Indonesia’s aviation authority said it would investigate how the country’s airlines operate night flights after both pilots of a Batik Air flight carrying 153 passengers fell asleep, causing the plane to briefly veer off course.

The flight – a journey of about three hours from Kendari to Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, early January 25 – was a return trip for the crew and the plane, which had spent less than an hour on the ground after arriving from Jakarta.

The plane took off from Kendari around 8 a.m. and after reaching cruising altitude, the captain took a nap while the co-pilot manned the flight, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Committee. After about an hour, the co-pilot accidentally fell asleep, and several panicked calls from the air traffic control center and other aircraft went unanswered.

About 28 minutes later, the pilot woke up, realized the plane had gone off course and woke the co-pilot. They corrected course and the plane landed safely in Jakarta.

Batik Air is owned by Lion Air Group, Indonesia’s largest airline, which has a problematic safety record. In 2018, one of the flights fell from the sky shortly after takeoff, killing all 189 people on board. In 2013, a Lion Air flight crashed into the sea while trying to land; all passengers were safely evacuated. And in 2004, 25 people were killed in a Lion Air crash in Surakarta, Indonesia.

In recent years, Lion Air Group has made significant investments in improving the safety of its flights, said Gerry Soejatman, an Indonesian aviation expert and consultant, but he added that it was unclear whether the investments addressed underlying problems or provided quick fixes made possible.

“Because they have a questionable history,” he said, “what we worry about is that they are too desperate to solve the problem.”

Indonesia’s aviation industry has had “a bit of a turbulent history,” said Keith Tonkin, director of Aviation Projects, an aviation consultancy in Brisbane, Australia. Indonesian airlines were banned from flying in the United States and the European Union for years after a series of Indonesian airline crashes in 2007. The bans were lifted in the United States in 2016 and in the European Union in 2018.

The preliminary report for the Batik Air episode revealed that the 28-year-old co-pilot, who was not named, had not slept well the night before the flight because he had one-month-old twins and “woke up several times had to be’. time to help his wife take care of the babies.”

While preparing for the first leg of the return flight, he told the 32-year-old captain that he had not slept well and, at the captain’s offer, had taken a 30-minute nap during the flight from Jakarta to Kendari, it said report. .

The report shows that while Batik Air instructs its pilots on limitations to look out for before a flight, including stress and fatigue, it does not provide detailed guidance on how pilots can assess these limitations. “The lack of detailed guidelines and procedures may have prevented pilots from properly assessing their physical and mental status,” the report said.

It also found that while Batik Air specifies that the aircraft’s cockpit should be checked every 30 minutes during a flight, it does not specify who is responsible for the checks and how they should be carried out. Cockpit checks are usually performed by flight attendants.

On Saturday, Indonesia’s director-general of civil aviation at the Ministry of Transport, Maria Kristi Endah Murni, said the ministry would investigate the Batik Air episode and assess how all the country’s airlines are dealing with crew fatigue while operating night flights.

Batik Air said in a statement that both pilots involved in the flight had been temporarily suspended.

The problem of crew fatigue at airlines around the world has been exacerbated by pilot shortages due to the coronavirus pandemic, Mr Tonkin said. With many airline workers laid off during the pandemic and not yet returning to the industry, “there is systematic pressure on everyone in the industry to perform at a very high level, with limitations,” he said.

YOUR iPhone has a powerful trick that can help you fall asleep – and even just relax.

It’s tucked away so deep in the iPhone Settings app that is very easy to miss.

1

Start using background noise; this can make it easier to fall asleepCredit: The American Sun/Apple

The feature is called Background Sounds and plays soothing sounds from a selection of options including Rain and Ocean.

An iPhone owner shared the feature in a Reddit post that has racked up more than 1,000 upvotes.

“I can’t believe it took me so long to find this,” they say said.

“The need to open YouTube for rain sounds is now RESOLVED. When did they add this?!”

“This feature made me fall asleep on a flight for the very first time. I slept for three hours on a plane, three precious hours,” cheered another.

