A man is believed to have shot dead his aunt in front of his mother before turning the gun on himself in a suspected murder-suicide.

Martin fowler, 46, was found dead in a home on jambaroo street in albany creek, north of BrisbaneSunday at 5:30 PM.

His aunt, aged 77, was also found dead in the property.

Regional Brisbane Crime Detective Coordinator Acting Chief Inspector Craig Williams revealed on Monday that police had visited the house several times in the days leading up to the tragedy.

He said Fowler shot his aunt “several times” with a gun registered in his name.

It is clear that the family has lived in the house for more than twenty years.

“There had been an altercation, that was our initial information,” Supt Williams said.

“The investigation to date has revealed that the male subject was the son of the uninjured female present in the home.

‘At this stage of the investigation it appears that the male subject, who held a registered firearms licence, used a pistol registered to him to fire a number of shots killing the 77-year-old woman .

“He then used the firearm on himself and died at the scene.”

Fowler’s 88-year-old mother was treated at the scene for emotional distress and is now assisting police with their investigation.

“This is a tragic incident and we are helping the family as best we can,” Detective Williams said.

“Police had been to the scene a number of times and had been dealing with both parties over the past week.”

Det Supt Williams declined to comment on whether Fowler’s gun should have been forfeited after police were called to the house earlier this week.

Earlier, Queensland Police assured the public there was no ongoing threat to the community.

The house appeared to be boarded up and covered in what appeared to be aluminum foil.

A neighbor said there was “always someone at the front” and that he often heard verbal arguments.

“You’re always yelling at each other,” he said.

‘There is always and everywhere rubbish. ‘The air conditioning was always on and there was foil on the windows.’

Investigators are still calling on anyone with information to come forward.
