premier League club with the most to do in January.

The one-cap Englishman, 55, told it NewBettingSites.uk: “If I had to choose a team to sign in January, it would be Manchester United.

“But they don't need just one signing; Manchester United need a whole new squad!

“If they had a billion pounds in the bank they would round up everyone.”

Ruddock believes any other Prem club could make it with their current squad.

But he added: “It's easy to do bad things in January. I don't really agree with the January transfer window.

Sometimes clubs just panic buy. As a manager, you should be in a position come January where you feel confident that your team doesn't need a signing. The exception to this would be unless you suffer from serious injuries.”