And someone added: “Lately this is the only way I can sleep at home.”

There are several ways to customize the function.

For starters, you can adjust the volume within your settings, independently of the volume of your main device.

You can also allow background noise when media is playing, and also adjust the volume specifically for that scenario.

And there’s an additional option to stop sounds when locked, which you can enable in the Settings menu.

‘Thank you!!!’ cheer iPhone owners after finding tricks to silence spam texts forever – but never break key rule

This will disable the feature when you lock your iPhone.

Finally, you need to choose a sound from the following list:

  • Balanced noise
  • Clear sound
  • Dark sound
  • Ocean
  • Rain
  • Current

You can change them at any time.

SOUND ON!

There are two smart ways to enable the feature.

The first is to add it to your Control Center.

That’s the quick menu that you can access by swiping down from the top right corner of your screen on iPhones with Face ID or by swiping up from the bottom on other iPhones.

To edit it, go to Settings > Control Center and make sure Hearing is added.

You can then tap the hearing icon (it looks like an ear) in your Control Center to activate background sounds.

But there’s an even faster way to enable background noise.

You can also go to Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcuts > Background Noises.

This allows you to triple click the side button on your iPhone to turn background sounds on or off.

A woman passing by @muir24nn tried a common beauty method on TikTok.

But unfortunately it quickly turned out to be a failure.

“POV: You fell asleep with eyebrow dye for 1.5 hours,” she began in the clamp.

She filmed herself shocked and shocked by the results: Her eyebrows looked less like Cindy Crawford’s and more like Helga from Hey Arnold.

Above each of her eyes were two thick, colored lines.

She tried her best to rub them away with a cotton ball and solution, but she realized they weren’t moving.

“Oh no. Be real. Come on! Shut up,” she said frantically.

She scrubbed harder and harder each time, but knew she probably should have left it to the professionals – or stayed awake.

Most read in Hair & Beauty

She was mortified and hoped people would ignore her in public.

“If you see me walking around like that, no, you didn’t #sendhelp,” she wrote in the caption.

‘My jaw literally dropped’ people say after woman shares her ‘glow-up’ of thick eyebrows and fake eyelashes – and they say she looks like ‘Molly Mae’

One viewer offered a possible solution: “Listen to me. Use toothpaste on the eyebrows. It functions!”

A second offered a less serious one: “Emergency bang, start!”

And others were just as shocked as she was.

“What does your return to office policy look like?” one wrote, suggesting she should work from home if possible to avoid being seen.

“I’M DEAD. THE SHARP EYEBROWS. It’s 2016,” said another.

“New fear unlocked,” a third added.

She was shocked at the results she woke up to and frantically tried to rub it away

It was only the second Question Time of the year, but already the exhausting hours appear to be bearing down on one of Australia's elected leaders.

Veterans Affairs Minister Matt Keogh struggled to stay awake during a second day of intense Question Time scrutiny into the third phase of the Albanian government's tax cuts.

Sitting front and center behind the Prime Minister during Question Time on Wednesday, it was hard to miss Mr Keogh's attempts to fight the kinks as the opposition bombarded his party with questions about its broken election promise.

About 30 minutes later, Mr Keogh appeared to fall asleep several times as Transport Minister Catherine King outlined the benefits of the changed tax policy.

On several occasions he rested his eyes and then blinked aggressively. At one point his head appeared to droop forward, before quickly snapping back up.

This all happened in the space of about four minutes, before Mr Keogh acted as if nothing had happened, engaging again, chanting 'hear hear' with his party and nodding along with their arguments.

Keogh's moments of calm came as the coalition again bombarded the government with questions about further election promises made over the past two years.

They expressed concerns about whether the government would deliver on these promises, especially regarding negative gearing and franking credits, given the recent decision to change the tax situation in phase three.

Mr Albanese tailored the concessions to give a greater tax benefit to middle-income earners – at the expense of the city's top end.

