By Paranormal activity Unpleasant Night swimming, Jason Blum‘s production company Blumhouse Productions has been involved in some of the most iconic horror films.
Blumhouse Productions was founded in 2000 with a focus on producing high-quality films on a micro budget. After a handful of releases, Blumhouse Productions found its first major blockbuster in 2007 with Paranormal activity. The film used a found-footage concept to follow a fictional couple haunted in their home by a supernatural presence.
Paranormal Activity was made for $15,000, but grossed almost $200 million worldwide after a theatrical release.
“The best production is acquisition, you know? We did Paranormal activity [which was] rounded. And then I saw that it was ready, bought it and dressed it up a little. You know, that’s the best. That’s the easiest,” Blum told Film Speak in 2020. “We did that Unfriended at. But we did that too The visitors. Those three films – we actually acquired them rather than produced them.
Blum noted that his priority was investing in people he believed in, adding, “The last thing I think we’re doing is we’re really helping to leverage the Blumhouse brand to amplify shows and films that would normally be about be overlooked. And that is a very, very large part of what we do as a company now.”
Blumhouse Productions has since produced nearly 200 films. The company has also expanded to include TV shows, short films, documentaries, books, comics and podcasts.
