However, an expert has revealed there's a £1.50 household product hiding in your cupboard that could get the job done without damaging your lawn in the process.

“Using laundry detergent is a cheap and effective solution,” says Steven Bell, general manager of Paving retailersaid.

“Scrubbing is not necessary, because rainfall naturally helps with that.

“Simply sprinkle the detergent over the dry, moss-covered area and let the rain wash it away.”

That's why it's a good idea to try the hack when rain is forecast.

The professional added that in addition to being “simple,” it is also environmentally friendly “as it does not harm the surrounding lawn or plants.”

Moss is a common problem for many and thrives in wet weather, meaning it is particularly bad in the UK.

Airborne dust and dirt particles can also build up and build up in the sand between the pavers, creating an ideal breeding ground for moss.

If you use dish soap, the moss is also unlikely to grow back.

“I used a box of biodegradable washing powder on a large moss-covered area, just sprinkled it on top and left it there,” Bell added.

“That was two years ago, and the moss hasn't returned!”

The hack does not work immediately and it may take a few days to completely kill the moss.

Or for a more direct approach, you can mix the detergent with water and spray it over the moss.

Once the moss signals that it is dying by changing color, rinse the area with warm water and finish using a stiff brush to brush away the remaining moss.

“This method is not only cost-effective, but also prevents damage to paving surfaces,” he continued.

“Plus, it is a method that can be used safely around lawns and plants.”

Other home remedies known to help banish moss include table salt, which draws moisture from the moss cells via osmotic pressure.

Simply sprinkle liberally over the plates and scrub with a brush.

Or you can try white vinegar, whose acidity disrupts plant photosynthesis and breaks down cells.

Simply spray it undiluted onto the moss.