Under Labour's new plan, high-income earners earning more than $200,000 will get a tax cut of $4,529 compared to what they currently pay – just $4,549 less than the $9,075 initially proposed by the Morrison government.

A worker with $100,000 in income would have received $1,375 in additional tax time under the original plan. Now they take home almost double that: $2,179.

And people earning $45,000 — who would have taken nothing home under last month's policy — will now be $805 better off in July.

The benefits are starting to emerge for voters making $150,000 or less. On that salary, a person would have received a $3,975 tax cut under the original legislation. Now they'll take home $3,739 instead.

Only 3.4 per cent of voters earn more than $180,000 – and Mr Albanese is betting that most Australians will be better off under his changes, and therefore more likely to forgive or ignore the fact that he has an election promise broken to make this happen.

Sitting front and center behind the Prime Minister during Question Time on Wednesday, it was hard to miss Mr Keogh's attempts to fight the kinks as the opposition bombarded his party with questions about its broken election promise.

RESEARCH has found that more than a fifth of adults have fallen asleep at work, with some falling asleep on the toilet because they are “working too hard”.

A survey of 2,000 Brits commissioned by Samsung found that 22 percent of Brits wandered off while on the clock.

1

The research was commissioned by Samsung to highlight the Sleep Animals functionality on the Galaxy Watch6

The study of falling asleep at work found that this was due to late nights (45 percent) or working too hard (32 percent) or even boredom (32 percent).

While others admitted to winking 40 times in nightclubs or bars (12 percent) and even at a wedding (five percent).

And one in ten have fallen asleep on the toilet, with overeating (25 percent) cited as another reason for dozing in atypical locations.

The research, commissioned by Samsung, to investigate the Sleep Animal functionality on the Galaxy Watch6, also found that others have caught their attention at parties, theater shows and on public transport.

Clinical psychologist Dr Julie Smith said: “If you fall asleep during the day without intending to, it's a clear sign that you're not getting enough sleep at night to stay healthy.

“This research suggests that we could all work on improving our bad habits when it comes to our bedtime routines, but to do this we need to have a good understanding of our sleep habits.”

The survey also found that 17 percent of adults would like to try unusual methods to improve the quality of their sleep.

A whopping 43 percent have avoided caffeine before hitting the hay in an attempt to get a good night's sleep, while the same percentage read a good book before bed.

But 57 percent claim their disturbed sleep is due to overthinking, while 49 percent say being too hot or too cold hinders a good night's sleep.

And 32 percent blame working too hard as the reason for not getting much-needed rest.

Noisy neighbors (22 percent), uncomfortable beds (21 percent) and nightmares (17 percent) are also the cause.

Of those who toss and turn at night, 40 percent have trouble even going to dreamland because of money worries.

While, ironically, the fear of getting into their 'zzz's is keeping 36 percent from falling asleep.

As a result, one in four have trouble sleeping so often that they have become anxious about bedtime.

But 53 percent believe they prioritize sleep as much as they need to, according to OnePoll's findings.

It also emerged that only 12 percent have used a smartwatch to monitor their sleep patterns, but 25 percent would like to know more about their sleeping habits.

Annika Bizon from Samsung UK said: “By analyzing the sleep patterns of millions of people around the world we can understand how technology can play a role in helping people adopt healthier habits.

“To improve the quality of your sleep, it is essential to understand how you sleep.”

Christine Dawood still can’t quite believe that her husband of 20 years, Shahzada, and their precious son, Suleman, are no longer with her. It is now seven months since she last saw them climbing into the Titan submersible for, what she calls, ‘the big one’ in terms of this remarkable family’s many adventures.

Last June, one hour and 45 minutes into the dive in the North Atlantic to view the wreck of the Titanic, off the coast of Newfoundland, the Titan lost communication with its support ship, the Polar Prince.

For four days, Christine and her daughter, Alina, who was then 17, waited aboard that ship for businessman and philanthropist Shahzada, 48, and 19-year-old Suleman to return to the surface.

