WORDLE players have become frustrated after the popular New York Times game crashed for users.

In the viral game, players guess what the five-letter word of the day is within six turns, before waiting until the next day for a new puzzle.

But gamers today are annoyed because they couldn't log in.

Several frustrated users used to go to X TwitTuh – to discuss the glitch, with one claiming it “completely ruined their morning routine”.

“Wordle is down. My 12:00 ritual is in tatters,” another user wrote, indicating that the game has been unavailable for hours.

A third moaned: “Wordle being down on day 200 of my current streak is cruel.”

Wordle was created by software engineer and former Reddit contributor Josh Wardle and launched in October 2021.

The title of the internet word game is a play on Wardle's surname, hence Wordle.

The inventor initially invented the game for himself and his wife during the lockdown.

But it proved so popular that the New York Times announced it had bought Wordle in 2022 for an undisclosed sum of just seven figures.
