A Jetstar flight to Bali was forced to turn around and land in Melbourne after a ‘passenger from hell’ went on a tirade and even banged on the cockpit door.

The plane took off as scheduled at 10 a.m. on Monday, but as the woman’s behavior became increasingly erratic, the flight crew decided to abandon the planned route and landed in Melbourne at 3 p.m.

Footage shows a woman standing in the aisle of flight JQ43 and shouting at passengers and staff.

“A Jetstar flight from Melbourne to Bali returned to Melbourne today because a woman went crazy and banged on the cockpit door thinking someone had stolen her phone,” one passenger wrote on Facebook.

More to come.

An Australian woman is one of two tourists killed in Bali after heavy rain caused a landslide that swept away their villa.

The wooden villa in Jatiluwih village on the popular tourist island was hit by a landslide on Thursday morning after a downpour in the area the previous night, said I Nyoman Srinadha Giri, an official from the local disaster management agency.

The heavy rain eroded the water channels used for irrigation above the villa and caused the landslide, which killed the pair, the official said.

“The victims were evacuated from the rubble while they were sleeping (poses). There were two victims, a man and a woman in one bed,” he said.

The female victim, 47, was born in Australia and had permanent residency in the United States, while the nationality and identity of the male victim remained unknown.

The bodies of the victims were taken to a hospital in the provincial capital Denpasar.

Large parts of Indonesia are prone to flooding and landslides during the wet season, which starts around November.

Landslides in Indonesia have been exacerbated in some places by deforestation, with prolonged heavy rainfall causing flooding in some areas.

At least 27 people were killed in landslides and flooding caused by heavy rainfall on the island of Sumatra last week.

A single photo of a couple walking on the beach has sounded a desperate warning to Australians in Bali on the Indonesian holiday island’s biggest day.

Travelers have been warned that even the basics such as leaving your resort could get you into trouble on Bali’s ‘Day of Silence’, known locally as Nyepi.

It coincides with New Year’s Day on the Balinese Saka calendar, although the actual date varies and fell on March 11 this year.

It requires everyone on the island, including tourists, to stay home, limit noise and even turn off lights for 24 hours – or face fines.

Balinese people take the day seriously, with traditional local security men known as pecalang the only people allowed to patrol the streets, beaches and businesses, looking out for anyone breaking the rules.

But a screenshot shared to the Facebook group Bali Travel Forum yesterday showed two people simply walking on the beach, which is not normally allowed on Nyepi.

‘I just looked at the webcam I was monitoring and was surprised to see a couple walking on the beach. I didn’t think that was allowed today,” they wrote in the post.

A member of the Bali Travel Forum Facebook group yesterday shared this webcam screenshot of two people walking on the beach during Nyepi, which could attract a large fine

The post received a flood of responses from locals and tourists alike.

‘Officially not allowed. No respect,” one person wrote.

‘They should know. If they were staying in a hotel or Airbnb, they were definitely informed about what not to do on Nyepi Day,” another added.

WHEN IS NYEPI?

‘I’m pretty sure they’re well aware of it. Wouldn’t they wonder why they are the only two people running around in places where there would normally be crowds?’ said a third.

“Pecalang will catch them soon,” another added.

One even claimed that: ‘Two Last year people were deported for going to the beach.’

However, others sided with the two people on the beach.

“I would hate to have been your neighbor during the lockdowns,” said one.

“I mean no disrespect or disrespect to the culture, but this couple is outside in a serene setting, not using their phones or playing music,” another added.

“Maybe they didn’t realize they had to stay inside… and weren’t being deliberately disrespectful. Inform and educate instead of just judging.’

The Balinese have been adhering to Hindu tradition for hundreds of years. It represents a cleansing of the island in preparation for the coming year.

Other festivals take place in the days leading up to it, including the Melasti, which represents a new purification in which thousands of white-clad locals carry sacred objects from the temples to the sea to be purified.

On the night before Nyepi, the Ngrupuk takes place, where huge papier-mâché monsters made by locals are paraded through the streets before being burned to ashes to represent their defeat.

In the days leading up to the Balinese Day of Silence there are a number of other festivals including Melasti, where sacred objects from temples are cleansed into the ocean

The main restrictions on Nyepi are that no fires are allowed to be lit and the lights must be kept off or dimmed, no work is allowed, no travel is allowed and no traveling is allowed.

