Author Liz Fraser reveals she has found love again after writing best-selling memoir of ‘broken life’ with an alcoholic ex – in which she had vicious arguments and lost £25,000

An author and presenter who wrote a best-selling book about how her ex-partner’s alcoholism destroyed her ‘beautiful family’ has revealed she has found love again.

Liz Fraser, who lives in London, documented her former partner’s addiction in her 2021 memoir Coming Clean: a True Story of Love, Addiction and Recovery.her life completely broken, leaving her with ‘severe PTSD’.

This week, Domestic Violence UK ambassador Fraser revealed she is ‘happy’ after falling in love again.

The broadcaster shared a moving image of two coats hanging next to each other in a hallway: ‘AAfter two years of being alone, solo parenting, and recovering from abuse… I am now in a great relationship.”

She added, “I like this person a lot. And I feel SAFE with him. I’m happy.’

In her memoirs, Fraser wrote how “at the height of his addiction, Mike was so saturated with alcohol and anxiety that he was barely able to think or function normally.”

She explained: ‘We had arguments whenever we saw each other and the arguments were sharp, vicious and worse every time; I was called ab***h, at**t, a saggy old gal and some of the words I don’t even know, but it’s fair to say they weren’t entirely complementary Fife-isms.

‘Objects were often thrown and kicked. I was told he hated me and ordered to get out of the way or he would hit me.

She estimated at the time that his addiction cost her around £25,000, including both the money she gave him and the financial costs she had to bear as a result of his drinking.

Fraser told her followers how she felt

At the height of her trauma, she shared a video online saying she was “so damn lonely” as she celebrated her daughter’s fourth birthday alone.

She told her followers at the time: ‘I know it’s so stupid to record yourself crying and then share it on social media, but I’m a bit alone here.

“It’s my daughter’s fourth birthday tomorrow and I think especially as mothers, sorry fathers, it’s the anniversary of giving birth, which is a huge thing and I haven’t had a chance to really recover from that.”

This week’s news left many of her fans delighted, with one saying: ‘That’s great news.

‘We all deserve a safe and loving relationship. After what you’ve been through now, it’s time to finally feel safe.’

Another added: ‘Safe is all. Happy for you. I hope things continue to go well.’

Fraser wrote on her Instagram feed after seeing the comments: ‘Steady she goes. But fortunately. I love you all’.
