Sports fans warned that the streaming app will shut down next month

VIEWERS who use a Roku stick for sports streaming will lose Viaplay's match broadcasts next month when the company leaves the UK.

According to CordBusters, the Viaplay app will disappear from all Roku devices “by February 2024.”

In recent days, fans received an on-screen message alerting them that “Viaplay via Roku will close on February 29th.”

The app was short-lived on the Roku platform and launched in April 2023.

What happens to my Viaplay subscription?

Those who have a paid subscription to Viaplay, through Roku, will have their accounts automatically canceled.

However, those with a monthly subscription may lose access to Viaplay before January 29.

Viaplay terminates subscriptions in accordance with the customer's billing cycle.

This means that if a subscription is renewed typically on the 20th of each month, the customer will lose access to Viaplay on that date.

Customers with an annual subscription will receive a refund for the remaining days of their membership.

Viaplay Xtra – formerly known as Freesports – disappeared from television boxes on January 25, 2024.

The channel broadcast more than 1,000 sporting events annually in football, martial arts, ice hockey, tennis, rugby league, rugby union, basketball, cricket and snooker.

The disappearance is part of the Viaplay Group's departure from Britain, with all three channels set to return to the Premier Sports brand.

This meant that the Premier Sports 1, Premier Sports 2 and Freesports channels were rebranded as Viaplay.

Premier Sports will make a comeback early this year.

In addition to sports, Viaplay was also home to films and TV series.

Where else can I watch Viaplay?

Viaplay content isn't gone forever.

The app will remain available on several other platforms for now, including Sky, Virgin Media and Amazon Prime. and Samsung.

However, Viaplay will be disappearing from all platforms later this year, so enjoy it while you can.