Businesses and schools will close that day and everyone on the island must stay in their home or accommodation.

The airport will also close and planes will be diverted to avoid causing excessive noise.

ATMs will go offline, and as long as the electricity remains on, internet access may be limited.

Loud talking and music are also discouraged as locals usually use the day to meditate, fast and enjoy the company of their families.

Anyone, including tourists, who leaves their home or accommodation on that day could be fined 1 million rupiah.

Nyepi lasts 24 hours, from 6am on Saka New Year to 6am the next day.

  • Two Aussies were stabbed by a group of men, a friend claims

Two Australians have been hospitalized after being repeatedly stabbed by a group of men in Bali, a friend of one of the victims has claimed.

Scarlett Carruthers, from Redcliffe, in Queensland’s Moreton Bay region, said her boyfriend Peter and girlfriend Izeah were viciously attacked outside a mini-mart in Kuta on their last night in the Indonesian country.

“It was our last night in Bali, so we decided to have something to eat and then get ready early in the evening for our flight home the next day, which didn’t go to plan,” she said.

‘My partner and his friend were ultimately stabbed more than 20 times to the face, neck, head, eyes, chest, both arms and ear.’

Peter almost lost his sight and now needs cosmetic surgery, while Izeah suffered so much blood loss that paramedics told him he would be dead if he didn’t get to hospital within 30 minutes.

Peter now faces a $50,000 hospital bill, while Izeah’s medical bills total $15,000.

Mrs Carruthers admitted they were ‘stupid’ and forgot to take out travel insurance with the hospital, saying they cannot complete the operation unless they pay in advance.

She has since had one GoFundMe to help cover medical costs.

“We then have to pay for accommodation and now book new flights home because we missed our original flights,” she said.

‘We know we should have taken out travel insurance, but unfortunately we were stupid and forgot that we didn’t expect something like this to happen.’

Just over $3,500 has been raised so far of a $30,000 goal.

Shocking photos of Peter and Izeah show how serious their injuries are.

One of the men was seen with his eyebrow cut open and his eye blackened and bruised as he lay covered in bandages in his hospital bed.

The other man had blood all over his face and a piece of skin had been cut from his chest.

Blonde beaches, infinity pools and bathtubs full of roses.

Enter the world of Ruan Griessel and Lee-Chazelle Oberholzer, who tied the knot on April 27 last year and have been traveling non-stop ever since.

The couple, from Pretoria, South Africa, sold everything they own to travel full-time and documented their journey through breathtaking photography online, gaining millions of views and 79,170 followers on TikTok, Instagram And YouTube.

With their permission, MailOnline Travel has handpicked 15 of their photos guaranteed to spark your wanderlust.

The reason they photograph their travels? They said: ‘It’s our way of experiencing it fully, while capturing these memories that we can look back on 50 years from now. It’s also a reminder of how far we’ve come.”

Ruan, 28, and Lee-Chazelle, 23, sold everything they own to travel together full-time and are now posting stunning photography online. Here they are pictured at the breathtaking Villa Cella Bella in Ubud, Bali

They go to great lengths to capture the perfect photo, using a combination of photography equipment including drones, the Sony A7iii camera, various lenses and GoPro models, and their trusty tripod, which they named Stan.

Sharing the highlights of traveling as a couple, they said: ‘We experience the most beautiful destinations in the world together, taste the most amazing food together and create unforgettable memories together that we will remember forever.

‘Traveling together has also brought us much closer together as a married couple, because everything around us is suddenly strange and new and the only familiarity we had was each other.’

Although not based in a ‘unique’ place, the couple spends most of their time in Bali between trips.

Some of their favorite places they have captured are the Maldives, Bali and the Philippines.

But the archipelago of the Maldives comes out on top.

They said, ‘There’s just something magical about the Maldives that we just can’t quite explain. The sea life, the people, the food, the turquoise waters and everything in between. Being in the Maldives brought us a sense of peace that we have never experienced anywhere else.”

One destination that surprised them is Gili Trawangan, one of the three Gili Islands off the coast of Lombok, an island in Indonesia.

The couple said: ‘We didn’t expect it to be so great. Gili Trawangan is by far the best place we have ever been to snorkel with sea turtles.’

While some may think their life is an endless honeymoon, the couple says a lot of work goes into creating their content.

