Chilling moment gunmen storm crowded Moscow concert hall before killing 40 people as IS claims responsibility for attack – The Sun
THIS is the chilling moment gunmen stormed a packed concert hall in Moscow before killing at least 40 people.
Shocking images show the beginning of Tonight’s terrifying massacre at Crocus Town Hall – which ISIS has now claimed responsibility.
Video shows the masked gunmen opening fire as they stroll through the concert hall’s reception area.
Gunfire rings out as thousands of people try to take cover in the venue – while blood-curdling screams can be heard in the distance.
There are dead bodies scattered on the floor.
It is believed that as many as five armed men dressed in camouflage stormed the iconic music venue, leaving 40 dead and 100 injured.
The attackers also used explosives, causing a massive fire in the concert hall on the western outskirts of Moscow.
The shooters remain at large. RussiaThe National Guard said it was on the scene and searching for the perpetrators.
In another video recorded in the venue, a man described the horror scene.
He said: “There’s shooting going on here. Someone’s shooting here.
“They shoot with a machine gun. They shoot into the crowd.
“Some people shoot. They set fire to the concert hall. We are on fire.”
Hundreds of people are reportedly trapped in the burning building, while the roof of part of the complex has collapsed.
Authorities managed to evacuate 100 people hiding in the basement, with some attackers reportedly barricading themselves inside.
Video shows huge plumes of black smoke rising above the building as some were evacuated from the building’s roof.
A second explosion was reported at the site, as panicked people fled the scene fearing armed men were holding several hostages.
The attackers reportedly emerged from the underground parking garage and entered the building.
It is estimated that there were over 6,000 people in the venue as all tickets were sold out.
The Russian special services arrived on the scene, but the fire brigade delayed tackling the fire until they arrived.
Extensive gunfire could be heard on multiple videos posted by Russian media and Telegram channels.
One showed two men with guns walking through the mall.
Another showed a man in the room saying the attackers had set it on fire, as gunshots rang out incessantly in the background.
Crocus City Hall opened in October 2009 and is located in the urban settlement of Krasnogorsk in the Krasnogorsky District.
The American and British embassies warned two weeks ago of such an attack on a busy location by “extremists”.
They had suggested it would be earlier, but warned foreigners to stay away from crowded locations.
Crocus City is about 14 miles (23 kilometers) northwest of the Kremlin, and people were there for a concert by the group Picnic, a Soviet-era rock band.
The US previously warned: “The embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans goal large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts, and US citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings.”
They had suggested that such an atrocity could happen in the US next one 48 hours, but nothing happened – until now.
People were told to avoid crowds, monitor local media for updates and be aware of their surroundings.
The British embassy followed with a similar warning.
Other public locations in Moscow and St. Petersburg were evacuated.
