The family of AFL star Matthew Owies are selling the small Victorian beach house they have owned for decades for an astonishing $500,000.

The 26-year-old Carlton player's grandparents have owned the small barn in Portsea, on the Mornington Peninsula, for 56 years after inheriting it.

The beach box covers 18.55 m² on the inside and features a 4.86 m² terrace, more than enough space to store some surfboards and a sofa.

The beautiful red and pink stripe paint gives the structure a distinctive look.

Matthew's father David Owies told the story Realty.com.au that his famous son had great times using the beach box during his childhood.

'It was quite special to have a beach box there. You could find some shelter from the sun and store some stuff there, like beach games and such,” he began.

'They were great times; people in the community have used it too.”

The Owies hope to get between $460,000 and $500,000 for the stylish structure.

Their chances of achieving this are good, as other beach boxes in the area have recently sold in a similar price range.

Matthew started his AFL career in 2020 when he was called up to play for Carlton, who he continues to work with.

Before that, he lived in Hawaii and played basketball for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors from 2016 to 2017.

When he's not playing football, Matthew is studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science at Deakin University in Melbourne.
