Rock band You Me At Six has announced their split after twenty years and seven top 10 albums.

The group announced via social media on Wednesday evening that they will be splitting up next year after completing their remaining tour dates.

You Me At Six will tour Britain next month before hitting the festival circuit this summer.

The band announced the news with a video of them walking through a cemetery with flashbacks of their time together over the years.

Frontman Josh Franceschi said: “When we started YMAS, we were still kids. We just wanted to live a long life, travel and experience life as a group of friends. We feel that on the eve of our 20th anniversary as a band, this is a good time to take a moment to reflect.

“We are in the fortunate position that our fans still want to see us live and come and celebrate the life of this band. So that's what we're going to do for 2024 and 2025. We can't wait to see our fans on the road.”

Fans said they were 'heartbroken' by the unexpected news, calling it the 'end of an era'.

They wrote: “Canceling the US tour last year and then ending the band before coming back is the most heartbreaking thing that has ever happened.”

“I didn't expect to have my heart broken on a random Wednesday night” and “This is the worst news ever. But thank you for making music that has healed me in so many situations. For giving you the most incredible memories of your shows. I appreciate you.”

“I'm truly heartbroken, but you guys deserve the rest now! You've been there for 20 years! We will never forget you.'

The Lived A Lie hitmakers will celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2024 after releasing their eighth album, Truth Decay, last year.

The rock band hails from Weybridge, with Josh taking lead vocals, guitarists Max Helyer and Chris Miller, bassist Matt Barnes and drummer Daniel Flint.

The musicians got together in 2004 and named the group as shorthand for making Friday night plans after a concert.
