Prince Harry dressed warmly as he stepped out for a run in Santa Barbara, California, on Tuesday morning – despite temperatures in the region reaching a high of 15 degrees Celsius as early as 6am.

By midday it had thawed to 17 degrees Celsius in the west coast area bordering Los Angeles.

But the Duke of Sussex, 39, appeared to opt for layering despite the warm weather in a hat and puffer coat as he was pictured jogging.

According to the Met Office, winters in LA are pleasantly mild, with average daily highs of 20.1C (68.2F) in January.

Meanwhile, the city's hottest month, August, is not a mile warmer, with an average maximum temperature of 29.1 degrees Celsius.

Harry's coat is believed to be from luxury brand Loro Piana, where outerwear can cost as much as £10,785 ($14,500).

A similar-looking model on the brand's site, which retails for £2,615 ($3,350), is described as water-repellent, windproof and with wool detailing on the sleeves.

Another Loro Piana jacket with a similar look, sold on the Yves Salomon site, costs £2,300 ($2,690).

However, keeping his look more appropriate for the Californian climate, the father of two also appeared to be wearing a purple shirt and light fabric shorts. It is not known why Harry chose to dress warmly.

It is possible that the Duke will follow in the footsteps of his wife Meghan Markle, who died earlier this summer fashionistas are scratching their heads about her desire to put on a warm coat regardless of the weather.

In August, the 42-year-old Duchess of Sussex opted for a £1,300 ($1,650) Max Mara wool coat even though it was warm in Montecito that day.

The temperature rose to 22.7 degrees Celsius and did not drop below 18 degrees Celsius. And it is not the first time that the former actress opts for unusually cozy clothes.

During a trip to New York in 2021, Meghan donned a number of wool coats, despite temperatures in the low 20s and high humidity.

Speaking to FEMAIL, celebrity stylist Miranda Holder said Meghan likely opted for the looks because jackets “make her look more put together.”

She added that the Duchess can also use it as a “comfort blanket” to “protect herself.”

“Wearing a thick wool coat over an outfit despite it being 22 degrees Celsius is certainly a bit strange – even if the coat is a beautiful camel Max Mara number like we saw Meghan Markle wearing,” the expert said.

“There's no doubt that a coat, especially an impeccably cut designer coat that Meghan is partial to, can help complete an outfit and make the whole ensemble feel more put together.”

She added that a jacket can take a look to the next level, but it's “poorly judged” to do so in a climate like LA.

'Praised as the essential 'third piece' by fashionistas and stylists in the know, adding a jacket over, say, a plain T-shirt and jeans helps complete the outfit and adds much-needed shape, texture and interest There are plenty of other ways to do that in the sultry Californian sun and without overheating. So it's curious that the Duchess has a habit of looking overdressed, both literally and figuratively,” she explained.

Miranda continued, “Other possible explanations are that Meghan went somewhere with overly effective air conditioning and would spend time in arctic temperatures, but she could have simply brought extra layers for that.

'Another idea is that she tried to disguise herself by hiding between layers of thick cloth from prying eyes and camera lenses, but in fact she only drew more attention to herself.'

'In my opinion, it's either a case of Meghan following some ill-judged fashion advice, or the Duchess is literally using her wardrobe as a comfort blanket, shielding herself from the world and literally giving herself a very expensive sartorial hug. about her business without Harry.'

Harry's morning jog marked his first sighting since the Daily Mail revealed Queen Elizabeth was distraught by his and Meghan's claim that they had received her blessing to name their baby daughter Lilibet – the late monarch's nickname.

In the chilly January weather, the 39-year-old royal was spotted jogging in a black jacket and matching shorts, apparently with a frowning, serious expression.

Harry's post-training sighting comes just days after Robert Hardman's new biography revealed the late Queen's anger over the 2021 claim that she had given them her blessing.

A member of Queen Elizabeth's staff said she was “as angry as I've ever seen her” after Harry and Meghan publicly stated they would not have used her private family nickname if she had not been “supportive.”

The queen was so upset that she told the aides: 'I don't own the palaces, I don't own the paintings, all I own is my name. And now they've taken that with them.'

The revelation comes in the latest installment of a new biography: Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story, from The Mail writer Robert Hardman, is currently serialized exclusively in the Daily Mail.