In addition to their travel photography, Ruan works as an online fitness coach, and Lee-Chazelle earns passive income through her clothing rental business. They also create content for brands and hotels and sell online products such as travel guides.

They said: ‘On social media it may seem like we’re living life and just having fun, but the truth is there is so much planning and work that goes into the content we create. We have no days off, weekends or holidays, every day is a working day for us.’

They added: ‘For all the unforgettable highs, there have also been many lows. Missing flights, sleeping on cold airport floors, getting ripped off, getting into a bike accident, and the list goes on.”

But the secret to success, they claim, is communicating openly and prioritizing spending time together.

They added: “Don’t let your life partner become just a business partner.”

To spice up her look and show off her endless legs, Amber’s stunning outfit had a dangerously high side slit.

Also spotted on the star-studded evening was Chloe Meadows, who left little to the imagination as she went braless in a sexy lace number.

The blonde beauty, 32, turned heads as she stepped out in a light blue two-piece featuring a long-sleeved lace Bardot top and a floor-length skirt.

She flaunted her toned physique as she put her bare body on display wearing only a pair of white panties under the very revealing outfit.

Chloe accessorized her look with three simple necklaces, all of different lengths.

The brunette beauty teamed her ethereal look with a pair of gold heels.

Adding some color to the star-studded evening, Saffron Lempriere opted for a statement outfit as she stepped out in a hot pink bra and purple leopard print skirt.

The 31-year-old showed off her unique sense of style with a pair of gold sliders and large sunglasses.

Dani Imbert, 25, also showed off her ample cleavage as she stepped out in a racy black number.

The star wore a revealed leather bra with three thin straps holding the cups together, paired with a very sheer black swimsuit that wrapped around her neck and ended in a form-fitting skirt.

Leaving little to the imagination in her black knickers, Dani teamed her sexy look with a pair of gold sandals and an array of gold bracelets.

The outing comes after Ella and co-star Dan Edgar were spotted getting flirty at the resort earlier this week as it appeared they were on a holiday getaway.

An insider told The Sun: ‘Dan and Ella grew closer during their outing with their friends.

‘Ella has always had a thing for Dan and the cast felt there was chemistry between them.

‘On a night out with the rest of the cast, Dan and Ella kissed and have been spending time together ever since. The affair will cause major drama and arguments among the group.’

Dan was previously in a long-term relationship with co-star Amber Turner until the couple split in May last year.

The on-and-off couple appeared to be settling down after moving in together and buying their dog Oliver.

However, both have faced the fallout of cheating rumors.

Amber herself never admitted to any wrongdoing, but there were also rumors that Dan had become close to Ella while he was with Amber.

Prosecutors told relatives of the victims of the 2002 bombings in Bali, Indonesia, that the U.S. government had reached a plea deal with two Malaysian prisoners in an effort to untangle the legacy of torture from the eventual trial of the prisoner they accuse of masterminding to be of the All. Qaeda-linked attacks.

The two Malaysians gave secret testimony at the time of their conviction last month. Depending on what they said, their testimony could be used against the man accused of being the mastermind, an Indonesian prisoner known as Hambali, in an effort to avoid lengthy court battles over whether earlier evidence was obtained voluntarily .

The legacy of torture has complicated prosecutors' efforts to hold trials in the better-known cases of September 11 and the USS Cole bombing at Guantanamo.

Like the terrorism suspects in those cases, the Bali bombing suspects were held naked in dungeon-like conditions, deprived of sleep by painful shackles and subjected to a technique similar to waterboarding during their detention from 2003 to 2006 in CIA prisons. They were held in solitary confinement. It's all been fodder for lawyers trying to discredit evidence that prosecutors hope to use in war crimes trials.

The settlement was reached last month after two weeks of slow proceedings at Guantanamo Bay. Prosecutors brought family members from Europe and the United States to testify of their grief. A military jury subsequently sentenced the two defendants, Mohammed Farik Bin Amin and Mohammed Nazir Bin Lep, to an additional 23 years in prison.

But separately, the military judge, Col. Wesley A. Braun, announced a two-step sentence reduction and a recommendation for repatriation that could ultimately mean they return home this year.

The agreement surprised and angered some friends and family of the 202 people killed in the Oct. 12, 2002, attack.

Jan Iaczynski from Melbourne, Australia, was in a pub in Bali before the explosions, but lost five friends that night. He followed the events at Guantánamo through social media and transcripts sometimes posted by the Pentagon.