They never did. Instead, they died on their ill-fated adventure with three other crew members, including Stockton Rush, the CEO of Titan owner OceanGate. ‘The moment we knew they’d found debris and there were no survivors, Alina and I went on deck. Until that moment we’d had hope. We took some cushions with us and just sat there looking out at the ocean. We were both crying.

‘I turned to her and said: ‘I’m a widow now.’ She said: ‘Yes, and I’m a single child.’ Then we cried even more.

‘Apart from a few business trips when Shahzada would go back to [his native] Pakistan, we did everything together.

‘It’s the waking up every morning that’s . . . sometimes I still don’t believe it. The possibility of it [Titan] imploding never crossed our minds. To lose a husband is terrible, but when you lose a child…’

She leans back and stares up at the ceiling.

‘My son was an emergency C-section. I almost lost him. I just thought he was this angel who was gifted to me,’ she says. ‘Without modern medicine I would not have had him. He was an old soul – a people’s person who made everyone feel special.

‘I love being a mother. I have Alina, but I never wanted to be a single mother to an only child.

‘No parent should have to grieve for their child. It’s unnatural. All of a sudden your purpose, your identity, is ripped away from you.’

She looks at me with eyes that swim with sadness.

On Monday it would have been Suleman’s 20th birthday. Christine has ordered some balloons because her son was ‘always happy’ when she bought them for him.

This year, though, there will be ‘no Happy Birthday printed on the balloons — no name or numbers’, she says. They will simply be filled with helium and allowed to float up into the glass atrium roof.

She’ll mark her son’s birthday remembering him and his father. She wants the world to remember them, too.

It is why she has decided to give her first in-depth interview since the tragedy. In those first days after the Titan imploded, Christine spoke briefly about her husband and son, but her grief was too raw to talk at length.

Today, the grief remains, of course, but somehow she can find traces of humour, too.

This warm family home in Surrey once rang with laughter. Her husband and daughter were, she tells me, two of a kind with huge brains and the ability to see ‘the big picture’, whereas she and Suleman were practical, solution-orientated souls.

She and her beloved son adored animals and would take their gentle Burmese mountain dog, Stig, on long walks together in the Surrey Hills, when they’d talk ‘about anything and everything. He was one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, which with him being a teenager says a lot’.

Christine adds: ‘He was very aware of the opportunities that his privilege gave him. In 2019 we took our children to Greenland because that’s where the iceberg that sank the Titanic came from.’

She rolls her eyes in mock exasperation. It is warming to see her humour as she remembers happier times.

‘My husband kept telling the children they were very privileged to see the glaciers. He said that in another five to ten years the place would have changed because of global warming. Suleman really took it to heart. He kept telling everyone that was a life-changing moment for him.

‘He became more conscious about the environment and wanted to make a difference. He was passionate about wealth inequality and wanted to work towards a world where distribution of wealth was more balanced. I want the world to remember him like that.’

Suleman, she tells me, was a ‘very affectionate son’ who was never too embarrassed to return his mother’s kisses. When she dreams about him, as she often does, she still feels his hugs.

‘We don’t have graves for them,’ she says. ‘There were no bodies, but recently we [she, Alina and Shahzada’s younger sister, Sabrina] went to Singapore. The sea was warm enough for us to walk in and I truly felt them around me. I thought: ‘This is such a gift. I don’t need a grave because every time I am in the ocean I will be able to connect with them because they are part of it.’

‘We stood there with our skirts draped over our arms and cried for ten minutes straight. It was very, very cathartic. When I think of them now, they are just asleep down there [in the ocean].’

Suleman was at Strathclyde University in Glasgow, studying business analysis and human resources and intending to work with his father in the family business, when they boarded the Polar Prince to visit the wreck of the Titanic in the Titan submersible. They had been planning the trip since before Covid.

‘We’d started talking about it in 2018,’ says Christine. ‘I was supposed to go with my husband but, because of the delay with Covid, Suleman turned 18 and he wanted to go.’

Again, there is a flash of humour as she explains. ‘The idea of being in a small submersible going down and then up for eight hours was not necessarily my favourite thought.

