Sussan Ley has announced that she will run for the leadership of the liberal party and frankly admitted that the party had failed women during the election campaign.

In her first interview since the crushing election destruction of the coalition, Ley confirmed that she will run for Liberal Party Leadership when MPs meet in Canberra on Tuesday morning. If she is successful, she will be the very first female leader of the party.

Sunrise -Gastheer Nat Barr asked the former pilot and tax officer if she had the figures to defeat tipped leader Angus Taylor – who has joined Jacinta Nampijinpa price – and Ley said she was optimistic.

“We have a lot of talent … and I welcome nominations in that party room,” said Farer’s member.

Barr also confronted Ley, 63, about the poor performance of the party with female voters in the polls.

“You were the oldest woman there … Why didn’t you let any more women vote for this last election?”

Ley admitted that the coalition had done it wrong by no longer concentrating on policy that would benefit female voters that men surpass.

“We left Australia’s women,” she said.

Ley said it was ‘part of the conversations’ she had since Saturday and that she would ‘stay’.

‘We must understand why people did not support us, that they were not inspired by our policy offer and that they did not believe that we were the best choice to lead the country ahead.

‘It’s about having the conversations that I have described, it is about ensuring that I listen to my colleagues and to show them that we want a strong approach that includes everyone.

‘I want to use all the talent in my team, continue my leadership and meet the Australian people, because we clearly did not do that in the last elections.

“We have to reflect a modern liberal party.”

Barr asked Ley if she was aware of the term ‘The Glass Cliff’.

‘For everyone’s home, the term means that a woman gets a higher position where the failure risk is high. It is beautiful, probably, generally known that your party has a female problem.

“Is that what happens here? They put you in to clean up the mess? ‘

Ley answered and said: ‘I put my hand on, wet. I am determined and convinced that I am the right person to lead the party ahead at the moment, and I think my appointment would send a strong signal to the women of Australia.

“We can win the next elections. And this is a moment to look ahead and to take the Australian people on this trip. ‘

Ley is supported by Alex Hawke, who played an important role in Scott Morrison who secured the leadership of the party and served as Minister of Immigration among him.

This is a fracture story … there will be more
