Walkers has confirmed that the Marmite flavor has been discontinued after it slowly disappeared from supermarket shelves.

A devoted chip lover noticed the change which left her devastated.

She has tweeted saying: “Don't tell me you're giving up marmite chips, I don't think I can cope. They're the only things that keep me going.”

Walkers responded that they should abandon the Marmite flavour.

The company wrote: “We know it, we hate it too. It is with a heavy heart that we have had to remove the Marmite flavor from our range.”

The hugely popular crunchy flavor has been available in stores for more than 20 years.

While opinions on the flavor are divided, many fans joined in to share their love for the chips before they were gone forever.

One fan said: “This fresh taste takes me back to the sixties.”

Another said: “I always come back to this.”

A third customer claimed: “You can easily get addicted to this.”

Someone else said: “Lots of flavor – and they are well cooked and crispy without being greasy.”

While another added: “Marmite is a divine fresh taste.”

One person wrote: “These have to be my all time favorites and right now I can't get them anywhere. They are so luscious, yum!”

Many shoppers have struggled to get their hands on the iconic flavor for years, and it wasn't long before fans started speculating that the chips would soon be discontinued.

The popular snack company previously told the Sun that they were well aware the flavor was loved by fans, but hoped to pave the way for new flavours.

A Walkers spokesperson told The Sun: “We are very sorry to disappoint fans of Walkers Marmite flavored crisps with this news.”

“We know many chip lovers will be unhappy to see the taste of these Walkers disappear.”

“This change will allow us to focus our efforts on making more of the flavors that chip fans love most.”

There are several reasons why a flavor may be discontinued.

Often this is due to poor sales, but sometimes it can also be to make way for new flavors.

It's been a rough ride for Walker's fans, as several other crips flavors have been discontinued in recent months.

In October, Walkers axed its hugely popular Worcester sauce flavor and fans claimed “their sandwiches were ruined”.

Fans also said goodbye to Max Fiercely Flamin Hot chips and the Beef and Onion flavor in November.

Which fresh flavors has Walkers discontinued?

We've put together a list of all the popular crunchy flavors that Walkers fans are excited to see again.

  1. Walkers Marmite
This flavor has been on the shelves for over 20 years, but was discontinued at the end of 2023.
  2. Walkers Worcester sauce
There was an uproar on social media last year after Walkers confirmed it had stopped making the Worcester sauce flavour.
  3. Sizzling steakwotsits
The retro flavor was previously sold as BBQ beef, but was pulled from shelves in the early 2000s.
It briefly returned to stores in January 2020 due to high demand, but was gone for good soon after.
  4. Walkers beef and onion
Snack lovers were shocked when the beef and onion flavor was nowhere to be seen in supermarkets.
The beloved flavor was being discontinued in 2022, the company confirmed in a post on X last year.
  5. Salt and Vinegar Quavers
This flavor was first introduced in 1993 and returned to the line-up in 2021, together with shrimp cocktail Quavers, after demand from chip lovers.
But unfortunately the crispiness has disappeared again.
  6. Walkers Max Fiercely Flamin Hot chips
This flavor was launched in 2021 to attract a younger audience.
Fans of the flavor were left devastated in November 2023 when the chips were pulled from shelves for good.
  7. Beijing Spare Rib oriental crackers
Walkers confirmed in November last year that it has discontinued another fresh flavor inspired by flavors from around the world.
  8. Sensational royal lamb and mint
The popular flavor was only available for a specific occasion: the King's Coronation.
  9. Smiths Cheese moments
Dubbed “the most underrated chips ever” by fans, this snack was generally sold in pubs.
It has even been called the “king of all chips”, but was unfortunately discontinued forever.

But don't be discouraged yet: there may be an alternative to the iconic Marmite flavour.

Marmite is owned by Unilever and the brands produce their own range of Marmite flavored snacks.

Marmite makers have hinted that Marmite chips could be on their way soon, just days after Walkers announced it would no longer produce its version.
