The plans were drawn up in 1908 when two unnamed businessmen from America approached legendary Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi

At the time, wealthy people from all over the world were decorating the New York City skyline – and Gaudi was asked to build something unique.

The genius architect, whose Catalan modernist designs were unlike anything in America, sketched what could have changed New York’s skyline forever.

Gaudi’s design, which was ahead of its time, included a castle-like structure of multiple conical towers rising 1,150 feet into the air.

The hotel was planned as a downtown playhouse for Manhattan’s wealthy – with lavishly built rooms and multiple restaurants spread over six floors.

A large theater and lecture hall were also included in the blueprints, as well as several galleries that would have hosted the best art exhibitions in the world.

At the top, Gaudí placed a panoramic sphere where people could go and enjoy a 360-degree view of the city.

Sadly, the iconic plans for the hotel never saw the light of day and the sketches were forgotten for decades after Gaudi died in 1926.

Reports suggest the hotel would be built at Ground Zero – exactly where the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers once stood.

However, others say it was proposed for an unspecified location in Lower Manhattan.

But everyone thought the design was too unrealistic for the time, which would be one of the reasons why the building was never built.

Another story says that Gaudi, who was a communist, disagreed with the businessmen’s wishes to cater to the wealthy and left the project due to ethics.

Today, only a few conceptual sketches exist of the hotel that could have changed America.

In 2010, the building was virtually recreated in an episode of the science fiction TV show Fringe.

It comes after stunning plans for a A whopping $12 billion skyscraper casino resort was unveiled in New York City.

The mega-complex would stand 80 stories tall and could completely renew the city’s iconic skyline forever – but developers could face a major battle to get it built.

The ambitious project, called Wynn New York Cityis designed virtually next to real estate giants related companies and could sit on the west side of Manhattan.

Next to it will be two other high towers, occupying a huge area of 13 hectares.

The casino resort will be packed into the bottom five floors of the main skyscraper luxury hotels for guests completing the massive construction.

Elsewhere, a chic ballroom and spacious conference rooms will span multiple floors, as will hundreds of shops and restaurants.

The second tower will consist of a 1,400-meter office building.

Since the third gigantic building will house 1,500 apartments, the top floor of which is over 1,200 meters high, the plans claim.

It is believed there is also a public school capable of accommodating 750 students on site, in addition to a large community center and childcare center for young people.
