Travis Kelce 'heartbroken' by Kansas City shooting as Chiefs ask fans to 'pray'

THE Kansas City Chiefs are sending their prayers to the victims of a shooting that occurred after the team's Super Bowl victory parade.

Police say at least one person was killed after 22 victims, including children, were shot near the parade route on Wednesday.

Several Chiefs star players left heartfelt messages for the victims after learning about the shooting on Wednesday.

“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that occurred today,” Travis Kelce wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“My heart goes out to everyone who came to celebrate with us and was affected. KC, you mean the world to me.”

He was joined by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who said he was “praying” for the city.

“Praying for Kansas City…” Mahomes wrote.

“Please join me in prayer for all the victims of this heinous act,” added linebacker Drue Tranquill.

“Pray that doctors and first responders will have steady hands and that everyone will experience complete healing.”

“Praying for everyone today in Kansas City,” offensive tackle Donovan Smith said.

“Praying for everyone in Kansas City during the parade,” said safety Justin Reid wrote.

“Prayers Kansas City,” said wide Mecole Hardman Jr.

While wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling asked on X: “Is there any chance someone can help me get in touch with these children or families?

'First of all, I want to make sure they're okay.

“But I would like to help them in any way I can and get them some stuff from the team to help with their recovery.”

The NFL also released one racksaying, “We are deeply saddened by the senseless shooting that occurred today at the conclusion of the Kansas City rally for the Chiefs.

'Our thoughts are with the victims and all those affected.

“We are grateful for the quick and thorough response from law enforcement and emergency responders.”

Chiefs players reportedly stuck around to support fans during the chaos and comfort young attendees.

According to NFL reporter Albert Breer, Blaine Gabbert, Tre Smith, Austin Reiter and Chris Oladukun all came together to help calm their fans down after the hectic situation.

Smith was seen going up to a young fan and giving him the WWE belt he was wearing before sitting with him until he calmed down.

Another young fan said he was running from the gunfire before encountering Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

The fan said he was afraid his friends might be dead and Reid hugged him in an attempt to comfort him.

Nearly a million people were there to watch the Chiefs' Super Bowl parade when the shots were fired.

The Chiefs released this statement after the shooting:

“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside Union Station at the conclusion of today's parade and rally. Our thoughts go out to the victims, their families and all of Kansas City.

“We are in close contact with the mayor's office and the Kansas City Police Department. At this time we have confirmed that all our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and being taken into account.

“We thank the local law enforcement and first responders who responded to the scene to assist.”

Two suspects are in custody, police said.
