While clothing is not required, a good bank balance is when it comes to nude cruising, a topic that has come into the spotlight recently after a passenger who traveled on several clothing-free voyages shared his experiences online.

DailyMail.com has looked at the cost of a two-week cruise with Bare Necessities, with rates starting at $2,000 per person for an inside cabin on an 11-day Caribbean voyage and rising to $33,155 for a three-bedroom ‘garden villa’ on board the Norwegian Pearl.

On top of the costs, there are also port taxes “estimated at $235.25 per person” and prepaid gratuities at $177.43 per passenger.

This compares to a fully kitted trip booked directly with the cruise line, where prices start from just $949.

Although Bare Necessities did not respond to a request regarding price differentiation, many experienced nudists say it is a known fact that nude cruises cost more than so-called ‘textile cruises’.

Nude cruises came to the forefront of conversation this week when a 67-year-old man opened up about his experiences aboard one of the ships and answered a host of questions from fascinated Reddit users about what life is like aboard the ship.

And in one of his answers, he revealed that nude cruises are “apparently.” [cost] significantly more than a normal cruise.’

He explained: ‘I’ve never done a textile cruise before, so I don’t know the difference.

“I think this one cost $2,500 per person for a seven-day cruise in a standard room with balcony.”

Another Redditor, who has taken four Bare Necessities cruises, says the high cost of the trips means the age range is generally older.

They wrote, “My wife and I have been on four Bare Necessities cruises, and next month will be the fifth.

‘We have discovered over the years that it is a really nice way to unplug and relax for a few weeks.

‘There are no children on board, and the crowd is a little older: most people are between 50 and 70 years old, but you will encounter people in their late 20s and 30s.

“I think part of that has to do with how expensive these cruises are.”

An even fancier Bare Necessities nude cruise, which takes 14 days from Australia and visits a series of remote islands in the South Pacific, starts from $13,660 for a basic suite and goes up to $50,770 for the penthouse.

However, the cruise line Scenic, which charters the boat to Bare Necessities, offers trips at a similar price and it appears that nudists will not have to pay a premium.

Bare Necessities emphasizes in its marketing materials that its trips are not sexual and that its main purpose is to “dispel the misconception that travel is anything but natural and beautiful.”

It adds: ‘We have made progress in the acceptance of nude holidays and our wide range of cruise charters is testament to our success.’
