Recently, the Election Commission of West Bengal State has announced the Panchayat Election Schedule for 2023. According to the announcement, voting for the 2023 West Bengal Panchayat elections will take place on July 8 and the counting of votes will take place on July 11. The state election commission said elections will begin at 7 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. The tripartite panchayat polls will be conducted in 20 districts and the bipartisan polls in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts will be conducted in a single phase on the same date. About 74,000 seats will go to the polls in this year’s Panchayat elections.

2023 West Bengal Panchayat Elections: Watch Full Schedule

According to the schedule announced by the EC, the last date for submitting nominations was June 15 and the last date for withdrawing nominations was June 20.

The 2023 West Bengal Panchayat Elections will be held for all three levels of Panchayati Raj Institutions: Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zilla Parishads.

Currently, there are 825 Zila Parishads constituencies in more than 20 Zila Parishads and 1 Mahakuma Parishad, 9240 Panchayat Samiti constituencies in 341 Panchayat Samitis and 48751 Gram Panchayat constituencies in 3354 Gram Panchayats.

2023 West Bengal Panchayat Elections: Nominations

The Election Commission said it had received a total of 2,36,464 nominations for the Panchayat elections.

While the TMC fielded the highest 85,817 candidates, the BJP fielded only 56,321 candidates and the CPI(M) fielded candidates for 48,646 seats. And more than 17,750 are in the electoral battle of Congress.

In particular, the West Bengal Panchayat Election 2023 is on crucial given that the Lok Sabha election is scheduled for next year.

How many seats are going to the polls?

In total, West Bengal has 3,317 gram panchayats and this year, 928 seats distributed among 22 zilla parishads, 9,730 panchayat samiti seats and 63,229 gram panchayats seats will witness matches.

2023 West Bengal Panchayat Elections: Deadlines for nominations

The Election Commission had informed on June 8 that the nomination for the panchayat polls will start on June 9 and will continue until June 15.
