Tyler Perry says Meghan Markle treated him ‘like a therapist’

Tyler Perry has claimed Meghan Markle used him as a ‘therapist’ when he opened up about the extreme measures he took to protect her and Prince Harry in his home. The 54-year-old spoke with Kelly Ripa during a recent episode of her Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast on SiriusXM. He explained how he first contacted mum-of-two Meghan with a note offering his support before their friendship blossomed. Perry then famously provided several major assists to the couple as they settled in America and was later named as Lilibet Diana’s godfather.

Everyone thought Oprah introduced us, but Oprah didn’t even know I contacted them.”

Perry revealed that the duo had previously shared the same publicist he used to deliver the message.  'I sent them a note... and said: "If you ever need anything, I'm here," and she called months later and talked to me like I was a therapist and we just had a great conversation.  It's really important that people in this industry have a safe place to land, a place where they can trust and talk freely and get advice that isn't biased or from someone who wants something from them.”

Perry revealed that the duo had previously shared the same publicist he used to deliver the message. “I sent them a note… and said, ‘If you ever need anything, I’m here,’ and she called months later and talked to me like I was a therapist and we just had a great conversation. It’s really important that people in this industry have a safe place to land, a place where they can trust and talk freely and get advice that isn’t biased or from someone who wants something from them.”

The Hollywood titan further explained about his friendship with the royal couple: “They hid in my house for a long time.  It was so wonderful.  Every day.  Every day they were there, I checked to see if anything was happening online.  Nothing.  They don't even know it, so they were there for weeks and weeks.  They were so happy.  It was such a beautiful moment.'  Perry offered them his $18 million Beverly Hills home to use as their personal residence after the couple stepped down as senior royals.  Meghan and Harry, together with their then one-year-old son Archie, stayed in the Tuscan villa with eight bedrooms and twelve bathrooms for several months in 2020.  The sprawling 22-acre estate is located in the ultra-exclusive Beverly Ridge Gated Estate Community with stunning city views from the backyard.