‘I get bored on flights when you can at least watch movies. What do you do under the ocean going down for four hours in complete darkness? I mean, there’s only so much you can talk about to a person.’

For all their adventures the Dawoods were, she says, ‘not risk-taking types. We would not jump off bridges or out of planes. This [Titan] was out of our comfort zone. The Polar Prince was a rescue ship that had been retired, and I was very seasick.’

She falls silent for a moment. ‘I hardly interacted with them [the night before] because I was throwing up so much. I went to bed pretty early.’ The following morning, her husband was so excited, she says, he was ‘literally glowing’.

Her son was thrilled, too, to be sharing this experience with his father. He’d decided to break the tedium of that four-hour journey into the deep by solving a Rubik’s cube at 3,700 metres below the ocean surface.

Christine remembers Shahzada looking ‘a bit like a swan out of water’ as he stumbled about climbing into Titan. ‘He was not elegant, but he was adorable,’ she says.

Suleman was wearing his favourite red hoodie. ‘He lived in it,’ Christine remembers fondly. ‘He wore it everywhere, even in the height of summer.

‘In hindsight would I have wanted them not to go? Absolutely — but I can’t really say I would have denied them an opportunity like that. If they had come back up and nothing had happened, it would have been quite a different story to tell.’

Christine is an extraordinary woman. She says: ‘I am widowed and I lost a child and I’m not even 50. I’m 48.’ But this is stated as a fact without self-pity.

She tells me that she grew up in the Alps near Munich, where the weather could change within an hour. ‘You learn to accept there are some things beyond your control,’ she says. ‘If the snow’s suddenly coming in, you can’t change that from stubborn will. You have to accept it, live with it and adapt. I think that’s helping me now.’

Shahzada wasn’t just Christine’s husband but her best friend. They met at Reutlingen University in her native Germany. The son of a prominent Pakistani family, he was, she says, ‘very different to anyone I’d known. He was the opposite of the blond, blue-eyed Germans. But I guess opposites attract.

‘I saw a kindred spirit because our values were the same. Honesty was a big one. Being respectful of a higher power was also really important. As well as curiosity. We loved learning together.’ Christine converted to Islam and, despite studying engineering, happily gave up her career to raise her children. ‘I thought it was really important to give them the right values, especially in a fast world like ours,’ she says.

‘Because I was a stay-at-home mum I was also a supportive wife. When, all of sudden, that is ripped away from you . . .’ She doesn’t finish the sentence. There is no need. The huge loss she has suffered is everywhere.

The house is full of joyful family photographs: Suleman as a baby; Shahzada with Margaret Thatcher at his graduation from Buckingham University; her children with their cousins on a tractor on the family farm in Lahore.

I wonder if she feels anger towards OceanGate. After all, experts have since claimed CEO Stockton Rush ignored warnings that his vessel was unsafe.

‘That’s what you’d call complicated,’ she says. ‘There were a lot of people who showed us support during that time. So, anger at OceanGate? I don’t know. But Stockton is not my favourite person in this mess.’

She adds: ‘It’s difficult because we don’t know exactly what happened as the investigation is on-going. But I do feel angry.

‘After the tragedy we couldn’t come back home until October because we’d started renovating the house. We were staying with my in-laws, but eventually I said: ‘We need the workers out of the house. I need my space . . . my sanity.’

‘It was dark [when we returned]. I tried to switch on the light and the fuse blew. I lost it and swore at the whole world because I felt so alone. I thought: ‘It’s just me now. I am the only adult in the house.’ ‘

Christine stops to offer me another cup of coffee. ‘I guess there’s still a lot to be grateful for,’ she says. ‘I love going out into the forest. I love nature and I have a lot of people around me who support me. I have a lot of love in my life — a lot of friendships.

‘But I still can’t go into Suleman’s room. When the builders came in we packed up his room. His things are still in boxes I’ve never unpacked. I can’t.’

