A HORROR simulation has revealed what would happen to a human body in space without an astronaut suit.

The chilling video shows exactly what someone can expect when stripped of their spacesuit in the vastness of the universe.

The terrifying clip, shot by YouTube channel DG EYE, shows human lungs bursting and blood boiling in the far from ideal situation.

It explains that due to the absence of an atmosphere in space, the water in our bodies would boil and turn from a liquid into a gas.

In the next five seconds, all the water in our bodies, including the surface of our eyes, skin and mouth, would completely evaporate – and the blood would start to boil.

The pressure difference causes all gases in the human body to expand.

The simulation showed how the human body would swell and become larger due to the elasticity of the skin, which would stretch and make room for the extra gas formed.

And this would force the lung tissues to burst.

Stefaan de Mey, a senior expert at the European Space Agency, said: 'The oxygen starts to expand and rupture your lungs, tearing them apart.

“This would cause your blood to boil and bubble, which will immediately cause an embolism and have a fatal impact on your body.”

Without any outside help, the human heart would eventually slow down and stop – and all the oxygen in the blood would be used up.

This would force the person to faint immediately, resulting in death by asphyxiation.

Dr. Kris Lehnhardt, element scientist for the Human Research Program at NASA said: “As you can imagine, this is a serious problem since 60 percent of the human body is made of water.

“Essentially, all of your body tissues that contain water will begin to expand.”

A human body without a spacesuit can last only 1 to 15 seconds before falling unconscious from lack of oxygen, experts claim.

Jim LeBlanc, an aerospace engineer at NASA, came close to this horror situation.

While testing the performance of spacesuits in a vacuum chamber, he was unable to get pressurized air into his suit due to a technical glitch.

In the documentary series Moon Machine, LeBlanc explained that he began to feel the effects before eventually blacking out.

“As I stumbled backwards, I felt the saliva start to bubble on my tongue just before I fell unconscious, and that's kind of the last thing I remember,” he added.

Why do astronauts need spacesuits?

ACCORDING TO NASA, a fully equipped spacesuit is a one-person aircraft – and more than just a set of clothes that astronauts wear.

The specialized suits help the person inside keep from getting too hot or too cold, while also providing fresh oxygen so astronauts can breathe as they work in the vacuum of space.

It provides a safe pressure so that the astronauts' organs can function properly in space.

It also protects astronauts from small, dangerous pieces of space floating around due to gravity.

Due to the lack of atmosphere, the sun's rays are much stronger in space and can seriously damage the naked eye and exposed skin.

Space suits therefore protect the astronaut against the harmful rays of the sun, but also against other dangerous radiation in space.
