The 40-year-old then spun a malicious web of lies as she called 911, suggesting her 16-year-old was responsible.

Ellwood also tried to portray herself as a battered woman, but it later emerged that she had assaulted Ryan a number of times.

Jurors saw through her lies and convicted her of murder after a trial.

She was today jailed for life, with a minimum of 16 years, at Leeds Crown Court.

In a victim impact statement, Ryan’s daughter said: “This has ruined my whole life because I wasn’t able to get my dad to pick me up from school and tell me what we’re having for tea.

“I lost my movie friend who gave me the best hugs.”

The court heard the horror unfolded on August 29 last year after an evening at the Blind Pig pub in Wakefield.

Ellwood had six cocktails before heading home, where she was seen falling.

After an argument broke out in the kitchen, the killer took a knife and stabbed her husband.

She later claimed that she came home to find him injured on the floor.

During the trial, jurors heard that Ryan had “deteriorated to the… shell of a man” in the course of his wedding.

Ryan, who was described by friends as ‘kind-hearted’, had been attacked by Ellwood a number of times – including in a pub when he was taking a selfie with colleagues.

Prosecutor Craig Hassall KC said: “The complainant would not have been particularly concerned about telling you the details of the previous incident, but it clearly becomes relevant when she tries to portray herself as a battered woman.

“When she says she had no sense of self and he dominated her thoughts and physically. If she tries to show herself in that way, it becomes necessary to show the whole side of the story.’
