A WOMAN who dipped her toes into the murky waters of online dating was left bewildered after being described as a ‘mature woman’.

Still, decades removed from anything approaching geriatric status, she felt offended.

Speechless too, as she struggled to find the words when she read a strange conversation on Bumble.

Trish (@thelifeoftriciamay), who was 31, didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

The comment was even stranger because her potential suitor was only three years younger.

By anyone’s imagination, three decades plus one can hardly be described as old.

“I matched with this guy on Bumble. This man is 28. I am 31,” she said in her post.

Pinned to the screen was his surprising comment.

“I’m sure I’m into older, more mature women,” he said.

Trish sputtered at her after“Excuse me.”

“I’m only 31. You’re acting like that’s old-fashioned,” she said.

But the charm offensive was not over yet.

“I wouldn’t mind if someone rocked a bush for me,” he added.

His ‘bush’ comment would almost never win this lady’s heart.

“How on earth is it possible to rock in a bush fits into the conversation,” she asked, feeling bewildered on this stage.

Trish is a writer and on her TikTok she says she is “a practitioner of radical self-acceptance.”

This is just as true after this online encounter. But she managed to see the lighter side of things, and commentators were quick to show her she wasn’t alone.

“As soon as women reach their thirties, we embrace geriatric status and naturally go into the bushes exclusively,” one person joked.

“I think they think they’re complimenting you,” someone else suggested.

“Oh man, people are so stupid. As far as I’m concerned, that tells you everything you need to know,” was one viewer’s tired response.

“The dumbest conversations I’ve ever had in my life were on online dating sites. It’s exhausting,” was another’s desperate response.

As for the prospect of meeting in person these days, also known as “the old-fashioned way,” it has become as much of a myth and legend as paper for futuristic science fiction movies.

Modern dating experts suggest you can meet potential partners at the gym, but despite going five times a week, that's never going to happen for me – and it's all to do with genetics.

What does this mean?

Well, besides now sporting the rather uncomplimentary image of a knuckle-bearer, I have a terrible sense of direction and tend to sweat my brains out.

Meghan Markle stepped out in a glitzy black Valentino mini dress that cost more than £5,500 as she attended Katy Perry’s latest residency concert in Las Vegas, in a nod to the singer’s own bejeweled outfit.

The Sussexes were among thousands of fans packed into the Resorts World Theater in Las Vegas on Saturday evening as they enjoyed a child-free night out. They were joined in the VIP section by Celine Dion.

Meghan’s understated yet glamorous outfit included a $5,576 Valentino cap sleeve mini dress and a $585 pair of black Louboutin stilettos with a wrap-around strap at the front.

Meghan’s sparkling outfit was a tribute to one of Katy’s own outfits: a beautiful yellow and orange dress with cut-out details.

Prince Harry and Meghan were spotted taking a private plane to the gig, along with Cameron Diazher rocking husband Benji Madden and actress Zoë Saldana.

Ahead of the concert, the Camerons, Benji and Zoe, along with Marco Perego, David Katzenberg, Stellina Bickers and Bumble dating app founder Whitney Wolfe Herd were all spotted arriving at Santa Barbara airport to board the same plane as the Sussexes to Vegas to take.

The group boarded a G4 for a 40-minute flight to Las Vegas before flying home, landing back in California early Sunday morning at 1 a.m.

Harry and Meghan were photographed stepping off the plane, with Madden sitting next to Meghan.

The pair took a front-row seat to Katy’s Las Vegas show, where she wore numerous outfits, including a white gown with black and white thigh-high boots.

The Duke and Duchess are neighbors with Katy Perry and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, after the singer and her future husband purchased a stunning estate in the wealthy enclave of Montecito, California, in 2020 for $14.2 million.

The VIP seats for the Sussexes came despite the pop star’s previous critical comments about Meghan’s wedding dress in 2018.

One social media clip – shared by user @Le__Katerina on X, formerly known as Twitter – saw the mother-of-two swaying to the hit Roar as she clapped her hands to the rhythm and boogied along.

Meanwhile, next to her, Harry gently rocked himself back and forth to the beat.

Other shots from the night show a very excited Meghan grinning next to her more subdued husband. 

Fans of the royal couple remarked that the Prince doesn’t appear to ‘actually enjoy music concerts’.

‘He always looks bored,’ one poster said. ‘Megsie just drags him along.’

‘Meg loves concerts,’ another observed. ‘Harry however take it or leave it kinda prince!’ 

Some also expressed their fondness at the Duke’s attempts at following his wife’s dancing.

‘Ah – so sweet – poor Harry does his best bless him,’ one said.

A friend got tired of seeing me mope around after a breakup and in 2013 he secretly created a profile on Guardian Soulmates, where intellectual men listed their interests in Bob Dylan, red wine and Scandinavian philosophers I’d never heard of. had heard. Some nights I would “double up” on dates, meeting one guy at six for drinks and the other at eight for dinner. After all, it was a “numbers game,” as I preached in my new role as ambassador for the World Of Dating Apps: “You have to put in the hours, meet as many people as possible, and eventually you’ll meet one you like.” ‘

Simple, as the meerkat says. Only after a few years I realized that it wasn’t that easy. Because while most men were nice enough, that elusive thing called chemistry was rarely present.

The real attraction is a funny old beast. The person across a busy room may be a little cross-eyed, cross-eyed, nerdy, wildly arrogant, not your type – but somehow you’re drawn to them. A few years ago, a male friend complained about his single status and said he couldn’t worry about being an app administrator. ‘I do it!’ I said happily, creating a Tinder account in his name and nostalgically swiping the screen with my thumb (just like riding a bike). But – what was this? Almost every profile showed a woman of stunning beauty, a parade of Eastern European supermodels. “Yes, they are all fake profiles,” my friend said. Another friend tells me the levels of “ghosting” are epic: “We message for weeks, but they never actually want to meet.”

Of course, dating apps can lead to a happy life. I threw confetti at a few of them. But I can’t help but think that for many this is a treadmill that doesn’t take you any further.

Tinder’s user numbers have fallen, while Bumble shares have fallen. It seems we’re falling in love with dating apps. They promise an easy path to love, but who says these things should be easy?

Clumsiness, risk and rejection are all part of the game. The effort involved in flirting in real life may be greater, but the rewards usually are.
