Wordle fans say this is the 'worst January ever' as the popular puzzle is no longer available AGAIN
WORDLE has crashed for the fourth time in several days, with some users saying the outage has lasted even longer.
Fans have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express their woes, with one calling this month the “worst January ever” thanks to this recent losing streak.
The New York Time's daily word game requires players to guess what the day's five-letter word is within six turns before waiting until the next day for a new puzzle.
Players can earn streaks by completing the game every day.
Some streaks have even exceeded the 375-day 12-month mark – which the glitch puts in jeopardy if players can't guess today's word.
“I'm on a 499 streak and Wordle is down,” one player wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Another tweeted: “@nytimes #wordledown already 5th day in a row.
'Not the kind of winning streak I'm aiming for. What is happening?'
A third player commented: “Wordle has been offline for a few days for me… The site appears to be offline for some users.”
What is Wordle?
WORDLE quickly became famous on the internet, at the end of the pandemic.
It has since been played by millions of people around the world.
Wordle was created by software engineer and former Reddit contributor Josh Wardle and launched in October 2021.
Wordle challenges players to find a five-letter word in six guesses.
Since all players are solving the same puzzle, there is a way to compare yourself directly to other users.
Trying to guess a five-letter word without help would be quite difficult. Wordle helps are players with a color-coded system.
Once you have guessed a word, the letters of your guess will turn green, yellow or gray.
If the letter is green, that letter is in the word and is in the right place.
If it is yellow, that letter is in the word, but it is not in the right place.
If the letter is gray, the letter does not appear in the word of the day at all.
It's a creative way to guide players to the right word without giving it away.
Users can also enable hard mode, which forces players to use the hints they are given so they can't guess words at random.
The game is available to play online.
On January 31, 2022, the game maker sold his popular brainteaser to The New York Times for an undisclosed amount.
Both parties released the news on the date of the transaction.
