Another one! Wallabies fly half Carter Gordon to sensationally switch footy codes and join Gold Coast Titans in 2025 under coach Des Hasler

  • Carter Gordon has signed a two-year contract with Gold Coast Titans
  • Coach Des Hasler is confident he will succeed at NRL level
  • Gordon, 23, started at number 10 for the Wallabies at the 2023 World Cup

Carter Gordon has become the latest Wallaby to switch footy codes, joining the Gold Coast Titans on a two-year deal from 2025.

Gordon, 23, was the starting number 10 for the Wallabies at the disastrous 2023 World Cup after a surprise call-up from Eddie Jones, but it didn’t stop him from pursuing a career in the NRL.

He played in the Rebels’ final match last weekend, but with the Super Rugby club closed by Rugby Australia, players have been forced to seek contracts elsewhere.

Gordon credited the “direction rugby league was taking” for his decision to join the Titans on a two-year deal after making eight appearances for the Wallabies since making his international debut against the Springboks in 2023.

“I’m excited about the direction rugby league is taking and the positive feeling surrounding the game,” Gordon said.

Titans coach Des Hasler said Gordon was a player who 'stands for himself' and was impressed with his attitude

Titans coach Des Hasler said Gordon was a player who ‘stands for himself’ and was impressed with his attitude

‘At 23, I feel like I had to seize this opportunity now. ‘I have no illusions and understand that this will be an enormous challenge.

“I was very impressed with the Titans and the professionalism they showed during our meetings.

‘I have enjoyed my time playing rugby as it has given me the opportunity to represent my country which I will always appreciate.’

Gordon’s move comes after Wallabies winger Mark Nawaqanitawase signed with the Sydney Roosters ahead of the 2025 season and is another blow to Australian rugby.

Gold Coast Titans coach Des Hasler said Gordon was a player who “stands for himself” and is confident he will successfully transition to the NRL.

“Carter fought well in rugby, representing his country and playing in the World Cup,” Hasler said.

‘What impressed me is his attitude to test himself and take on the challenge of switching to a new code. ‘He is a talented player who stands for himself.’

Gordon will join the Titans for the 2025 and 2026 NRL seasons.
