On January 23, 500 electric buses will be flagged off in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Tuesday said that 500 electric buses will be flagged off in the national capital on January 23, taking the number of such buses on city roads to 1,800. Gahlot said this while traveling in a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus. During his bus ride, with which he wanted to encourage people to use public transport, the minister also had contact with people.

“Currently, there are 1,300 electric buses… (plying on Delhi's roads). Another 500 buses will be flagged off on January 23, taking the number of such buses to 1,800,” Gahlot said.

Underlining the role of public transport in reducing pollution, the minister said, “I urge the people of Delhi to prioritize the use of public transport. This not only saves money, but also contributes to a cleaner and greener city.”

Gahlot said he booked his bus ticket using mobile app 'One Delhi' and asked people to do the same.
The government has worked with Tummoc to introduce the single ticket system. Under the system, the same ticket works for travel by bus, metro or autorickshaw and is valid from origin to destination.

As of December 2023, the Delhi government's fleet stood at 7,232 buses, including 4,391 of the DTC and 2,841 of the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS). The daily number of bus passengers reached 41 lakh in 2023.