Mr. Iaczynski called the sentencing hearing “a sham trial” that offered less transparency than early trials of perpetrators in Southeast Asia, some of whom have long since been convicted and executed.

But families brought to the base as witnesses said prosecutors had prepared them for disappointment.

Matthew Arnold of Birmingham, England, said prosecutors said the plea deal was necessary “to pursue a viable prosecution against Hambali.” Mr Arnold's brother Timothy was killed in the bombing while visiting Bali for a rugby tournament.

He described the strategy as conveyed by the prosecutor as essentially using the Malaysians as 'sacrificial lambs for the bigger fish': Mr Hambali.

Col. George C. Kraehe, a lead prosecutor, “told us he was disappointed,” said Mary Panagoulas, whose 27-year-old brother, Dimitri, a Greek-Swedish citizen, was killed in Bali. But the prosecutor also advised that testimony from the Malaysians in the plea deal would “help the Hambali case.” Colonel Kraehe declined to comment.

Susanna Miller, whose brother Dan, a British citizen, was killed, said prosecutors told relatives “as a kindness” about the deals before a judge made them public. She described the agreement as necessary to “cleanse” the case of evidence obtained through torture.

The three men have been held by the United States since they were captured in Thailand in the summer of 2003. But the U.S. government has waited until 2021 to bring them to trial, and prosecutors have struggled to prepare evidence for trial.

A month after Mr. Hambali was captured, an American interrogator told him, according to a CIA cable, that he would “never go to court because 'we can never let the world know what I did to you.'”

Mr. Hambali's lawyer, James R. Hodes, declined to discuss what was done to his client but called the prosecutor's approach ridiculous. “Torture can never be erased,” Mr Hodes said. “The idea that an explanation could somehow clear evidence obtained through torture is contrary to our democratic foundations and the rule of law.”

Before the Malaysians gave evidence last month, the judge dismissed charges accusing them of conspiring with Mr Hambali in other deadly plots, making it unclear how their testimony could be useful.

In their guilty pleas, the Malaysians said they had no personal knowledge of any role Mr Hambali might have played in the Bali bombings. “I didn't know anything about the Bali bombing until it happened,” Mr Bin Amin told the jury. The prosecutors did not confront him about this.

Both men said they learned from news articles that Mr. Hambali, whose full name is Encep Nurjaman, was wanted as the suspected mastermind. They described their part in the conspiracy as a way to help him evade capture and move money that benefited other perpetrators.

The judge did not set a trial date as the government continues to prepare secret evidence for the court to review.

Prosecutors missed so many deadlines to share evidence with the court and defense teams that a judge did so late last year started issuing criminal credits against any possible conviction. It is not known how that credit would be applied to Mr. Hambali if he were sentenced to life in prison, the maximum sentence in his case.

For the families who testified, the focus is now on the Hambali trial. Prosecutors have said the case won't begin until next year.

Mrs. Miller plans to bring her mother from England to testify. Ms. Panagoulas wants her parents to travel to Guantanamo from their home in Athens.

She described complicated views on the government's use of torture. “Some families of victims were comforted to know they were being tortured, and not only our families were being tortured,” she said, describing the horrific death of her brother Dimitri.

The bombing burned at least 85 percent of his body. He was transported a thousand miles from Bali to Darwin, Australia, for care, but died two days after the attack.

Australian travelers are being warned to exercise great caution as near neighbor Indonesia, the world's third-largest democracy, goes to the polls next week in a high-stakes election.

Smart Traveller, the Australian government's advisory service, said on Monday there were likely to be “regular political rallies and possible protests” ahead of Election Day, when more than 200 million Indonesians will vote for their next president.

“Expect traffic delays and limited access to locations if protests occur. “Avoid protests and demonstrations and monitor local media for the latest updates,” the advice reads.

The elections, a three-way race between former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, former military general Prabowo Subianto and former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, will take place on Wednesday, February 14.

Noisy political rallies are a normal part of life in Indonesia, a country of about 270 million people, and tens of thousands of supporters can gather in stadiums to cheer on their favorite candidate.

The new warning adds to the overall risk assessment of 'exercise very cautious' for the country, which sees Bali, one of Australia's most popular travel destinations, as its main draw for tourists.

In addition to the elections, the government is advising Australian travelers to be aware of possible terror attacks and the country's many active volcanoes, which can erupt without warning.
