Ben Cousins looks just as fit in his West Coast Eagles jersey as he did at the height of his AFL fame in new Dancing With The Stars preview after long battle with drug addiction

AFL great Ben Cousins looks fit and healthy as ever in a new trailer for the upcoming season of Channel Seven’s Dancing With The Stars.

The sporting legend, 45, is seen flexing his bulging biceps in his iconic West Coast Eagles jersey as he prepared to hit the dance floor.

The footage begins with Cousins lifting weights in the gym, before DWTS co-hosts Dr. Chris Brown and Sonia Kruger jump into the picture and help Ben count his set.

‘What the…?’ a confused Ben asks when he sees the hosts as they tell him, “We don’t actually have much time, just turn this on.”

They then present him with a stunning West Coast Eagles jersey adorned with shiny sequins.

The clip then cuts to footage from Ben’s AFL glory days with the Eagles, who he played for from 1996 to 2007, to show how strong and fit he was during his playing career.

Recent footage of Ben dancing up a storm during rehearsals is then played to show that the sporting great is still as fit as he is on the sports field.

“He’s won an AFL Premiership and a Brownlow. But can the football legend win the biggest prize of all?’ a voiceover asks.

Cousins, who has spent the last few years rebuilding his life after a fall from grace, announced earlier this year that he would appear on the competitive dancing show.

The footballer was first approached by Seven to appear on SAS Australia, which is known for signing up controversial public figures.

While Cousins declined, he agreed to Dancing With The Stars because he thought focusing on a new challenge would help him rebuild his life.

Meanwhile, the full cast for Dancing with the Stars 2024 has finally been confirmed, ahead of its premiere later this year.

In addition to Cousins, four-time Gold Logie winner Lisa McCune will do her best on the dance floor alongside much-loved MasterChef favorite Julie Goodwin and former AFL WAG Nadia Bartel.

They will join singer Samantha Jade, SAS Australia’s Ant Middleton, AFL legend Shane Crawford and Olympian and former senator Nova Peris.

This year’s entrants are joined by comedian Nikki Osborne, James Stewart from Home and Away, presenter Adam Dovile from Better Homes and Gardens and chef Hayden Quinn.

Ben won the Brownlow Medal in 2005 and captained the West Coast Eagles from 2001 to 2005, securing the club’s best and fairest awards for four of that season.

He played 238 games and scored 205 goals for the West Coast Eagles, winning a premiership with the club in 2006.

His public battle began in 2007 when rumors surfaced about his drug use amid incidents such as abandoning his car to avoid police and being found sleeping outside a casino.

Despite attempts at rehabilitation, including stays in expensive American rehabilitation centers, his struggle continued, culminating in multiple arrests and legal issues.

Ben continued to play professional football even after being banned from the AFL in 2007. He joined Richmond in 2009 but retired after two seasons.

His personal life also experienced turbulence, with strained relationships and legal troubles involving his former partner and children.

Ben has recently started rebuilding his life and now works at Channel 7 as a sports newsreader in Perth three times a week.

He has also joined a radio breakfast team in Perth on Mix94.5.
