Two people were injured after a demonstration car broke down in a busy shopping centre.

Emergency services were called to Westfield Liverpool shopping center at around 12.30pm on Saturday after reports that two people had been hit by a car.

Police have learned that a teenager was in a BYD electric car when it drove forward and smashed a glass panel.

It is understood the car then reversed into the adjacent Myer store, hitting the two people.

Paramedics arrived and treated a 50-year-old man with head injuries and laceration to the forehead and a 28-year-old man with spinal and pelvic injuries

They were both taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

A third person was treated for minor injuries from falling glass but did not require hospitalisation.

The police have cordoned off the crime scene and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

It is understood officers at the scene spoke to a 14-year-old boy, who has now been allowed to leave with a family member.