She tries to muster a smile. ‘Now 2024 is starting, who knows? 2023 was like this black hole, darkness . . . With the new year, maybe we can bring some light into the dark,’ she muses.

‘How that’s going to look? I don’t know yet.’

Jon Cryer‘s Broadway debut didn’t go as planned after he accidentally fell asleep on stage.

“I think of myself as a very professional actor, but apparently that’s not true,” says Cryer. 58, said during an appearance on Wednesday, January 10 The Kelly Clarkson Show“One of my very first jobs was on a Broadway show called Memoirs of Brighton Beach …and my character had to fall asleep at one point.”

Cryer, who played Eugene Jerome in 1983 Neil Simon production, explained how at one point in the play his character was supposed to go upstairs and sleep in his room. However, Cryer apparently took the direction a little too literally.

“You haven’t experienced fear until you realize you fell asleep during the Broadway show you’re starring in,” he joked to Clarkson.

Cryer shared that while watching his costar nap Patrick Breen came to his rescue and woke him up.

‘I remember lying there and he was ‘sleeping’ across from me. But apparently he’s a better actor for portraying it,” he said. “And all I remember is the look on his face: ‘Jon. Jon. Jon!’ And his eyes got all big and then I thought, ‘Huh, I wonder what his problem is.’ And then the adrenaline rush of all time went through my body, because I realized I had fallen asleep during the piece I was supposed to be in.”

Once Cryer woke up, he confessed that his “muscle memory” kicked in thanks to all the rehearsals. He delivered his monologue and the show continued. Clarkson joked that Cryer should have felt “fresh” after the nap.

Although Cryer suffered no consequences for falling asleep, he teased that he was fired from the production for another reason.

From the very beginning, Two and a Half Men was a hit for CBS, drawing between 13 and 16 million viewers per season. Many have attributed the sitcom’s success to its long string of A-list guest stars, from Kathy Bates (who won an Emmy in 2012 for her role as the ghost of […]

‘Actually, I was Mathew Broderick‘s understudy for a long time… well, not that long, because they fired me,” he explained. “That was my first gig, I was 18 and I was terrified and Matthew is an amazing artist.”

Broderick, 61, also made his Broadway debut in the same show and originated the role that Cryer ultimately briefly portrayed. Broderick’s performance in Memoirs of Brighton Beach earned him his first Tony award and catapulted him to superstardom.

“They fired me right after he won the Tony,” Cryer admitted. “I think because they wanted someone who people had heard of on the show to take over for him, instead of me.”

Cryer wasn’t the only one who stepped in after Broderick left. Fisher Stevens, Doug McKeon, Robert Sean Leonard And Jonathan Silverman they all played Eugene at some point. Although Cryer was heartbroken about losing the job, he admitted it was a “formative experience.”

“And I did the most constructive thing: swear revenge,” he joked.

After his Broadway debut, Cryer became a movie star, eventually landing his own breakout role in the 1986 film. Beautiful in pink alongside Molly Ringwald.

ALISHA, 26

Single for five years.

DATING PAST?

I’ve pretty much always been single, aside from dating people briefly over the years. However, I am a hopeful romantic and dream of the right man coming along soon. . . I’ve waited a long time!

NERVES BEFORE DATE?

The idea of a blind date is strange, but it also gives freedom to not have expectations or preconceived ideas about what the other person will be like, like on dating apps.

Alisha, 26, is a team leader in the automotive industry. She has been single for five years and is looking for someone who is charming, funny, ambitious and a hard worker

FIRST IMPRESSION?

He was very loud – much more so than the other guests around us – and energetic. He’s clearly up for a laugh. He looks good too. I liked how well dressed he was in a nice beige top. We had a quick, friendly hug when I arrived.

EASY TO TALK TO?

He is not shy at all and the conversation flowed easily without any awkward silences. I liked it.

I was impressed to find out that he is a fan of musical theater, which I didn’t expect. We had a nice joke and an easy conversation. But he drank a lot of beer, both on the date and during the hour and a half we were on the same train home.

