Vicky McClure and her husband Jonny Owen have opened up about the inspiration behind their new venture, Day Fever.

The actress, 40, and the producer, 52, have created a nightclub event that takes place during the day so attendees can party hard and still get home at a reasonable time.

The club is intended for people over 30 years old and the name is a nod to the Bee Gees' hit, Night Fever.

The event is open from 2pm to 8pm and features a DJ set with both Vicky and Jonny and his daughter, radio presenter Katie Owen.

The star of Line of Duty and Trigger Point told MailOnline that the idea behind the club is to get people to 'put down their phones' and start socializing again.

She said: 'The world is very digital now, and this is a chance to put your phone down and have a chat and dance with someone new.

'There was a man in Sheffield and he met a woman on one of our nights, and they are together now. And that's the point.'

The couple announced Day Fever in November 2023 and hosted their first event in Sheffield the weekend before Christmas.

Tickets sold out within 48 hours and the event was a huge hit, with their next event in Sheffield in January selling out within 24 hours.

Now they have announced events in London, Nottingham and Merthyr Tydfil in Wales, where all tickets sold out within three hours.

Jonny said the idea came from a desire to go out and party, while still getting home in time to watch the TV on Saturday night and not feeling too exhausted the next day.

He said: 'The idea for this has been kicking around in my mind for a few years. I wanted to recreate a nightclub as I remember it: great music, a decent bar and people dancing.

“And we just sold 1,400 tickets for the London venue, which is insane. It just shows that there is a market for it.

'In my generation we would go to a nightclub, get dressed up a bit and then have a drink and a boogie. And people still want that, but maybe just a little differently.

'They don't want to go out in the early hours anymore, they want to be home for Saturday night TV and a curry.'

With tickets costing no more than £15, the couple have now announced further dates after demand was so high.

In the coming months, MailOnline can reveal that the event will take place in most major cities.

Vicky said: “These smaller towns and villages really need and want these things. It has been a great achievement to sell out London that people have chosen to come and do it with us.”

Jonny added: 'We are very pleased to announce that we are considering bringing it again to Cardiff, Nottingham and Sheffield, as well as Manchester and Glasgow.

'We want one in every city. And my dream would be to expand it worldwide to Ibiza, Amsterdam, Benidorm.'
