My pre-1982 trick only costs a few cents and will keep your flowers fresh longer
A FAN of floral arrangements has revealed her secret to keeping her flowers fresh and vibrant.
She said looking before 1982 will yield optimal results with any bouquet.

Amy (@amycurated) filmed herself demonstrating the advice in a video on TikTok.
With Baby's Breath she zoomed the camera in on a bouquet of red roses.
At the bottom of the vase there appeared to be pennies filled with water.
“PSA for the girls,” read the text. “Keep your flowers fresh longer by putting pennies in the water.”
She also advised being choosy with the money used for the hack.
“Use a penny from before 1982,” she added. “It's predominantly copper.”
Amy could certainly explain why the copper majority made the difference in the longevity of the roses.
“Copper is a fungicide, which naturally kills the bacteria that cause flowers to wilt,” she said.
“Pro tip: Use a pre-1982 penny for best effect,” she added.
According to the American currencyInitially, pennies were manufactured as pure copper, but rising demand for copper during World War II led to changes in the composition.
Several elements, such as zinc and tin, were later added to American copper coins to reduce the cost of raw materials.
In 1982, the average American penny contained only 2.5% copper.
According to a studycopper-based fungicides are used to maintain vineyards, keeping the plants in top shape.
The video attracted many viewers who shared their thoughts in the comments section.
“I'm not going to immediately put pennies into my Valentine's Day flowers,” one person wrote.
“My aunt has a flower shop and she told me how she keeps the flowers fresh for weeks by adding filtered water and a teaspoon of bleach,” another added.
“If not, then filtered water and at least a penny or two.”
“I got the pennies,” a third commented. “I just need the flowers now.”
