The vacation of a lifetime ends in tragedy for the young Aussie killed in a horror scooter accident when his latest Instagram post is revealed

A young Aussie has been tragically killed after losing control of his scooter and crashing into a concrete pillar while on holiday in southern Italy.

Matthew Borromei, 25, of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia, died in Sicily while traveling to the city of Taormina.

The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. on July 5.

Local media Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata reported that he died at the scene before emergency services arrived.

Just days earlier, Mr. Borrome had enthused his family back home about the southern region of Italy.

On June 28, he posted on Instagram a photo of his travels in the Molise region.

“Feeling at home with the family in this beautiful city,” he captioned the post.

His family confirmed his death in a social media post, noting that the area was one of his “favorite places that he discovered during his European travels.”

“Mommy and I love you so much,” his father Rino posted on Facebook.

‘I miss you. Forever in our hearts and minds.’

Many tributes revolved around his love of football and the AFL, including two posts from the teams he played for.

His AFL team, Railways Football Club, said he will be ‘dearly missed by many for his energy, smile and joie de vivre’.

“The Railways FC pays respects to Matt Borromei, his family, friends and former teammates,” the message read.

“Unfortunately, Matt lost his life while on tour in Italy and he will be greatly missed by many for his energy, smile and joie de vivre.

‘… the biggest collective hug around everyone who loved and knew Matt, including many who play at the club today.

RIP Matt. We love you mate.’

The club also announced that players will wear black armbands in all classes this weekend to pay their respects to Matt.

While the Twin City Saints football club also paid a touching tribute to one of their original members.

“Incredibly sad news for one of our OGs [originals] … Heart goes out to the family and of course to you boys,” the Twin City Saints posted on their Facebook page.

‘Terrible to lose such a good friend.

“Love from two coaches who were lucky enough to spend time with such a great guy and a top player.”

Mr. Borromei was also a very beloved colleague

“We are beyond devastated by the tragic loss of our charismatic colleague and team member Matt Borromei,” wrote Board Constructions.

“We will all cherish the last four years Matt spent with us, blessed and proud to know him as a friend.

“Matt was loved by all and will be sorely missed, rest in peace.”
