WIZARD GENIUS: Harry Potter or Hermione Granger are always popular costume choices for World Book Day.

Raid your child’s wardrobe for a white shirt and black pants (Harry) or a black skirt (Hermione), then search the garden for a twig that you can use as a makeshift magic wand.

If you have pipe cleaners in your craft box, you can make Harry’s iconic glasses – and use a lip pencil or felt-tip pen to draw on his lightning bolt scar.

WHERE IS WALLY?: Dressing up as the elusive puzzle book favorite is easy, as long as you can find a red and white striped T-shirt. Ideally you already have one, but if not you can buy one from Sainsbury’s for £7.

WIMPY KID: Greg Heffley costumes are so simple. A white T-shirt and black shorts are all you need; maybe you can even use your child’s gym kit.

Mr. Men or little lady: Mr Bump is one of the quickest outfits to put together. Find a blue T-shirt and blue pants and wrap one bandage around your child’s waist and another around the head.
