The Buckingham Palace balcony is being prepared ahead of Kate Middleton’s first public appearance this year

The Princess of Wales will board a carriage with her three children for the traditional procession to Trooping the Color and later they will gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with other royals.

Organizers started preparations for the iconic balcony early this morning.

Kate Middleton’s public appearance at Trooping will be her first official appearance of 2024, after she missed appointments early this year when she was admitted to hospital for abdominal surgery on January 16.

The Trooping the Color ceremony takes place to celebrate the birthday of Britain’s reigning monarch and has been held every year for 260 years.

The popular event will attract large crowds, who will be seen waving flags as the parade moves from Buckingham Palace and through The Mall to the Horse Guard’s Parade, alongside members of the Royal Family on horseback and in carriages.

During the ceremony, King Charles will be greeted with a royal salute, before conducting an inspection of the troops, which consist of fully trained and operational soldiers wearing the ceremonial uniform of red tunics and bearskin hats.

Police patrol the area before Trooping the Colour

Hundreds of Metropolitan Police officers have been deployed to the ceremonial route to ensure the safety of those attending, with tens of thousands expected.

Scotland Yard is carrying out a ‘substantial’ police operation for the event, with anti-monarchy group Republic allowed to protest but not using amplified sound.

In a post on X today, Republic said: ‘It’s a lovely sunny day (so far) for a protest! Join us outside Buckingham Palace from 9am. #NotMyKing #AbolishTheMonarchy.”
