A BEAUTY influencer has revealed why she is killing a popular viral anti-ageing trend.
She warned viewers that the technology was prematurely aging them.
Isabelle (@isabelle.lux) shared the beauty tip in a video with more than 560,000 TikTok followers.
“Unless you want to age prematurely yourself, I would seriously think twice before jumping into an ice bath or taking a cold dip,” she said.
“It actually has the opposite effect of what you think it is and just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean you should do it.”
The influencer explained that she had learned from skincare experiences in Asia that extreme temperatures only caused more harm than good to the skin.
“Extreme cold therapies can put a lot of stress on your kidneys, which can really accelerate cellular aging,” she said.
“Additionally, they can affect your thyroid function. In particular, they can speed up female hormones and cause your adrenal glands to become seriously overworked.”
As an alternative, she opted for a safer and more scientifically based method.
“If you want to burn a bunch of calories quickly or boost your metabolism, I would recommend cryotherapy instead,” she said.

“It doesn't have all those really negative consequences that cold plunges can have.”
People had mixed opinions about her views on cold diving and cryotherapy.
Some who advocated ice baths explained the benefits the treatment provides them.
“I've never heard that argument. Maybe it's not great for aging, but it has had great benefits for my mental health,” said one commenter.
“I've been so much happier since I started. It increases dopamine levels.”
Some couldn't be happier when they heard the news.
“I so agree with this point of view. In Europe they don't even drink cold water. I hate taking a cold dip, that will never happen,” said one dissenter in an ice bath.