He’s handsome, but he drank and cursed too much

He completely failed to “read the room” in a fancy restaurant. It would have been good to see him a little less wild!

Embarrassing moments?

Every other word was a swear word and he kept making jokes with the waiters, which they didn’t seem to be used to. Cursing doesn’t bother me, but it was horrifying in that setting.

However, I wasn’t sure if it was just his personality, so I didn’t say anything in case I offended him.

DID SPARKS FLY?

It was a fun date with easy conversation and lots of laughter, but there was no spark in a romantic sense. It’s hard to explain why; we just didn’t click that way. It probably didn’t help that he fell asleep on my shoulder on the train home.

Alisha wasn't impressed by Ryan's swearing, but she enjoyed the date with free-flowing conversation and lots of laughter

DO YOU WANT TO MEET AGAIN?

Not in a romantic way, but he’s a real character and so much fun. That said, we exchanged contact information, but we haven’t messaged since, so I don’t think a meeting is on the cards.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?

He said complimentary things during the date, like that I looked beautiful and that we would meet again.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE TO KEEP HIM?

I think they would see that he is a friendly guy, but a little too outgoing for me.

BLIND DATE IMPORTANT STATISTICS

ALISHA

Single for five years.

CURRENT ROLE

Team leader in the automotive industry.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

Someone charming, funny and ambitious who is a hard worker. I like good morals and kindness.

RIAN

Single for five months.

CURRENT ROLE

Events and marketing manager in the music industry.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

A woman who is enthusiastic about life.

RIAN, 27

Single for five months.

DATING PAST?

I’ve had a few partners, but only three longer relationships. I recently broke up with my ex after three years and feel ready to meet someone new.

NERVES BEFORE DATE?

Not really. I was more excited than nervous.

Ryan, 27, is an events and marketing manager in the music industry. He has been single for five months and is looking for someone who is enthusiastic about life

Ryan, 27, is an events and marketing manager in the music industry. He has been single for five months and is looking for someone who is enthusiastic about life

FIRST IMPRESSION?

When she came in, I thought she looked pretty and naturally beautiful. She was warm and approachable, with a big smile. I’m charismatic and energetic and I hoped she would be too.

EASY TO TALK TO?

The conversation was lighthearted, but we had serious moments talking about what it was like growing up – what things used to be like before cell phones.

I entertained her with funny stories about growing up in the North. Amazingly, we both went to the same university in Northampton. I like to have a few beers when I’m out, so I was in a good mood. But she gave as good as she got in the banter department.

Falling asleep on her shoulder was quite embarrassing

Embarrassing moments?

Falling asleep with her on the way home was pretty embarrassing, but you have to laugh at these things.

DO SPARKS FLY?

I’m naturally flirty, but I bounce off the other person’s energy and when I didn’t feel Alisha flirting, I held back. We took the same train home and talked the whole way, except when I fell asleep. I walked her to her car and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

I later found her on Instagram and she followed me back, so it couldn’t have been a complete disaster.

DO YOU WANT TO MEET HER AGAIN?

Yes, but probably not in a romantic capacity, although I would be interested to see if there was any flirting on a second date.

I complimented her on her looks because she is easy on the eyes. I wasn’t too disappointed that she didn’t answer because we got along so well.

Although Ryan would like to meet Alisha again, he doesn't think it would be in a romantic capacity. That said, he would be curious if there was any flirting on a second date

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

Hopefully she thought I was a nice guy, outgoing and funny. I’ve been on dates where the conversation fell flat, but Alisha and I talked all night.

Would your family like her?

She would fit in 100 percent. We have the same interests. She has a book club and I like to read. She doesn’t drink much though and I like a beer!

Alisha’s rating: 7/10

LIKED IT? He is easy to talk to and good looking.

REGRET? No.

COFFEE OR taxi? Cab.

RYAN’S VERDICT: 8/10

LIKED IT? She is fascinating, open and pleasing to the eye.

REGRET? Not at all.

COFFEE OR taxi? Coffee.
