The British are prepared for a big rain shower weather front stretching across the country as a new phase of uncertain weather begins.

Maps of the With office show a huge wall of rain heading towards Britain.

Extensive showers are expected on Wednesday and Thursday, with some persistent rain showers on Friday.

Downpours will follow Northern Ireland And Scotland first before they make their way to the northern areas and Wales around noon.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain affecting parts of the South West England and South Wales.

According to the forecaster, the country will see “rain in most areas” between Saturday, February 24 and Monday, March 4.

Meteorologists expect rainfall amounts to range from 15 to 25 mm, with as much as 50 to 70 mm on higher ground.

They also warned of some flooding likely to cause disruption before clearing from the east by the afternoon.

Recent temperatures have brought highs of around 15 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees higher than average for this time of year.

However, in the coming days temperatures will drop to 5ºC and 6ºC.

It is part of a new low-pressure system being blown across the Atlantic Ocean by an active jet stream.

This will mark several days of colder and more unsettled weather, according to the Met Office.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said: 'There will be wet and windy weather for a period of time, associated with a front moving south-east across Britain today.

“Behind that will be another more active feature, in time as there will be some widespread heavy rainfall tomorrow that could cause localized impacts.

“For here and now there is a dry star, first beware of some fog and mist.

“But it will become wet quickly across Scotland and Northern Ireland as the system works its way south-east, bringing rain later in the afternoon.”

As the coming months approach, the Met Office said colder temperatures could bring some snow to the northern hills.

In its long-term forecast, the Met Office said: “A generally unsettled pattern is likely to continue until early March, with spells of rain at times in all areas, wettest in the west and northwest, where it will also be windy. sometimes.

“Temperatures are generally around average, although some brief colder interludes are possible.

“These are more likely in the north, which makes it possible snow to sometimes descend to a lower level.”

It comes as torrential rain saws rivers overflown their banks and roads cut off while millions were hit by flooding this weekend.

Pictures showed the village of Croscombe, in Somerset, flooded after the River Sheppey burst its banks.

Furniture, including sofas and tables, floated through the village on Sunday as rescue teams arrived to help stranded residents.
